This poor old Mazda (not Murphy, as I mentioned in the video) CRM142, has no tube base....let's see if it can be rescued.

I always take the tube base and thread wire through it first and then make a small solder connection on the original tube wires did carefully Slide the socket down the wires And Flow the solder into the pins and wires then simply clip off any wires that remain

I was very lucky that none of the wires were actually broken, they simply pulled out of the socket. Every joint was dry, maybe that's why the set was retired. Your way of repairing the tube base would be very handy for broken lead out wires though. Cheers

The tube won't go bang if you knock the evacuation seal off, it will just suck air in.

Interesting that not all the pin holes are used in the tube socket. Thumbs up from me

Very much enjoying the channel, I am just getting started with t.v. having worked on radios a far bit. I would love a walkthrough of your workbench. It looks quite well thought out and I am struggling with designing/updating mine. I am interested in the way you have connected it to the ring main, whether you have specific sockets linked to an isolation transformer/variac/dimbulb tester etc. Best wishes :)

We're doing a complete rebuild of the workshop in the new year, so stand by for some videos of the refurbishment! 👍👍
