Murray Mexted reacts to Ian Foster's public criticism of NZ Rugby

All Blacks legend Murray Mexted joins Martin Devlin on the show, sharing his thoughts on All Blacks coach Ian Foster speaking out publicly against New Zealand Rugby's decision to appoint his successor months out from the start of the Rugby World Cup. Foster is under contract through to the end of the World Cup, but rumblings in the rugby community suggest NZR will appoint someone else after the tournament, and it's unlikely to be Foster.
Mexted agrees with Foster that it's hugely detrimental to the All Blacks' build-up to the World Cup for NZR to allow this story into the public sphere. Mex also says what he hopes to happen next.

I blame the NZRU. Everyone knew that Foster was not the best coach and it was a strange way they selected him. Now the NZRU once again are making strange decisions behind closed doors. Sack them all. Hopeless

Absolutely,totally agree,unfortunately the network of people mainly consisting of old white men running the NZRFU are racists assholes always have been always will be unless there's a total overhaul clearout of the board,how did foster really get the AB's job?,becoz it wasn't thru his record and reputation as a coach,was it becoz he was Hansen's mate?being white definitely helps,there's never been a AB'S coach of Polynesian descent,Dave Rennie was clearly the man for the job before foster got in but they're rather give a white man a 6 figure salary that's not a proven coach then pay a blackass Polynesian the same wage that is a proven coach!!!,FFS!!!,they're a bunch of entitled old white pricks that make a killing off the backs of incredibly talented Polynesians

A word for All Blacks supporters. I'm South African and a Springbok supporter and if there is one teams supporters on this planet who know the frustrations about incorrectly appointed coaches, ridiculous boardroom decisions and stupid political interfering then it's us. Standing back as a neutral in this issue I don't believe this All Blacks team is going to do as badly as some have written here. I believe the All Blacks team ethos is imprinted in the dna of every player who pulls that black jumper over his head. The All Blacks will certainly still be a factor at this year's world cup. Looking forward to seeing that happen and that NZ and SA knock the stuffing out of the other teams in our pool of death and go all the way to the final. And finals are anyone's game. A team good enough to get there is good enough to win! See you guys in the final of rwc2023!!

Nobody really know how The All Blacks are going to fair. They are good if not better than any other team in the World, don't worry about France and Ireland or England of that matter. My prediction is that when New Zealand win in the opening game against France in that World Cup, then they will take the Mantle as World Champions

Robertson has been locked in but not announced yet. Fosters contract is up at the end of the year and even he would have to admit the teams consistency despite winning all the cups is not AB like running at 60 odd %.Look at that last performance late last year against England.The board and Robinson have caused this situation by not biting the bullet last year . Anyone can see that Ryan and to some degree Schmidt have improved the team and selection but Razzer ,Macdonald and Ryan will really take this team to a new level.

I take what Muzza is saying about continuity, it was possibly my strongest argument for keeping Ted after 2007. The team was bloody good and we'd always dumped the coach after a WC loss, 24 years people, 24 years. Fozzie is a little different in that the lads have struggled a little more than most in this cycle, but I think it is too late now, just like with sitting exams, cramming doesn't work if you haven't put the work in and maybe we just need to hope that the work will pay off at this point. If it doesn't I certainly hope NZR take a long hard look at themselves, because this can all be sheeted home to them.

Mex we aren't winning the World Cup regardless of what happens and what is or isn't announced. Look at the last 10 minutes vs England before Xmas. That's not a team that can win 3 knockout games against high quality opponents. Everyone needs to get real here.

Even if we make it to the quarter finals, the prospects of winning the RWC with Foster at the helm are slim to none. In fact, I’ll be very surprised if we make it to the semi finals. Let’s look at the reality here: the modern game is different to what it was 10 + years ago, and Fozzy and co have not moved with the times. I disagree with Mex, I think they should terminate Fozzy’s contract and bring in Razor in NOW! But more than likely they’re not going to do that.

In reality, after Steve Hansen's resignation AB's standards, player morals public rugby enthusiasm, the brand AB around the world, injection of talents in the pool of AB..named few all have been contributing negatively. In that sense no need much rocket science to understand. If the leader fails even after 4yrs, it is no use wether Foster stays 6months or another term, you can expect more damage than gainings. Because Foster is already under stress from inside (AB) and outside (public), Aso his actions are keep failing. No need any experiments when you have the food it it or await for starving. Must bring Robertson before the world Cup and give him an experience even he couldn't win the WC.. he will be more shaper liker RAZOR. Ian Foster is utterly bluffy failed character. AB needs longterm grooming captain leadership like RICHIE MACAU with a longterm coach like RAZZOR. Common we like to see ABs as ABs not like others.
