The three men on the flat car can be seen at 4:26. The Man on the left appears to be my grandfather Thomas Quayle who worked for the CPR when he came to Canada from the Isle of Man after the first war. Thomas was a Manx man but his nickname in Canada was "Irish"! He liked to sing. After seeing this documentary I'm happy to think he may have worked with Murachadh Mac Pharlain Bàrd Mhealboist. Gura mie ayd son yn claare feer vie.

Thanks for posting this, I remember watching it in its entirity in the Lanntair many years ago! A fantastic, moving film about one of the many talented writers/politicians and thinkers Lewis has produced. Any idea where I can get a hold of the entire film?

Hello there: In this video there is a picture of 3 men on a flat car (4:47) We are pretty sure this is a picture of my wife's grandfather - Thomas Quale or Thomas Arthur Quale from Onchan, Isle of Man. The back stories about Murdo MacFarlane and Thomas Quale in this time period are very similar and the face on the guy on the left looks just like Thomas. We would like to know more. Where did this still photo come from?
