Felicitas Vargas, better known as Doña Fela, is the boss behind Antojitos Doña Fela, a Peruvian food truck serving “little cravings” that she runs with her daughters and granddaughter in Queens, New York City. After noticing there was an absence of Peruvian-style street food among the food carts in the city, Doña Fela made it her mission to bring the flavors of her homeland to the streets of New York. Doña Fela is the matriarch of her family and faced impossibly difficult challenges growing up, but has provided everything, including a strong work ethic, to her children.

As an european, this is how i prefer to see the USA, a nation of immigrants all bringing their values, traditions and :) recepies to the table, living together hopefully peacefully and in such doing so making the place they live in ... great.

The US is a nation of immigrants, it is only the fools who forget the English were not native! It pains me when people talk of borders and not letting people try to make a better life for themselves. Without the immigrants of the 19th. century nothing would have been built in this country. And don't get me started about how the forefathers treated the Native Americans. These hard working ladies are amazing and succsessful!! Bravo.

This is the United States man. There’s maybe 10% of the population who has a close minded mentality and unfortunately that’s what is shown in the mass media.

@kinngrimm 3 жыл бұрын
@@96cespinoza thats statisticly correct so to speak, i can't remember the name of the study but one of its conclusions was that roughly 10% of *any* population is as you put it 'closeminded*. Where it matters though, most of the time the other 90% are picking up the slack and the pieces when everything goes right. Question is, does everything go right? Population pressure, ressource shortages, product shortages(chips not the kind you eat ^^), job loss, no healthcare, cost for education, climate change and on and on are all things which put stress onto a society and when nothing really gets done due to partisan politics or *closemindedness* then loudmouth showboating demagogues like Trump suddenly have a chance to rise and in their shadow the extremists 10% florish. I know that most of the people in the USA like everywhere else just want to live their lives in piece and most of them are good people. The problem is when the 10% get too much attention and become a deciding factor. Add to that the bubbles where meanwhile we mostly all live in which gives different sets of information(not allways facts ^^) to different people and ofcause there will be problems. One thing which may help to counter this is trying to imagine that the concept of *we* needs to be broadened, it is not only *we* the white or black or ... people, it is not only the we all from my hometown or all the we from a state or the states, but all of humans which need to be concidered depending on what one is talking about or doing. Counterproductive to that in my opinion is the *philosophy of american exceptionalism* which is partly tought in US elite universities which implements the mindset that as you are an american you are pretty much allowed to do anything anywhere to anyone(simplified and broken down). It belongs to the mindset of supremacists and yet is taught to those who later on become politicians. If one seees nothing wrong with that, why even bother to ask why other nations may have a problem with the USA ^^. Sure in geopolitics morals often become secondary, but maybe that is one of the problems to act morally while not acting superior, arrogant or condacending. Anyways just some thoughts which pop up on the topic of close-mindedness. I wish you a good day :)

Not sure why you're saying this as if the US is the only country with immigrants. Tonnes of other countries have a lot of immigrants including in Europe where you can find a similar diversity if not more lignuistically and culturally. US doesn't even have a monopoly on saturation of immigrants -- you find that in the middle east (UAE) which far exceeds any percentage that you can find in the US. It's present in droves of areas on every continent all around the world and it's nothing special to make note of "a nation of immigrants". Also not sure why people act like immigrants are some virtue, particularly in a nation like the US that has a history of being xenophobic, racist, sexist, and stifling freedoms (including religious freedoms) from its inception and never really managed to do any of those right for the majority of its history despite the opposite being advertised. Calling a nation 'a nation of immigrants' doesn't mean much when its police are committing genocide and put refugees in war-esque camps and separate families in 2021. I don't really understand the itch some people have to make flag-waving comments and to start unnecessary political dialogues. Was it not enough to just say the video was nice to watch and move on? I guess it was for some people.

@@ericktellez7632 I am Mexican-Peruvian (Mother is from Lima, Father is from Mexico), the key difference is really consistency, flavors, and fillings between Peruvian and Mexican tamales. Mexican tamales are usually seen as more of a snack, with all kinds of fillings and a lot more rougher than Peruvian tamales/

Doña Fela's food is incredible. She also makes amazing turron de Doña Pepa, it is so soft - it sells out quickly. I think her business is only open on the weekends. 90th street and, Roosevelt Ave, Jackson Heights.

They’re an awesome, hard working family. And the fact that they had Black Lives Matter and Stop Asian Hate signs was awesome too. 🇵🇪👏🏼 -From a Mexican lady raised in the US Un orgullo a los Hispanos. 👏🏼

How haven't foods like this gone mainstream in America?? Wow, what a wonderful family & womens! I wish I could buy from people like this everyday, Peruvians, but represent America better than any so called "Patriot".

Sra Fela y familia congratulations on your success. I have had the pleasure and privilege of eating your delicious tamales, chicharrón, empanadas and alfajores so many times. First time a friend brought over some tamales and we asked him where he got them, he told us and on a saturaday we found her food cart down on Roosevelt Av and got a nice plate of chicharrón. Ever since, whenever we have a chance we stop by and get something deliciuos. The customer service is the best.Highly recommend it! Thank you 😊
