Definitely, I barely listen to any rap/hip hop after 2010. Theres a few that break through the period but I just cant stand the over-use of autotune and everyone using the triplet type lyric phrases and the trap groove on the hi-hats and blasting of the synth bass that everyones been using for like 15 years now, all with lazy weak lyrics on it. I miss back when lyrics and a clean danceable groove were the emphasis and not all these special effects and other noise.@@shonmoore3954

@@Future-Classic-Cars Lol I can easily name you plenty of non pop street rap from the 2000s. And plenty of mainstream 2000s rappers went harder than any gangsta rap from the '90s. Like DMX. Or Styles P. Hate to break it to you but gangsta rap was commercialized when NWA came out.
@Future-Classic-Cars4 ай бұрын
@@notavailable4596 We'll have to agree to disagree there mate, I do understand some of your point of view, but I don't think you're understanding mine, yes you had MC hammer, vanilla ice or whatever in the 90's, but rap was still mostly in a purer form, by the 00's it was mostly in a non purer form and mostly pop music (I'm strictly talking radio play here) mainstream songs that were pumped out. By your logic, Jump around vs Apple bottom jeans or kris kross jump vs nelly hot in here (was more raw by your logic) well they weren't the 90's popularised commercial/but still hard-core beats. The 00's softened hard-core rap and made it into melodic pop. DMX ain't got anything to do with either decade or genre, I'm saying rap was MORE POPified in GENERAL in the 00's everyone knows that.

every damn song from the past has these comments...we get it, yall grew up on this music and you feel nostalgic about it. I grew up listening to 00s too, but this song right here is basically a catchy melody with some average lyrics without any great substance, a typical mainstream song that any era has. All of that jermaine dupri music. Go ahead and compare this to something from Nas and you will hear the difference.
@JonBonesJones848 жыл бұрын
Damn Mixes What's the difference? Even Nas started to slip after his first few albums. He was actually overrated after his first 2. It's not only about feeling nostalgic. Back then, the rappers were more creative and more authentic than today. Every damn beat today is the same lame-ass generic beat. No two songs from 90s or 2k's sound similar to each other. I don't know what really happened. Was it Drake who killed hip hop and opened the doors to shitty hip hop or was it indie rappers? Either way, we will never ever see or hear anything close to what the 90s and 2ks offered us.
@DamnMixes8 жыл бұрын
+JonBonesJones84 actually its the 80s decade that was the most creative era in hip hop from which a lot of rappers used their ideas for their own career path over the next decades... what happened when nwa became a hit? a lotta rappers started making mainstream gangsta rap music in the 90s sounding the same, because the labels were forcing this. this is what OG's from the 80s said about the 90s, they said they all sound the same (gangsta music). Then in early 00s south was taking over with that crunk and trap sound, then fans from the 90s were talking how everybody wanna sound crunk. The last NY rap album that was heavily played in every city was get rich or die trying, after that the east that was considered the capital of hip hop started borrowing ideas from the south and hit a decline as they kept losing their own identity.. Basically what I am trying to tell is that every decade had its popular trends, this is what mainstream music is all about, so when yall telling how todays music is bad you are talking about the mainstream part of the music. Are you listening to freddie gibbs, rtj, czarface, kendrick, j cole?? The list goes on, In fact 2015 was amaaazing year for hip hop, but nostalgic fans won't recognize that....
