Today's rescue is of a hamster found on Offerup, who was being rehomed after the owners decided not to pursue raising him further after just a short time of owning him. Due to not knowing better, the owner looks to have gone with what the petstore recommended to the family. Not everyone understand what they see is incorrect care, but this family knew something was up.
Shoutout to my incredible team of volunteers and helpers. I couldn't have done this without you guys. ❤️

Update to Little foot: Due to this being an older video, Little Foot is no longer with us. He had an underlying URI that showed no symptoms. He passed away back in May, little under 4 months since we took him in. We opted for a necropsy by our vets and they discovered fluid in his lungs. He wasn't growing in size either but had maintained his weight. He only got a few inquiries at the rescue, but unfortunately no one adopted him. We will miss little foot. He was a gentle soul.

We got our daughter a hamster a couple years ago. I really appreciate what you do. Because I started watching your content right after we got him, I was horrified by the size of the cage he was in. I immediately got the prevue 520 cage off amazon and a giant wheel and tons of enrichment toys and he immediately seemed happier. He ended up dying of old age just before our 2 year mark with him. So thanks for making it so our little guy could have a good life!

@@greenbeantm1096 I know what you mean, I haven't had a hamster since I was a kid but I feel such immense guilt over how they lived... my parents didn't know better and I was really young but it still hurts. If there was one thing I could do over in life it would be the care of my childhood pets, hands down.

Our little Noodle used to be nippy when we first got her but with patience and stability, she is now the sweetest, gentlest and explorative hammy. She now gets so excited when she hears our voice and is so quick to come out for playtime and strokes. She has even started falling asleep on my belly after free roam time.

I can’t stand people who get hamsters and then abandon them when they bite. I have a hamster and she’s bit me. Multiple times, drawn a lot of blood. And every time she has, it was my fault. I tried to handle her too quickly (following pet store advice), I didn’t wash my hands once and she thought I was food, I tried to clean her cage and she bit me when I spooked her. Hamsters aren’t naturally aggressive and they can be lovely if you keep trying to bond with them. I feel so bad for them.

Such a sweet looking boy, love the name Little Foot, Land Before Time was one of my favorite movies growing up. ❤ I've shared hamster ads on Facebook if I see something really bad. I remember when I shared an ad where there was 5 around year old syrians living together! Apparently 1 male and 4 females and they "don't breed". They said that the hamsters get along fine, but fight sometimes. 🤦‍♀️ I shared it in my country's rodent FB group, because they were 5-6 hours away from me and even if they were closer, I didn't have space for 5 syrians. I shared it so more people would see it and hoped that they would get rescued faster. I actually got sh*t from some of the group members, saying things like, "oh, it could be worse" and "there are people who don't have homes and you worry about hamsters", someone even asked if I had seen wild syrians. I don't know what happened to those hamsters sadly, but I hope that they all got new homes that knew about proper hamster care. A bit much to hope for though. My own current hamster actually came to me thanks to someone sharing an ad where a little dwarf was living in a small carrier. 3 days later the little lady came to me thanks to an amazing person who was coming my way from where the hamster was (4 hours from me) and little Donna was home. She went to live in a 100cmx50cm enclosure and this July I upgraded her to a 120cmx80cm enclosure. Living her best life now. ❤

Well....sad story. I was right about him looking sickly. He unfortunately didn't make it past a year old and died of an underlying URI. There was no signs, no symptoms of sniffles or lethargic. He ate and peed just fine. Active till the end. He just suddenly passed without warning one night and we opted to preform a necropsy the next morning by our vets and the vets concluded there was I think, fluid in his lungs. So, he was with us for only a little under 4 months. :(

I live in Covington Kentucky , like right on the border of ky & Ohio. Recently I went into a petco near me to purchase my ferrets food.. & like I always do, even tho I don’t buy animals from there, I walked down the pet isles looking at what they had… & to my surprise they had a roborovski dwarf hamster, in the tank with two, campbells/Russian dwarf hamsters.. in the tiny Russian hamster tank. The robo was desperately scratching at the walls trying to get out. What caught my attention was he was fighting with one of them when I first walked up. So ofc I took a video n went to the front & told the OWNER of the store, they had a robo hamster in the wrong tank, they’re two different species of hamster & will fight n kill each other… he said “no it’s a Russian dwarf it’s just a baby” so I looked them both up on Google n showed pics, I said no those are two different species of hamster, are you able to separate him? He is going to die in there… once again he goes “no he’s just younger than them he’s a baby he’s okay”. Shiz broke my heart, but I didn’t even have the money to buy him to help him let alone all the proper stuff he needs. So I had to leave him 💔 it was terrible. & they’ll never have my business again. It was the only place that sells intune ferret food around here, so I’ve switched. Like I literally showed him. He seen with his own two eyeballs. I really hate people.

I rescued a hamster off gumtree myself but never dreamed of palming her onto a rescue. Sadly she only lived 4 months after rescue. She passed during an ultrasound scan. Vet thinks she had heart problems. Couldn't afford a necropsy though as they charge £500 for those here!
@MunchiesPlace
@MunchiesPlace Жыл бұрын
It surprises me how much other vets charge for services thatre cheap here. Like a necropsy for a hamster for us, if they haven't been seen prior by our vets, is around 50 us dollars. Otherwise they're free if the animal had previously been seen by the vet and died suddenly. O.o
@mojothebudgies2901
@mojothebudgies2901 Жыл бұрын
@@MunchiesPlace Wow! That is awesome though that it so cheap as it is good to be able to find out cause of death. To be fair one of my vets does offer free necropsy but only on dogs and cats as they have a deal with the local university. They promised me free when my bird died suddenly at their practice then came back to me and said they don't do exotics and that exotics are £500. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I've had quite a few deaths in my life as I adopt rodents and it would have financially broke me to necropsy them all. 😭

That was my dwarf first cage I felt so bad after finding out it was not a suitable cage a few weeks later I upgrade to a 20 gal like a month after, yes still not big enough. the beginning and talking about rescuing animals reminded me of a few months ago when my sister found a fat that had been dumped and left to rot in a cage outside their apartment complex. I went and picked up the cat. The cage it was left in was caked in feces and urine and I took the little cat home to try and clean him up when I noticed he was skin and bones... he was a full grown cat and only weighed 4lbs. I rushed him to the emergency vet after calling and letting them know the situation. Luckily I had just gotten income tax and could afford the expensive vet bills and his hospitalization but he ended up being euthanized. His body wouldn't absorb the fluids and his skin kept busting open when they scuffed him and tried to give him fluids. It was horrible. But I don't regret trying to help. I could afford it at the time and I wanted to help that poor kitty.

The Power of 5 food and the tiny bag of litter came with the cage as part of a "hamster starter kit". I know because I have the same kit. I bought it to use as a travel cage for my pet rats. Makes a great travel cage but definitely too small to be anybody's full time home.

I really wish pet shops made wooden toys more common. Rodents chew a lot. I hear sometimes rodents bite people due to their teeth being overgrown. I own mice and I like to give them multiple options for things to chew on. Plus it’s cheap. My mice love old scrap wood and cardboard especially to make their nests.

I rescue dogs independently and will either keep them until they find a home or they stay with me unless they can’t be placed in a home. It is very frustrating because I’ve had people come to me saying they took in a dog or cat and they need me to take it in and I only have the funds for what I personally take in. By the time you spay neuter and the cost of updating vaccines I’m easily closer to 250 but I never even ask that much per dog. I also will take a dog back if absolutely needed. Love your work and videos! 😄💕

Bedding can be expensive sometimes. The price for the birch wood bedding I used increased so I remembered Erin here on YT put the cheaper kitchen tissue in a shredder and had wonderful bedding for her animal. As for Little Foot, he seems to be part polywhite (makes the body very white)and golden or dominant spot golden. Polywhite is a kinda "aggressive" colour if you breed it down the line. I rather call it golf ball gene, 'cause it makes the hamsters look like one. 🐹
