This is probably a noob tip but for whoever is having an absurd render time from using the "time displacement" effect, do the following: 1. render from the "render queue" in AE 2. change the export file type to "prores 422" what NOT to do: - exporting from media encoder. doing that ish would have taken me 3 years to export a 20 sec clip.

I was in the crew of Mura Masa's music video. For the rotation slit scan effect the "secret" is to rotate on the same vertical axis. We used an office chair (out of the frame) and the challenge for talents was to dance staying on the same axis despite the rotation at their centre of the gravity (they sat with legs on the seat under their butt)

would you recommend masking the subject if you don't want all that warping in the background and sides, like if you only want the person to be slit scanned and everything else is normal... I'm guessing it would be tedious though lol

yes thats what I did in my example I added a mask around the door frame. Its not too bad depending on how in depth you want to go with it

Hahahha Come on guys! You didn't listen to the tutorial... that's the magic of Slit scan technique. Since it's time displacement (applying a delay), it only affects what changes over time (movement), the parts which are static like the background, just don't look displaced, bc there's nothing to display, they don't move.
