The guy who did the work was so impressed with the quality of the parts, the completeness of the rebuild kit and the features offered by the midplate that he wants to start buying them for his customers and his drag racing builds. I called you and you told me I needed to adjust the clutch linkage on my 60 Vette. I thought you were wrong but I thought it would be worth a try. While adjusting the linkage it broke. Great. So naturally I blamed you. A coupla hours later it’s all together and with 1/4 inch extra adjustment it works better than ever. Nice considering I've had this beast since 1972. About time it shifts right. Thanks for your help, your expertise, and your time. A generous check is in the mail. Okay I was lying about that last thing. Max.

Great video! I had a Muncie M22 "Rock Crusher" in my '71 Z-28 Camaro back in the day. Oh, that sweet "whine" of those spinning gears. Just a bit of trivia. Actually, the term "whine" is a misnomer. It is more of a "ring" or "ping" of the 20 degree helical cut nickel alloy gears clashing against each other at thousands of times a second. This creates a continuous harmonic that sounds like a steady whine. This is also how that "Whine" from timing gear-drive sets is generated. The problem with loud gear-drive though, in modern cars anyway, is that the knock sensor interprets that whine as a ping or knock and the computer retards the ignition timing to save the engine. The M22 gears are stronger, but louder, than the other similar Muncie 4-speed transmissions, and great if you have a lot of horsepower and torque spinning that transmission. 👍

This is one of the most comprehensive videos I've ever seen. Clarified a lot of issues. A professional rebuild my transmission and buggered up the shifter install which caused it to be stuck in first or reverse, I ended up launching my Camaro in reverse into a bench that did significant body damage. I sent him a photo of the misaligned shifter, untightened linkage bolts, missing mount bolt, and he's pretty much gonna end up paying for this.

I traded a guy installation of a TH350 for a M20 in his Model T hot rod a couple decades ago. The plan was to upgrade my 79 ElCamino Saginaw with it. Put his car up on the hoist, did the entire swap. Didn’t even notice until months later, when I pulled out from under the bench. It was a M22. Score!

I installed in a 55 chevy truck with a 283 engine and a 1972 posi traction chevy rear end. I believe it was a 3.21 gear ratio. If I had a car or truck project I would still put a 4 speed Muncie. I completely agree. I had trouble out of my Honda TRX450R transmission the forks kept going out and 2nd gear along with it so I had to argue with the builder that I wanted everything down to the smallest bearings replaced and I had new gears sent to be micro polished and cryogenic treated the shift drum and forks coated with a anti friction coating and the results a transmission that usually needs replacing after 1 season lasted 3
