I bought this 2 years ago in Amazon...it's such a fantastic handmade pastels for its price...it's not as soft as other handmade pastels like unison, great American or Terry Ludwig..but it's true value for money!!!

Just bought these and I really like them. I got them primarily to go with my Unison handmade pastels for blocking in large areas, to save money. I find myself using them more and more for everyday work. The pigments are good.

I am so impressed that even after the amount of time passed this is a relevant video! Prices have changed a bit but after 3 years this is going to happen! and Mungyo is still a bargain! I guess this just shows how good you are! Nicely done Lindsay! Thanks for keeping this online and available so we can point to a knowledgeable source for recommendations!

Hello Lindsay, thank you for excellent content every single video! Do you have a n opinion on the Mungyo soft artist pastels in the bright yellow box?
@thefrugalcrafter Жыл бұрын
I am not sure what grade comes in which box. Mungyo does a great job tho and many companies have mungyo make their stuff.
@cyncity554 ай бұрын
These are not “cheap” just cheaper, but for what your paying and getting, it’s really not. They do not tell you their lightfastness for a reason Mungyo are garbage Just get a half stick set from Sennilier or Rembrandt’s…. at least your painting won’t fade

I have had my eye on these pastels for a while, thank you for the thorough review! I already have some of the Sennelier pastels and love them, and I did not realize Schmincke made pastels as well! Have you ever tried the Koh I Noor extra soft pastels? They are one of my favorites and are pretty reasonably priced.

Hullo I purchased all of the 72 colors of the Koh-I-Noor line, they are a wonderful medium soft pastel! I invested in Schmincke 400 set and I LOVE them too! I did wait for them to go on sale and got them for under $900.00 Last year! Iknow Terry Ludwig makes some of the best sticks made, but they are very pricey! good luck! I wonder what you have done?

You got a great deal on these, even the cheapest place I can find in my country makes my wallet cry. I can't really deal with the dust so got into oil pastels more.

Mark it on the calendar, Ha! Where dust is an issue looks like a great choice. Better than sweating behind a mask and fogging up the spectacles. 😁💙 thanks Lindsay.

This set is on Amazon in Canada 🇨🇦 for $75. Not available in many other places that I can see. Schminke and Sennilier sets are even more expensive. Dust is a big factor for me, so these would be great. Just not as frugal in the great white north. 💙 Love the garlic 🧄.

I'd use chalks by pebbles. They come with pompom applicators that would work well for that and they are not very expensive.

Serious question, I thought pastels were smooth creamy texture so why do I see dust and hear scratching? The site doesn’t state they are chalk pastels. In 2024 the price in CAD is insane so I just want to make sure they are not chalk pastels. I just started researching and would like to buy a good set. No palette has enough or great greens but this brand seems to be the cheapest. If you have any words they would be greatly appreciated.

Soft pastels are the chalky kind, oil pastels are the creamy kind.

great review! I'm glad you take price into account when reviewing, and the fact that it will be a different price depending on where you live in the world and where you buy it from - it's great that you include that perspective in your reviews, more reviewers should!

I bought a few and inspected them closely, to be honest they don't look like hand made at all. There are some small residual area of shinny smooth crust left over on the surface, it seems they were extruded and then the out layer crust was grinded off unevenly to mimik handmade pastels. Also they are a little too hard to be handmade as well. Have you noticed that?
@thefrugalcrafter3 жыл бұрын
I'll trust your judgement as I only have machine made ones. Schminke is my favorite:)
@yolandacui25713 жыл бұрын
@@thefrugalcrafter they are still nice, just makes me question their lightfastness claims as well. Schimincke is my favorite too. And their watercolors. ❤️

Thanks for this! Extremely helpful plus points for the amazon link too. I'm into experimenting with different mediums at the moment and I realised that it makes a huge difference when you're using decent quality products. It's so difficult to find these handmade ones with an acceptable price where I'm from so when I saw the price in your link I got them straightaway. With the price range they're on here, I would definitely just go for the Schminke. They're crazy expensive but if I find that I really like to work with this medium, I would just invest on the more expensive Schminke ones later on, like MUCH later on. 🙈🙈🙈

Thanks for the review. I have purchased a few open stock from Jerry's (benefit to living 40 min away) and I like them. I had a weak moment a month ago and bought the 90 ct set of their factory-made pastels and they're just ok. I wish I had gotten either the handmade Mungyo soft pastels or Sennelier. I have some open stock sennelier as well as the portrait colors 40 ct set you recommended a couple months ago. I love them. My next purchase will probably be the Sennelier plein air 80 ct set. I find the 90 ct regular Mungyo pastels to be lacking in blues and purples.
