John Dunn yes and no. stopping on your chest like Branch was is a more difficult press. jose is a little beast though. branch doesn't quite have the power of the old days when he was shoulder pressing almost 4 plates.

This video is actually dramatic. Jose is much stronger than an open weight Olympia competitor and branch looks unusually weak here. The savage metroflex gym gives him more power.

It’s still full range. Some people go 1 inch above their chest so they don’t bounce it. Keeps better contraction and keeps from using a bounce.

Wonder how good Branch's physique would get if he lifted weights he could get better range of motion on. Not dissin just saying, looks like he goes too heavy but his effort is insane.

Jamecki Fair enough statement.I trained full range for 20 plus years then i started to do what Branch does and keep the muscle under tension all the time. Same theory why you dont lock out your kness on leg press, because then all the weight goes onto the knee joints and not the muscle. Bad for the knees and it stops the muscle being under constant tension which is a form of shocking it. It has worked for me and and def for Branch. Insane pump and i have grown no doubt. Peace.

somekindaguy100 i think on a physiological level both ways work to build muscle because the body just needs overload to be applied to stimulate growth. I think controlled contraction with good form is more efficient though, also it has the benefit of reduced injury risk and joint problems. take it from a sports therapist branch is going to be in tremendous pain when he hits around 45 (he already has nerve damage in his right lat)

I should of also mentioned that i started less range due to many injuries from sport, from rotator cuff tear to pec tear , wrist op and the list goes on.. And also due to injuries i can no longer lift heavy weights, so i find different ways to shock the muscle to overload it, and keeping it under consant tension has worked well for me.Brance is a beast on a way different level and yeah with the amount of weight and bouncing motion i do agree with you. If i was teaching a newbie no doubt full range would be advised. Then after time in the trenches you get to learn about you body more. I listen to one thing first and foremost , and thats my body, It tells you whats best for you, and lifting with less pain is a friend of mine. Peace out.

Bodybuilding is an art,not jerking weights...and not about ego either. It's about perfect form, feeling the muscles working and not care about the weight at all. It's a wonderful sport without drugs.

Branch not as strong as I thought he be on bench. Noticed that years ago. For his caliber of bodybuilder 315 for 8 isn’t that good. Jose doing 12 is more of what I expected (at least) for Branch.
