From the barrier, Muse performing Hyper Music at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles on Friday May 15, 2015. This song was requested by numerous fans in the audience who were holding up cards reading "HYPER MUSIC" and was the first time Muse played Hyper Music in the US. There's a brief shot of a Hyper Music sign at the end of my Supermassive Black Hole video: • Muse - Supermassive Bl...

shout out to the light operator, who had to improvise the light effects to match a song that wasn't even rehearsed

Certainly, everyone always gives the band credit (rightly so, what a performance) but nobody ever mentions the crew that have to keep up with the band 😂

I'd like to think the operator already familiar with this song so it helps LOL 😂

they sure had balls to play this without any previous rehearsal considering how rarely this is played and therefore practiced .. I wish they could do this sort of thing more often ...

checked the set-lists of the shows in the months prior to the Mayan, and saw that they played Hyper Music at Manchester Academy in March, so I thought we might have a (very small) chance to get them to play it--and IT WORKED!!

before leeds 2011, this was last played in 2003. then, it's only been played 9 times in 4 years across 2 different stadium and festival world tours. do the math. right, they had played it 2 months before this gig, regardless of that tell me one good reason they'd spend any time practising it and HEY, it wasn't even in the original setlist so YES, I can safely assume they hadn't rehearsed much more than assuming they had, and kudos to them because they pulled it off beautifully.

I just stumbled upon this video! Here's the story behind Muse playing Hyper Music at the Mayan in Los Angeles: My daughter won a trip from LA to see Muse at the iHeart show in NYC (tiny 200 person show), which was one week before the Mayan show. During our meet and greet after the iHeart show we gave them a (wish) set-list for the Mayan show (it was hilarious: Matt "do we have to play them all?" Us: "well, as many as you can. U.S. fans want the rarities too!" Hyper Music was at the top of the list. For the Mayan show were were on the barricade right in front of Matt, and brought 5 small identical signs that said Hyper Music Please. We showed them to Matt every time he looked at us (which took a while, because he didn't really seem to look at the audience until after 5 or 6 songs. But then he stood in front of us and asked us if we wanted them to play it! We said YES!!!! (I think we may have been jumping too lol). Then he walked over to Dom and Chris and asked if they should do it, AND THEY DID! BEST MUSE MOMENT OF MY LIFE! Anyway, so no, they were not playing this anyway haha (and yes, that's us screaming alot on the video, we were to the left of the person who shot the video)

I do appreciate the request and this recording. I was there too and it was fantastic (although strange that they didn't sing the "I don't want you" part and that we had to fill in that blank). When I watched the pro-shot recording later I was sad this wasn't included so extra happy for fans posting it!!!

I'm addicted to this band and I never stop listening to muse though a few records didn't suit my expectations. Anyway I truly believe this band drives out hatred and all of the negative feelings, their music is meant to be flawless but the search of a commercial approach instilled a weird culture and it recently determined a progress we all know; that's a change that slowly made the sound become more popular, it turned into some ballads and it scared many fans off because when you're not as original and personal as previously the keenest fans feel betrayed, struck into their soul. I don't want to bash a band for a change because they were clearly looking for a breakthrough and for a successful age and they never fail over a concert. Their gigs are fantastic, after watching them live you realize there's no one who can be compared to Muse for the charm on stage and the way they unleash the crowd. Queuing up for one of their gigs is theatrical and it is also addictive the speed of the images. They break the mould! If i hadn't come across the discovery of these talented guys I might never have loved and commended the alternative scene and the indie tendencies, whose fathers are performing in the video above. Love them and if you're a great fan, keep it up! Never feel ashamed of bearing their name! Muse can totally encompass love, dedication and faith and each other word can be excessive!

this really gave me chills. this was my favorite track by muse in the early 2000s, my dad bought a special cd player to carry in the car because his radio was dead, and we would listen to this track + plug in baby back to back for hours. Now he is dead, and I have the feeling no one aside from us ever listened or appreciated the track Hyper music, since nobody talks about it and its never played live. So seeing the audience freak out here is amazing, I never expected people to react in such a intense way to it; I wouldve lost my mind if I was there

“We haven’t got that one have we?” Meaning that they haven’t got a backing track. Muse use a lot of backing tracks/midi nonsense these days. Then Matt says to his guitar tech that he will do his own pedals (very rare) and goes on to tune his guitar down to drop D and just goes for it - like old muse! Wonderful!

It's something to Dom or Chris like "remember that one?", then "do you all wanna hear that one?", then some mumbling about it being on the second album, a "you wanna do it?", then him announcing the song. I think, at least. I could be wrong.

it's like they don't understand their fans at all. We want the deep cuts. We want the good stuff. We don't give a crap about the stuff that plays well on the radio, give us the real stuff. I can't believe they don't do this more.

RHCP played almost totally new songs for their 2023 concert in Australia, and deservingly got a lot of criticism LOL. Muse at least played their iconic songs for most of the time, roughly 50% of their setlist, which is very fair for me. This is true also until 2023.
