I was searching in Muse's songs for a good one and found this, since I am an atheist I thought "Let's hear what i'll be thinking when I'm about to die" It scared the hell out of me
@Jimmy92989 жыл бұрын
The song is actually about a believer who is mortified and saddened at the helplessness he feels. The believer's friend/loved one is an atheist who is dying without believing in god. It pains the believer, and keeps him up at night. "I know the moment's near and there's nothing we can do" he's probably talking to his family or friends here. "Are you afraid to die?" he is asking one last time, the atheist keeps saying no. "It scares the hell out of me" the believer is just being haunted that the atheist is stuck in his ways even as death approaches. The believer loves this person sooo much. It hurts because in his mind, he wants to save his friend/loved one but they won't even try. There's nothing that can be done or said in this situation. He just has to accept it and that's what makes this song so sad.

Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Though wise men at their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle into that good night. Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight, And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way, Do not go gentle into that good night. Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay, Rage, rage against the dying of the light. And you, my father, there on the sad height, Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray. Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Thought this poem was somewhat relevant. And if you disagree, it's still a great poem.

I think therefore I am. The only certitude. The only knowledge about the universe we'll ever have. So take a moment to look through the eyes of an atheist, bid your farewell, and greet the void. Think of the finality of conciousness, of the suffocating brain cells that turn off indefinitelly, like a milion black holes in your head, devouring you piece by piece. Think of their heat, their light, their innate power to conjure a concious experience extinguishing. Close your eyes. Drift away. Numb to pain, deaf to sound, blind to all. I think therefore I am. But if I don't? But when I won't? Isn't my stream of conciousness more important than the rest of the universe combined? What is this sick joke? Why is there a universe for us to be born in, if we are fated to the void all the same? I can think of nothing more frightning. An eternity in hell would be better than the gaping abyss gnawing at my soul, at my mind, at my flesh. So I shut the thought out from my head. I cast it away and think of something else. It can't be. It can't be it can't be it can't be. God wouldn't let it happen. We were born for a reason. Humans probably reincarnate. Any belief is good, even the more cynical ones: 'my concious experience was an illusion; and all concious experience in the universe is an extension of Brahma'. 'The world is like a novel, and my story remains forever written on its pages, long after my character passes'. But what do we know about it? Humans are likely to deny global warming if their livelyhood depends on fossil fuels, humans deny the conciousness of the animals they feed on, humans deny the humanity of the feotuses they discard. To what extent would humans deny the void of death if it was the truth? No matter how enticing. No matter how much I want to believe, and how steadfast my faith is... I know that... I'm not fit to judge. I'm not fit to find the truth from among the comforting lies, in the same way that a lion isn't fit to judge on the fundamental rights of a deer, in the same way that a weighted dice isn't fit for play. So what comfort are my beliefs? What comfort is the six I got on a weighted dice? What comfort are the stories I tell myself, when I'm too lucid to forget I made them up? I'm frightened. Plunged into an existential crisis. An existential fear; or is it a certitude. An existential horror. Yet there isn't a thing I can do about it.
@ericscott90298 жыл бұрын
Living life in fear is a life well wasted, living life in color is a life well lived. I'm Atheist myself, I don't worry about what happens after I die, I don't have enough proof to tell me otherwise anyways, so I do take the thought of Eternal Oblivion to mind. [Body shuts down, we permanently lose consciousness, and we cease to exist, no afterlife, no reincarnation, just our body doing what it does when we die; shut down], but to stress your one life over it, will do nothing, to judge others for believing or not believing, does nothing, only one can be right, or perhaps, wrong after all. Who are we to say our beliefs are right when we don't know? How come we aren't going by what we know, wanting to know more and more before we die? We should be enjoying life, taking curiosity, being as open minded as possible, admiring it, because after we die, that's it, that was the only time you were a complex extremely advanced organism, now your energy will break down, for others to consume [bugs, worms, bacteria, etc]. So, if you'd rather sit there worrying about it, or be trying to make a mark or enjoy your complex organic life, do either.
