I'm always amazed that you can articulate so well what you are doing and why you are doing it while you are painting. That is incredibly hard! It really helps me to understand the "why" you do things. Your videos make me feel empowered to paint and to enjoy the process. Thank you for your generosity.

Joe, I don't know how to thank you except to say that you have become my teacher and inspiration. At age 85, I've begun to paint, so far slowly but surely and I'm impressed by your remarkable skills.

I really appreciate that you jump right into it, and don't waste time....that's very refreshing. And even though I do watercolor, I'm still learning so much, it's fantastic to have the why explained, you blinded us with science, in a good way. You are very good at explaining clearly, and keeping it interesting. Why am I just hearing these things? We're all glad you are letting this knowledge out.

Massive thanks for all your time and effort Joe .

Joe, I just found you and you are now my higher power when it comes to painting. I have scanned KZbin for teachers to help me on technique. I struggle with finding my own "voice" when it comes to painting - really want to get away from copying someone else's ideas, not trusting my own for some stupid reason - like who cares! I've only seen Vid 1 in this series of painting a landscape from beginning to end but learned so much just hearing you describe what you were thinking and watching you paint your creative process onto the canvas. The freedom I am starting to feel is...well, freeing! When I get anxious I sit in my studio and watch videos of painters. It's incredibly relaxing just listening to some relaxing music and watching an artist create. You and I are going to be spending some quality time together. I am going to learn so very much I know. You not only have an artistic gift but a teaching gift, able to articulate the concepts of design, perspective, movement, color, even sharing your preferred tools and paint, so I get it so much better than reading a book. I'm very visual - duh, I'm a right brain artist! Thank you so much for doing this from start to finish project.

Hey Joe! I love all your videos and have them on while I paint at home. I am always learning something. You mentioned that you notice things look good in threes but didn't know why. It's because of the rules of thirds in composition theory. They eye loves odd numbers more than even numbers. There is a bunch of other information on the rules of thirds, and it is used to help make a really interesting composition. I hope this helps! Keep painting, your work is amazing !

So.... I would be anxious to get that blue sky nice and even and paint my clouds on top of that. You seem pretty confident you'll get that background blue gradient consistent anyway. Is that purely virtuosity (and I'm confident to say you have every rights to answer yes to that) or is eyeballing that gradient close enough? About 'congratulating yourself: It sounds more like when you sit on a bike for the first time and you don't fall over. It's a great feeling you need to express. "Look mom! No hands!!" You know? Penn and Teller have this show "Fool us" just to be amazed by magic like they were when they were kids. To be amazed. There is no substitute for that. It is great to find that feeling in something as simple as paint and a brush.

On slowing down a video: You tube has a standard "slow down' option in the settings. Select the cog symbol next to the CC in the bottom right of the screen and select speed. You can go .5 and even .25. And presto a 15 minute video is transmutated into an hour long one.

This instructional video is two years old and there are comments far back as 8 or 9 months, therefore, I do not know if my comment would reach you Joe. But my concern is the type of acrylic paint you are using. Are these cans of paint for wall painting like, no artists paint but the regular paint used to paint houses or any kind of architecture? I am just curious. Thank you for sharing.
