It's not just in that town, but that time. People would travel far and wide in large numbers to watch people being executed by public hangings on town squares all across the US. Not that long before this, people gathered for public executions by beheading or hanging on public places in Europe, too. The people who stayed away from such "events" are never mentioned. I hope they would represent the vast majority of people - then AND now. Poor Mary. She was "just" an animal in the minds of the spectators.

It's interesting to note that there are no recorded attacks by killer whales on humans in the wild, as a matter of fact they either show a curiosity when it comes to us, or no interest at all. Any animal will lash out after being treated like shit for years just like us, and sadly it's 98% percent of the time our fault, but the animal pays for it in the end.
@rdarkstorm8414 Жыл бұрын
You may want to double check your source for this info, as there have been many escalating cases of orcas attacking and sinking boats, and encouraging their young to do the same. This is something both currently happening and historical, killer whales are called killer whales for a reason
@tracieday8661 Жыл бұрын
You're right about whales but recently a whales was injured by a boat and so now in that area orcas are attacking boats. Scientists are theorizing it's an act of revenge and they're teaching other orcas to attack the Rutters on boats and they've sunk a few. Luckily the people were able to get to safety before they sunk.

People that are cruel to animals are a special kind of depraved evil. Where I live in Central New York, we have pond in the middle of town. It has been the home of Mute Swan since the mid 1920's. Over the weekend, a group of teenagers captured the oldest Swan named Faye, and brutally murdered her.. then stole her babies. The town rallied in search of her and they found her last night. The five babies were located in a private residence and a business establishment nearby. This is the second time that this has happened. Mind you here in NYS, it is illegal to even touch a mute swan. Where has the humanity gone. It's stories like this one that remind me, the idea of humanity and virtue is just as much a farse as the idea of an honest politician 😢😢

You're right, the training of a circus elephant, from youngster to adult, is extremely cruel. It's a wonder more elephants haven't rebeled against humans. The bullhook is an insidious instrument, it's used on their tender parts to make them obey out of fear and pain. The ignorance and cruelty of humans, is beyond understanding. I'm happy circuses are mostly banned, and hope to see them shutdown worldwide, but it'll take a long time, especially those private sideroad shows. Poor animals.

I've heard this story before and it's horrible!! How can we blame animals for defending themselves? Why do we cage them and try to treat them like puppets? Even if they are treated like royalty, they are still wild animals and somehow we always seem to forget that. I knew a man who owned a tiger that he got as a baby when he was in Asia and its mother was killed. He built it a HUGE enclosure, he had the money to do so, and while it was really cool to play with her, there was always a sadness about her that made me sad for her. She never hurt anyone and was treated as a beloved pet, but she was still a wild animal and i always felt it wasnt fair. She died at 25, which I think is old for a tiger, not sure, and i always wondered if she was truly happy. Thank God it's not easy to do this anymore. Im 53 and this was when I was a child. Im not going to lie, I loved playing with her, it was awesome, and I don't know whether to feel guilty about it or not. 😢

I watch again, then to my horror, it wasn't a trash can, it was a cooker with hot boiling oil in it, and the owner came running out and looked at the poor dog screaming but could could do nothing, I don't even know how that could be posted on Instagram or anywhere and I hope that evil jerk gets the same done to him, I can't get this out of my head, why are some people so evil? People from Hartlepool in the UK are sometimes referred to as Monkey-hangers. Legend has it that during one of the many wars England fought against the French, the only survivor from a French shipwreck, which was a monkey, was washed ashore clinging to some wreckage. Having never seen a monkey before, the locals tried, convicted and hanged the unfortunate creature which they believed to be a French spy. Perhaps they'd also never seen a Frenchman.

I'm really glad that you did this story. I was born in 1974 & my adoptive father was kind of obsessed with circus history when I was a boy, & by the time I was 8 he had decided we should own & operate our own 1 ring show. Before that he was very interested in the history of clowning & the old traveling mini shows that would set up a small ring or even a dirt circle & local men could try to box an animal. There was more than 1 type of animal in those days but he was most interested in boxing Chimpanzees. My father was also a gay, Quaker, psychologist & a troubled genius, with a long history of amazing interactions. A great example is that he convinced Lottie Brunn, to come out of retirement, get her costumes out of the museum, & not only come work for us but she agreed to teach me how to juggle, & he very quickly became a known personality in the secretive world of circuses 7 carnivals. And sadly, our behind the curtain access revealed some terrible things. I don't remember who the man was anymore, but when I was still 8, we went to a show & one of the animal acts included horses, & the man did a whole routine racing a pair of horses around the ring, & he would jump from 1 to the other & back, & he closed the act by standing on them, 1 foot on each horse, & rode out the back. We were back there, & as they exited, he was shouting that 1 of the horses kept pulling too far from the other horse, & he had been concerned that he would fall. My father could see what was coming & started rushing me away but I learned later that he beat that horse & it couldn't perform again. I learned very quickly that domestic animals were pretty safe & the more exotic animals were OFF LIMITS. The man we hired for a Chimp act, Mr. Berger was missing a finger cuz 1 of the Chimps ate it, & one of my "jobs" was sometimes to hang around where the Chimp was caged in the back cuz curious people would try to wonder back there & I'd had to convince them to leave the Chimp alone. They aren't just fast & can kill or mutilate you, but they are immensely powerful & humans don't really stand a chance, & we soon dropped that act altogether. And, you mentioned that Elephants could be sold, & that's exactly what would happen, even when they killed their trainer, which could be a throw, a stomp, & 1 Elephant did a "head stand" on a man & killed him. But all that work & investment can't go to waste, so that Elephant would be "retired", shipped down to FL where most shows & performers spent the winters, it would have some time off, then renamed & put back to work. And, most animals in many shows had pretty awful lives, so I've been glad for a while that its been changing so much.

A Class production as usual, my Friend! 👍 Just to share... there have been one or two elephant attacks that have been caught on video. Whether they are male or female, tusk or no tusk, they do in fact use their head, not their feet, to attack. That is specifically, it looks like every one of those elephants that I've ever seen attack, even if they do not have tusks, they do drive their head down as if they do have tusks. i've probably seen that at least three times. So in the two versions of Red's story, I tend to think Mary "Goring" him is the most accurate. ;-) it looks like they try to pummel the target into the ground with the front of their head. really appreciate your work man! Whether it be on here or monsters, a person can always expect just a great production! Tysvm! 🤗❤️👍
