@russellfisher1303 The armor ends up being maybe an inch too long in the chest to do the deep squat without lifting off the shoulders, but all-in-all a decent off-the-shelf fit. #armor #renaissance #hema #shorts

A lot of the issue is people assume that the only historical style of breastplate was the Globose shape. In reality the later Peascod (depicted here) reached further down the centerline of the body however it tapered at the waist and hips allowing fluid motion.

@LabTech414 ай бұрын
I've seen people doing videos where they're sprinting for pretty decent lengths in full plate armor; dispelling not only the belief that mobility sucked, but that they were too heavy to run in. When you think about it, the speed and mobility make perfect sense, because more often than not the faster and more agile fighter wins; if the armor is a detriment to that, you just end up with a dead tin can.

Could you try turning your torso after sitting down? I always wondered how well someone in full armor on horseback could fight someone next to them. Or even slightly behind. Because you would need to turn only your upper body. And I don't know how well this can be done with a cuirass on. I even remember Matt Easton saying that the french cuirassiers found their armor restricting, which is why they avoided prolonged melee with british cavalry. However I couldn't find that quote as the video was mostly about the types of cavalry sabers the British and the French used.
@jungoder10853 ай бұрын
It depends a bit on style but usually with 14-17th c breastplates you could turn because the breastplate is usually sat just above that part of the abdomen that lets you turn or it’s segmented like a breastplate and plackart so you get that extra flex anyway Though like I said varies on style and certain styles will have less give some more The English in the 15th century are an example of wanting complete torso mobility in full plate With full ability to turn like you said and complete chest compression/ expansion This was actually because they fought on foot more often than not so wanted to make the most out of pollaxes and spears This is why English faulds(plate skirts) aren’t attached to the plackart or breastplate but they all overlap each other giving loads of extra mobility With 18-19th century cuirasses they were quite inflexible compared to earlier armours They didn’t have as deep cut armpit areas which limited arm movement across the body and in the air They also covered quite low on the torso causing the issues you stated and made it more awkward to bend in general compared to this guys getup or an earlier plate armour
