Hi Edward, I went there with my Father on Sunday's, from the Christian Reformed Church,he preached the sermon and I played my accordion. I was very young probably 10 or 11 years old. My Father called the buildings we went to were Fair Oaks, and Pratt Farm. One building for Men and one for women. I remember they had gardens outside. The houses were dark inside and the people looked very old, were in rocking chairs, lounge chairs and sofas. Some had blankets around them. I remember some were mouthing words, some sleeping, others staring. I remember feeling bad for them ,not really understanding why they were there. We also went on Sunday's to the main building on Oakland dr. Kalamazoo State Hospital. I remember always feeling sad as a child going there, and leaving them...because they looked so sad and alone.
