Hi there Nik, I am a newbie to your channel, but have been binge watching the others. You are a genius when it comes to paper and anything to do with it, and I have learnt such a lot about different tecniques other crafters don't share. BUT....................... I ADORE the mysteries that you tell, wish there were more of them. I know I could seem a bit "odd" enjoying them sooo much, but you tell them so well and you have an amazing voice and it doesn't matter to me what you speak about, just PLEASE continue with these mystery crafting sessions, LOVE THEM. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL LOVE YOUR WORK. I am a TOTAL fan!!!!!! I send you many Blessings and hugs from Cape Town, South Africa. Diana

@@tharp2499 I just joined a writing organization called Sisters in Crime. As a writer I can give my characters justice that unfortunately doesn't happen in real life. As for morbid, I found a fantastic KZbin channel called Ask a Mortician. I'm the squeamish sort but Caitlyn has a wonderful sense of humour and the things have been presented in a way that doesn't make me switch to something else.

Such a sad story. I grew up in a very small town, population of less than 1000 when I was a kid. One of the reasons I'm not that fond of small towns is there are so many selective cover-ups, lots of dirty secrets big and small. I came here originally to learn about making books but I like the true crime stories too. I love the colors and the paper today.

Yes, I come for the paper, the mystery, and anything else you want to chit chat about!! I don't enjoy listening to all artists but you have an amazing voice and perspective! Would love to see another video on how to do a case bound book? I saw the one where you made an art journal. I made one right after that and my back cover was a little wonky. Trying to do a second one and for the life of me I cannot remember how you stitched the book block together and attached it to the cover. I'm using an old book cover without a spine and was planning on making a new spine? Any of your video suggestions?

@@NiktheBooksmith I found your teachables class on how to bind a curved spine. After looking at it I think this is how I've been sewing my signatures into my junk journals? I'll keep going in the class but it's this the same as case binding? If not, do you have a different class for that style of binding?
@NiktheBooksmith
@NiktheBooksmith 2 жыл бұрын
@@skeletalremains3860 hello again, I apologize for missing these questions! I'll assume you're referring to the Hollow Back binding class? The binding taught in that class is a junk journal binding. Its an adaptation of case binding. But, it differs from case binding when we leave extra space between the signatures to allow for additions to be made to the pages while journaling. The Antiquarian and Forest Lore classes are much closer to a traditional case bind while still allowing for some additions to be made. There are also lots of videos on my channel that feature case binding: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmqbZaiQe8homNk and this series, too: kzbin.info/www/bejne/foO3gZ-Yjctre5I Hope that helps a bit!

And this happens all over the world..the incompetence of our police is everywhere. We have a case here of a child aged 4..William Tyrell who went missing over 7 years ago from a small town and i mean small about 20 mins from where I live ...and still no answers but whoever did this is still out there and that makes me uneasy. Think I'll crawl back into my cacoon. Love that rusty red colour your using by the way..

The incompetence of some police people continue to amaze me... Even a non-police would've thought of doing a proper crime scene investigation! Poor young woman... poor children and grandparents... I hope the children can reconnect when they are adults. But, thank goodness for competent police! Otherwise this young woman wouldn't have been given justice. Great recap and I liked the paper painting as well. I would only like to add that professional ineptitude, incompetency, and all-around idiocracy abounds everywhere; where it be small town or large city. In small towns there’s simply less to hide behind. Nefarious characters are everywhere. I’m so very sorry for any parent or other family member that has to endure this kind of heartbreak.

Yes, state by state. But even if your state has grandparents rights laws, it's up to judges to recognize them as "what's best for the children" most of laws in the states are like this. That's why voting in conservative Constitutional judges is so important.

Why am I not surprised at ill handling evidence in a small town?🤦 Or that... >cough, coughAHEM!< ... something in my throat.😉 Sadder still is the fact that the murderer's parents have taken the rights of Casey's folks to spend time w/the grandbabies. I pray God softens their hearts... these children lost both parents. And this is not right of them to keep them from seeing the children. Hi Janet! So, as far as the carpet is concerned. Apparently, the landlord's husband knew he'd be taking off for that job in Alaska. Since the police had released the scene, he took out the carpet since it was totally saturated so that the floor boards could dry out and new carpet could be put in. When you hear him explain it, it made total sense!

my first question when you were talking about them finding her body, was Where are the Children? I've been looking into strangulation recently because of personal experience. And I'm horrified to learn just how deadly it is, and how often it gets overlooked even by the victims (usually women). A person can be strangled to DEATH without showing any visible exterior marks. So looking for marks and bruises wont work. And we need to stop calling it Choking, choking is when you have an internal blockage like food, and other choking hazards. External pressure applied to the neck and throat that blocks the flow of Blood OR Oxygen to and from the brain is called Strangulation. ------------------------------------ If the woman survives, its called a non fatal strangulation. The amount of damage caused, the long term effects and damage, like possible stroke DECADES later, are pretty severe. It changes who you are as a person. Also a woman who is strangled even a single time is 800% more likely to be murdered by her abuser. I never reported my case at the time it happened, even though while it happened, just before I lost consciousness and realized it wasn't an intruder, I KNEW I was dead. But I woke up confused many hours later. Now I know that I also had a seizure. As soon as you lose consciousness brain cells begin to die. You can look into it yourself there are some good videos out there. But i saw one today that wasn't that good. In talking about strangulation he was focused only on the blood vessels on the sides of the neck being interfered with, and not the airway. So he said you can still breathe and talk while being strangled. No, not the kind I experienced, lost consciousnesses within seconds. He even mentioned George Floyd who was definitely NOT being strangled, nobody had hands around his neck, did he see a different video? ----------------------------------------- They've done studies on the people who kill cops, and found a high percentage of THEM had a history of Domestic Violence including Strangulation. So a man (usually a man) who strangles anyone is a potential murderer. Maybe cops would pay more attention if they knew the life they save could be their own, since they don't seem to care about the woman. And MOST women, I would venture to guess, don't even report it, or aren't allowed to, or don't even remember being strangled. Pretty much all of the women in my DV support group had been strangled. Many of us referred to it as choking. Wrong terminology. Now I know why one of my therapists told me he was the murder suicide type. I hate that cops and the courts only take abuse seriously if there are "marks".

and if you look up strangulation you'll find lot of videos about choke holds in wrestling, and they all say there is no long term damage (but people have died...). Some states are finally changing it from a misdemeanor into some kind of felony, but not all of them yet.

More infuriating incompetence. It gets better with Sanchez btw.... he had to have a bench warrant sworn out for his arrest for failing to appear. After appearing only once he seemed to disappear. It seems he was hoping to derail the trial. When law enforcement finally caught up with him, he pleaded innocent .. then pleaded guilty. He was fined and had to pay the court back for all the running around they did in order to find him and hold him accountable.

That’s a lot of counselling and trauma work ahead for those poor souls - and not being allowed to have a relationship with their Mum’s family? I’m not even sure how that’s legal?

Incompetence at the level exhibited in this case requires deliberate execution... and should, at the least, cost Sanchez his state retirement benefits, don't you think? And how on earth did a murderer's parents end up with full custody of the children their son abused??? Had never heard of "cave paper"..... but love the results you achieved! Oh.... one more thing..... Please add me to the list for a CraftTime Mystery tee-shirt!

Man that is SO messed up!! The fact that the grandparents can't see their grandkids is so sad! You wonder if there aren't any rights that they have. In my opinion when violent crimes happen in small towns and there is a cop or ex-cop as a suspect the crime shouldn't be handled by the local law enforcement! It should be state or another town or something. Too much good old boy mentality in small town law enforcement. They should recuse themselves because they have "too much skin in the game" as they say!

I also live in a small town and saw from start to finish the case of Michelle Neurauter, a mother of three girls, who was murdered by her husband, Lloyd. Lloyd had groomed the children from a very young age to believe that their mother was crazy and unstable. She wasn't. She was a valued employee. Lloyd convinced the middle child, Carrie, to aid him in covering up the murder to look like suicide. The local police chief bought the cover up until Michelle's lawyer came forward and told the DA that Michelle said if anything happened to her Lloyd was responsible. Long story short, Lloyd was convicted of her murder and was sentence to life in prison without parole. This case was also covered by Dateline if you are interested in following up.

Like others said at least Justice was served. I do wonder though if the maternal grandparents can apply for visitation rights. It’s so sad not to be able to see your grandchild.

This is a big problem in every small town. Where I live for example in Germany our police station is responsible for like 4 or 5 towns and several villages. In America it's not possible like this because of the low population density. A town needs a few people for law enforcement close by. Or police can be anywhere in a few minutes. But in America where the next settlement is like 50 km away it's not possible like that. This brings many benefits. For example the officers know the towns people and they are known by the people as members of the community. Many conflicts can be mediated without taking out guns or putting people into handcuffs. But it also brings problems because the people are their friends victims and offenders.

I had always thought small towns sounded romantic and that community feel and involvement was important but I guess not. We don’t really have that kind of small town culture here in the UK. We’re messed up for a whole bunch of other reasons 😏 thanks for sharing Nik, talk paper all you want, we’ll listen 🤣

Is your small town culture anything like MidSomer Murders or Britain's Hidden Villages with Penelope Keith? Just a bit of teasing, I know the former is fictional but was curious about the Hidden Villages. I adore learning about the history of the UK, the food. mythology. Thanks for posting your comment. I didn't realize the UK didn't have close knit communities that help one another.

I do have a case I would love you to do your review on. It's a girl murdered near where I live. Her name is Dawn Marie Hendershot. She lived in Massillon Ohio. Her killer was.... well, I'll let you do that if you choose to go over this case. It was solved, but hits so close to home for me, and I feel so bad for her family. Had to add, my address is Massillon, but I don't technically live in Massillon. I live in Perry township which is located between Canton Ohio (football hall of fame city) and Massillon Ohio. Because we are a township we don't have our own post office. Hence the Massillon address. Friends of ours were neighbors of Dawns. And would see her walking through the back yards from the bus stop to get home. Sooo Sad.

Nik, if you want a fascinating True Crime story, look up The Appointment Murders that happened near Johannesburg in South Africa. Oh my word, there were at least 12 murder victims, a religious cult, a couple of psychopaths, mind control, money, police corruption, a journalist falling in love with a murderer…the whole nine yards. It is the MOST bizarre story you will ever come across. It sounds like something from a movie…only it’s not. It REALLY happened.

there is one case that upset me greatly - but i do not remember the names - story line - a 12th grade beauty queen became pregnant - disguised her pregnancy - although by the time prom came she needed alterations because of her bump - blind parents i guess - but - she ended up giving birth in her house - in the bathroom - family home - i guess they are also hard of hearing - gave birth - baby was making sounds - and she buried this poor newborn in the backyard - they went to trial and guess what the verdict was - yep not guilty - how?? why?? did other things occur that they did not mention - because i'm sorry - there is something very wrong here
