Season 02 : The Deep South
Episode 11 : The Phantom Barber : Pascagoula, MS
Certain crimes possess a readily identifiable motive, such as seeking revenge or pursuing financial, sexual, or opportunistic gains. However, occasionally, a crime emerges that is exceedingly eerie, seemingly devoid of any logical explanation or purpose. In these perplexing cases, devoid of any discernible logic, the chilling nature of the crime becomes all the more pronounced, amplifying the difficulty of unraveling its enigma and bringing the perpetrators to justice. In some cases, hard working detectives can clear the smoke and put the pieces of the puzzle together. Sometimes though, the truth remains shrouded in mystery.

My friend has owned and run a unisex barbers and salon for almost 20 years, Feb 2004 he opened and not long after he started working with a charitable foundation that sourced human hair to make wigs for children and young people undergoing chemotherapy. Several times the collection of hair he had ready for sending to them has was stolen straight out of the shop as he kept the hair just bagged up in a container with a sign stating what it was for. The first time it was taken was around 2006 by group of women who came in and pulled a distraction routine, one of them pretending to faint and two pretending to be concerned and get in the way, one baiting my friend to get a glass of water as one held the door open "for air" while the fourth grabbed the box, sprinted outside and jumped into the back of a waiting car with it, the other three feigned ignroance and fled in a second car. He contacted the police but they weren't interested, so he had some better cameras fitted and he figured it was a weird one off and would never happen again. Over the years however there had been 4 obvious thefts of the whole container like that, a couple of people walking in grabbing armfulls and making a run for it, and many more less obvious removals of hair from the box by people stuffing it into bags and pockets while backs were turned. This had my friend questioning why obviously, so he contacted the charity and asked them if they had other sources who had trouble with hair thefts, and they came back to him and said yes, it's not often but does happen, they suggested it was just being stolen to be sold to wig makers, this made sense so he gave in and put the box for hair donations in the back of the shop in the locked store room and he left it at that. The cameras he fitted also recorded many instances of people just straight stealing the rubbish from the back of the shop, he didn't mind this as much as it reduced his waste removal bills. Around 2014 he was established enough to have the money and the staff available that he was able to go off to a barber expo in America where he meets some fellow barbers with similar interests outside of barbering and becomes friends with them, they meet up at other expos since and stay in contact online. One day the topic of the hair thefts comes up in their group chat, one of the older barbers in the group speaks up and says, quote; "If it's not the black magic voodoo or alternative medicine people, it's people selling to the wig makers, and if it's none of those then it's the perverts!". As it turns out he had sold hair to all those groups over the years and said he probably would have gone out of business if not for selling the hair he cuts during harder times. I have to admit I lurk some of the weirder parts of the internet for the giggles, and I have seen "extreme" hair fetish or Trichophilia material a couple of times. There is a kinda infamous picture of an undressed and apparently completely shaved man in a bath tub *full* of long blonde hair with the caption "When you spend 10,000 Euro on your tricho addiction" that I showed to my friend, he said "that explains some things". The world is weird, and I'm pretty sure everyone who watches this content understands there are people out there that are happy to do things others would never even conceive of let alone make a business out of it, like sourcing hair for people to use in "magic" or fill a bath with and writhe around in it. Freakin weird, man.

At this point I’m not surprised but I am raising my eyebrows. Mainly because he bought 10,000 euro of human hair. You do you but if you spend that much money on m**turbation you need help 😂 I’ve also heard of people stealing shoe donation bins 😬

I'm thinking it extremely strange, weird or I almost want to call it ignorant, that he waited until after several "robbery" attempts and confirmation from the contact he was saving the hair for to confirm that "hair thefts" occurred often - before he had the genius idea to just lock the hair up...? Am I the only one realizing this is practically stupidity?
@stykytte
@stykytte Жыл бұрын
@@NuckinFuts_13 He did make efforts before locking it up, he wanted to keep it on display to encourage donations so that was priority to begin with. There were multiple variations on container and location in the shop, some more succesful than others. Honestly losing a moth eared container with a couple of bags of hair in every 5 years average isn't exactly the crime wave of the century, and with how excited he gets talking about it with me now I'm starting to think he enjoyed the battle of defending the hair when it was in the front of shop.

What if the little girls tried to cut their own hair and made up a story to avoid being punished by the nuns (my mother went to catholic school in Ireland and she only ever described the nuns as mean people who hit you with rulers) and then it got out of hand and the incident buddy confessed to was the only one he was guilty of?

The US blackouts actually weren't for bombers. There are records from German sub captains from before the US entered the war, sitting off the port of NY and commenting on what great targets all the shipping in the harbor would make well backlit by the lights of the city.

Yes, blackouts and dark window coverings to avoid bombing was a measure to protect European cities. America was only attacked in the air and at sea, and in combats overseas. Not a single bomb was dropped on an American city.

we had a case in Italy... that became international. Danilo Restivo was a rich boy that tried to "play" with friends and cousins in such a way: he tied them and asked to close their eyes. As one of them out of curiosity opened the eyes before "the time", he saw Danilo with a knife, he was going to slit his throat. Nothing happened as his parents were rich and well respected. Then, as a teenager, he became fixated with a girl attending the church. One day she had a sort of (non requested, not agreed) "appointment" with him in the church, and she disappeared. For 17 years. No one really investigated against the young man that was supposed to meet her that day, because again: his family was rich. They found her corpse hided in the church, about 20 years later. Nothing happened to him. They sent him to UK, where he was not "famous" for his bad reputation. He started to cut strand of hair to women and girls on the public transport. Then an horrible crime happened: his neighbours, a mother. Found dead in the hallway (so her children could find her back from school). Her breasts amputated. She offered her help to that new neighbour from Italy that knew not so much of the city... At this point the "rich family" could do nothing to protect Danilo in the UK and the local police began to follow him. Arresting him as he was hiding in a bush, in the public park, lurking at female joggers passing by, with a "murder kit" ready to kill again. Finally he was arrested.

The barber incidents didn't stop when Dolan was jailed. They stopped before his attack even occurred. There were very clearly 3 different people. Person 1 was the barber. He exclusively cut the hair of little girls and did not match the description of Dolan at all. We're talking about a paedophile here, someone who saw the girls involved on a regular basis and watched them from afar. The hair made him feel closer to them. Dolan was a chancer who exploited the fear and confusion of the situation to go ahead and get his revenge, he thought without consequence. The final was a copy cat who thought infamy sounded close enough to fame but chickened out after his first attack. Three very different men with very different body types and very different motives. That this was 3 different people is as plain as those nose on your face. This isn't a progression arc, people don't go from snipping little girls hair as a compulsion, then beat some old people with an iron bar and take no hair then just for giggles start using anaesthesia on adult women. It doesn't line up at all. They sure as heck don't cop to the only charge that could bring any real prison time but claim innocence on those where no one was harmed. The first guy got off on the fact the girls could wake at any moment. He took his time and drew them in. That's nothing like the other two crimes.
