One very important thing to note about the Santini pens is that the company offers a VERY WIDE RANGE OF NIBS including flex (more semiflex - imo), obliques, italic, stubs as well at the regular sizes and all 18K! As you noted, the build quality is excellent and the fulfillment is quick (for most pens) for pens coming from Europe/Italy. I have purchased several pens over the last few years and the Santini people and buying experience have been VERY positive. Oh yes, and, to me, for what you are receiving, the price is quite reasonable. Great mini reviews Doug. Thank you.

I don't own one, but I've seen some unboxings and the care they put in the package alone is quite astonishing.

The demonstrator /top of the barrel reminds me of of the Diplomat Nexus demonstrator limited edition fountain pen. That's an eyedropper but it has a clever valve shut off system that engages when you screw the cap back on.

I have to see that one!

Thanks to Murray, a "connoisseur of writing", for sharing these. I could barely spell it and have nothing that rare, so I don't think I'm there yet. I'm probably still in the gawker stage, just looking at the fancy pretty pens.

Wishing happy retirement to Murray and thanking him for having lent his pens to Doug for these amazing reviews! You don't find a lot of information on Santini Italia, but I read somewhere that Giovanni Santini (owner of Santini Italia) made nibs for Ancora (or may have owned Ancora at some point). Ancora was known for their amazing nibs and people that have both pens swear that the Santini nib is as close as you can get to a Ancora vintage nib. The Santini pens are all handmade by Giovanni (and his employees) including the cranking piston his pens use.
@InkquiringMinds14 күн бұрын
That is really interesting about the nibs!

Amazing pens. This is the first time I remember seeing the Santini pen. I have seen a Konid pen but it had a larger nib? In any case the Santini is a gorgeous pen. Pity it is not available, though I think it would be out of my price range. Thank you Murray for seeing these pens.
@InkquiringMinds12 күн бұрын
This Conid is the slimline. The standard size has a #6 nib. The Santini was around 350 Euro.

I need to order some Santini pen one day, they have something special about them and the nibs are spectacular. With a bit of luck, I will combine it with a trip to Italy to order it in person. You made me realize there's a generation which may not have seen a milk in a bottle. This Conid model is not "minimalistica", it is a "slimline".
@InkquiringMinds13 күн бұрын
You should! And thanks for the correction.

Thanks for the double bill! I love my Conid (ok maybe some Belgian chauvinism there), it is a great pen. Only downside is that I have to clean out the cap quite regularly as the ink drops in there bother the hell out of me 😂
@InkquiringMinds13 күн бұрын
Fair enough!

Those two pens from Murray are indeed wonderful! - While CONID still produces pens, albeit in very small quantities, there’s the Fifty4T Titan (also available in Ultem and Forged Carbon Fibre) Acrylic and the Kyuseido Kosumi and the Kakari Titanium that uses the same filling mechanism. (You might not have heard of these two brands at all, but these pens-like the CONID-are very expensive). - Perhaps I will buy myself a PenBBS 355 and experiment with this unique filling system because it’s very intriguing in how it works.

The improved 355 works very well, Hari. An interesting pen.

Conid appears to be Regular or Slimline and not Minimalistica. Later comes with a #6 nib.

Conid is a very nice pen, but I don't understand its ultra-premium price. Are people that desperate for its slightly different filling system? [yes] Thanks for the show.
@InkquiringMinds12 күн бұрын
It is probably because they have a very high demand and a very small supply. I hear the waitlist is now three years.

Santini is vastly underrated. Comparably few have heard of the company, but it's highly probably the very best Italian fountain pen maker today. Santini produces its own nibs and has vigorous quality control. In other words, it is the very antithesis of Visconti.
@InkquiringMinds13 күн бұрын
That's a great take on Santini!
@tayterlik13 күн бұрын
Oh yes, this is how I see them too; what attracts me in Santini are the same qualities which keep me away from purchasing a Visconti pen.
