You made me feel like Spring is just around the corner. All the prepping for the new season is so exciting to see. I think you need to get yourself one of those jumbo magic markers and start circling what you want from that "Ison's Wish Book" just like my kids did with toy catalogs when they were little lol. I'm looking forward to your new growing season. Hugs to Y'all

My brother had a bad deer problem in the garden. He saw a video about using monofilament fishing line. It worked!! He used 30 lbs string and tied it to the t-post about 3' or so tall. They can't see it and when they hit the string it spooks them and they run off. He said it really really help.

I really liked this video. Hope you and family are doing good. I ordered and planted 5 new vines from ISON and am hoping they do as well as the ones I got from Fast Growing Trees and the one seedless I got from ISON last year. Will keep watching and learning. West Texas is not as good for growing anything as Georgia, but I will keep plugging away at having a backyard vinyard. Be Well and Keep The Faith, ya hear!

Hi Shane, your plants look fantastic! You need to tell Ison's they should open a branch here in Ca. For those of us who want their goodies yet can't get them because of Ca's regulations on shipping live plants across borders! None of the places here offer much other than cati, and other native non bearing fruit plants and trees.

Google and get on the hunt for a food local nursery, I bet they are around

Hi Shane, question. Can't you take trimmings from your established muscadines and make new plants? Let them root out in a bucket of water and then transplant them to the rows.

I have a muscadine plant in my yard and it is beautiful and thick that runs along my trellis garden fence. The problem though is that it is producing small (the largest is the size of a dime) fruit. There is a lot of fruit and they are bronze, but I don't remember the type it is since it has been awhile since it was planted. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.
@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia Жыл бұрын
I would bet probably a Carlos. We have a bunch of those and they produce really heavy and small. They are really tasty and make AWESOME wine and jelly. Sounds great. They also are self fertle so if you want to plant another this winter near by it would help cross pollinate
@shaneott76602 жыл бұрын
Hey Shane, I only have a 1/4 acre just for muscadine, if only one variety, what would you choose

Can you buy muscadine plants from isons in person year round? I noticed they only ship plants when dormant but a couple of the ones i ordered last fall didn't ever take off and was hoping to replace them
@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia Жыл бұрын
I think they are sold out for the season. This weekend I seen a bunch out front. If you live close enough might be worth stopping and looking at them

Really like your videos Shane. I would like your opinion. My neighbor gave me two young vines and told me they were bronze muscadines. Well I planted them with others I bought and once they produced I was surprised to see them turn black. These black muscadines started ripening extremely early, the first week in July. I am in zone 9 on the gulf of Mexico.These grapes are self fertile, tight bunched, very sweet and have a strong muscadine flavor and really produced. This one is definitely the earliest i have seen.

Sounds good to me, they may have just made a mistake. Any muscadine is a good muscadine

You seem to care a lot about your vineyard and it seems to be in a forest so you might be interested in trying out biochar on a weak grape plant. As an experiment, if creating charcoal is an option, make ~2 wheelbarrows of charcoal, mix with 1 wheelbarrow of compost/manure, mix all of this into the soil well 2-3 feet down and plant one grape there. In 1-2 years it will grow very large roots (biochar promotes root growth among many other features) and will become the best growing plant in your vineyard. If you're into living soil you probably already knew this, so just my 0.04$ (adjusted for inflation). None of this requires buying anything, all you need is a shovel (to dig a trench to burn the sticks and branches) and a water hose to quench.
