I can live without having lunch or dinner but really not without the snacks.my daughter doesn't like the snacks.especially which are deep-fried and have a lot of sugar coating.Oh God!who don't like such a wonderful snacks.she always says "amma! can't you be cool without eating something always?can you please stop running that flour mill continuously ".I think she is totally abnormal(hey, please don't tell her).I would like to have the roasted peanuts with jaggery at least if I have no other snacks to eat.
I always buy savory snacks from our nearby sweet house.they make a variety of Andhra savory snacks.I go there at least twice in a month.onion murukulu, pudina murukulu, garlic murukulu were some of them which I had never tasted before.you can see them in the second video at the bottom of the post.
this time I thought to make the onion murukulu on my own.I first made this murukulu with the same ingredients below but added besan/chickpea flour in extra.the taste was good but was more like eating onion pakoda than murukulu.that was my husband's comment and I agree with that as the taste was not matching with the onion murukku that I always buy.so next time, I made them without besan and they turned out really good.the taste was exactly the same and amazing.this would definitely be a tempting snack for all the children[except my daughter :( ].
coming to the recipe, the murukku dough should be prepared by mixing the flours with onion paste.the moisture in the onion paste is enough to make the dough.but you can sprinkle a little water if needed.the dough should be hard.otherwise, the murukku strings that comes out from the murukku press may fall apart while pressing.I haven't added sesame seeds.but you can add 2 tbsp sesame seeds if you like.as you know that the onions generally take more oil, this murukulu also absorb little oil.but putting them on the paper towel helps get rid of oil.I hope you try and enjoy this recipe :).
