Murchison Madness!
Murchison! Whooeee - one of my favourite trips of all time. We set off to WA in planes, the whole crew flying over because 4WD Action photographer Graham Cahill had offered me his GQ Shorty to drive!
For the camera buffs this was the first time 4WD Action ever used Go Pro cameras, brand new technology back then. They offered us some incredible shooting angles but I remember how we lost one in a Murchison creek. We found it an hour later about twenty metres downstream, still running and the footage showed a hand reaching down to grab the camera.
It was our producer Tim Sargant who decided to do the full WA trip and spend some time at Murchison Off Road Adventure Park while we were there.
So how did that work out? OK, full on fun basically. We came up with some stupid idea about a 'beer-o-meter' or something and next thing we're fanging around in off road buggies, having an incredible time just playing up.
Oh sure, there's so much more to this trip than just the sheer fun of mates playing up but that really is the essence of how we used to roll. We'd go out, create havoc, have an incredible time and ..... possibly share a few drinks...
I'd met Graham before but this trip meant we spent some serious time together. Right from the start he had the right attitude and soon cameraman Watto and Producer Tim were thinking the same thing. West Aussie has always been a long way, to have someone over there doing dvd trips, someone who knew the place and loved every inch of it, would be perfect for 4WD Action.
Now Graham's a legend in his own right and well deserved. You can chuck a ball at someone but it's how they play it that matters.
Yes, and I'm hoping he doesn't remember me beating the stuffing out of his Shorty to get air for the camera. Graham's truck was a beauty and he put it on the line. It proved itself as the old Nissans tend to do.
Righto, and there's much more. That mud drag? Deadly serious.
