Watch Musette being played in slow practice tempo with precise bow division and phrasing, with simple beginners technique so you can imitate it with ease!
If you dont have strips on your own bow it can be helpful to put some on, or use chalk to divide the bow into four even parts so that you can copy a precise bow distribution:-)

Hello! I am studying these books alone and cannot have a teacher. I was wondering if you could explain to me - how do you decide/understand what section of the bow to use on any given piece? What, when looking at music pieces, decides/would make sense to the player as to whether I should use which section of the bow? Up or down I understand is usually notated or can be figured out by the logic of which direction I am entering the section from. But I was playing too much of this piece in the top half, when I see you using the lower/middle section, and I was playing the lower/middle section when you were in the top middle/top half. I hope this question made sense, wasn't sure how to best explain myself. Thank you for all you do, I truly appreciate your videos ♥ ♥

Hi there! This is a very good question, and requires a longer answer as this is not a simple topic. Dynamics, bow strokes, phrasing, style all play into this as well as a necessary consideration for what comes next (will I have enough bow?). You could play the Musette only in the upper half, but then the volume will be rather low, so in piano, or mezzopiano, which is too quiet for the notation of mezzoforte and forte which you find in the Musette (I think piano comes only once). So dynamics tells you a lot - more bow if its loud, less bow if its quiet (there are other ways of changing the dynamics as well, but this is the first way to learn it). I wont adress the other issues in this response, as it is too complex, but needless to say, this is something that violin students learn over a long period of time. I hope this is of help, and wish you all the very best for your violin journey! And dont forget to subscirbe:-) Thank you!

Make sure you practice the notes without the slurs first, with lots of repetitions! The second finger pattern (second finger low) along with the fourth finger is tricky for everyone, but with slow practice you can do it!

Thanks for these. I'm a level 7 Piano player and my instructor thought I was ready to start doing some accompanying. Got the associated Piano book and starting to learn them all. Thanks for the slow play. Helps with my slow practice. Now if only I can get the 6 year old's to play perfectly like you :) Any suggestions for a new accompanist?

Hi there! How exciting that you are starting to accompany and that these videos help your practice! Thats wonderful! The videos can be very helpful for the students as well, both in slow and in performance tempo. The videos in performance tempo have the accompaniment along with my playing, and it is helpful for the students to be familiar with your part as well. If they listen to them (or any recording with the piano accompaniment) and play along, they will be better prepared for your class. I hope this helps and wishing you all the very best for your music making! 🙏🎻🦋
