On this video, which was filmed in the Dorfkirche Reinickendorf Berlin, Alexey Kochetkov and George Kandalaft play the famous Munir Bashir's composition 'Flying bird'. "Here we associate flying bird with a peace dove" says George.

I appreciate the endeavor and the message it intends to send. But I must share the full resonance of emotions awakened. The setting of this coming-together, a German church, rings painfully hollow. Dissonant. Because, even with the many thousands of Jews who have returned to Germany, that country remains a place haunted by recent history. Where Germans, in the name of the German people, sought to destroy my people - and wiped out unfathomable human kindness, depth and creativity (not the least of which, musical). Rectification cannot be achieved through active gestures of "moving on", "coming together", etc. To event suggest the possibility of a rectification is beyond callous. We need music in the world, certainly of Jews and Arabs. But not from German churches. There are places and times for music; and places and times for silence.
