MUSEROAMER PROJECT (Part 4) The Ultimate DIY Overlanding Expedition Vehicle!

Over the last decade I've lived in a progression of different vehicles. This time I wanted to build the ultimate overlander for Season Three of the Tiny Home Adventure. We set off to build the expedition vehicle of my dreams from the ground up with a $30,000 budget. We documented every aspect of the build, from the design process to all the hardships along the way. To be honest, this was one of the most challenging projects of my entire life, but the final product exceeded my wildest dreams! I want to share with you how we made it happen!
On this episode we start to install our cabinets, we install our Dometic Fantastic Fans and Penguin II AC unit, then we close up the box before cutting out the pass through to stay true to the Earth Roamer type vehicle. The dogs decide to roll in the mud before finishing the fiberglass. Finally we mount the camper to the truck!
Time Elapsed 2/9/2019 - 5/10/2019 179 Days from start
Approximate Budget: $32,786 of $30,000 (Including Truck $10,000)
This series encompasses all things #vanlife, overlanding, camper, off-road, expedition vehicle, lifestyle, adventure and more!

Andrew, I know I made this comment on your Ig, but I have to say again, Im so GLAD you made it with a pass through! I hope to one day build something very similar on a Kodiak chassis, and a pass through is first on the list! LOL. To be able to go from driving to being able to stop/camp/go to restroom/security, or just go to bed without ever exiting the vehicle is a huge a factor to me.

AWESOME!!!. Glad you got it bulletproofed. As a fellow 6.0 owner I highly recommend getting a Scangauge 2 to monitor critical data as well as a pressure gauge on the Degas bottle. I just took my build onto Old Highway 105 in the Blue Ridge mountains and it was incredible! The truck didn't love the slow climbs too much and I think installing a switch to manually turn on the fan would be ideal. Something to consider when climbing the slow going mountains. best of luck!

Andrew Muse I agree living in a camper where you do not have access to be able drive away when needed can out you into some dangerous spots but sometime I understand some people can’t avoid it . You did such a great job on the entire vehicle showing it can be done way cheaper than buying a insanely expensive one but it will also take having some friends to help also.

@AndrewMuse
@AndrewMuse 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the support and feedback! I'll be posting the final weight in a later episode and I'll keep everyone updated on how it holds up. We have a running tab of the cost I just have had a hard time separating it out per episode since we saved every receipt over the last year. Everything was harder than I expected, the wall construction, the wiring, the plumbing, since it's so custom it was hard to get answers from anywhere on best practices.

very nice concept and workmanship I wonder if the mounting points would work with some heavy-duty suspension bushings / grommets to isolate and cushion things (no direct metal-to-metal contact). Do you get much vibration from the frame of the truck going into the floor?
@AndrewMuse
@AndrewMuse 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you George! I'm not sure about the bushings, I'm sure something like that would work though! The tolerances on the mounting knuckles are super small so there's no rattling. And no noticeable vibration in the truck other than some road noise.

Just subscribed to your channel! I think it would be awesome to do something like this in a few years. I am only 13 but I am a fine woodworker and have a few years of experience. If you have any questions, let me know. I have build a shop up with my own money from craft shows and custom pieces. My last large furniture project was a black walnut coffee table with black tinted resin in the cracks. I have a similar story to you because I lost my dad when I was five. I haven't let that stop me and have met other guys that have been supportive of me and want me to do the best I possibly can. Hello Andrew, I've been watching your videos for a while to get some ideas for my own project on an f250, just wondering if you got any issue with the passthrough. I plan to make one but wondering what should be the problems your friends were talking about.

After spending over a year building this one I'm taking time to enjoy it and go on adventures now! When we first started the project I thought maybe I could make them for other people but with the amount of labor that goes in alone I couldn't justify the project for much cheaper than what Earth Roamer charges haha

@@AndrewMuse Thank you for the reply, yeah I have been watching the build and couldn't figure out where the spare was as something that is built for off road definitely needs a spare. I don't know where is sensible to put one on your rig, the only place I can see is on the back; but with wheels as heavy as that you would need some form of crane or lift to get them there. I hope you figure it out and I'm glad I hadn't missed something important.

why didn't you have the wall panels overlap where they meet at the corners? having them just kiss at the corners then fill in the gap just seem like a terrible structural design. This video does show the walkthrough I didn't see in previous videos, You 100% made the right call by ignoring all the naysayers

Thanks Greg, They are attached to an inner steel frame. There would have not been much to gain by them ending at a right angle. Would have been mounting to foam if that makes sense.
