I love this barn! Yup, the barrel cart appeals to me, too. In America, I remember having desks with the inkwell holders but without the need for inkwells...always wondered what they were for, now I know. Yes, Bonanza! Great museum and great video :-)

Really enjoyed the video, I worked on a farm for thirty years so I know what most of those machines were used for. The toaster was a cake breaker for linseed cattle cake, it had to be broken for the cattle to eat it. I haven't been there for years time for another visit I think. Keep making the vids, all the best to you both.

Love the new intro! Dan, you did tell Mazzy the truth about '60 and '70 tv. Capital of Spain is S. I love your thinking, Mazzy! Think iron monger like fish monger. It's a salesplace. Bonus info on the duck decor was on the living room plaque.

hi there, in the same way a "fish monger" doesn't make fish, an "iron monger" doesn't make iron. a monger was a dealer or seller. hope that helps. Glad you are enjoying living here in Suffolk.

. Ironmongery originally referred, first, to the manufacture of iron goods and, second, to the place of sale of such items for domestic rather than industrial use. In both contexts, the term has expanded to include items made of steel, aluminium, brass, or other metals, as well as plastics. The term ironmonger as a supplier of consumer goods is still widely used in Great Britain, the US equivalent being "hardware store". Many architectural ironmongery items (for example, door handles, locks, hinges, etc.) are also manufactured for wholesale and commercial use in offices and other buildings. 👍🏻

Love it. That's a V12 Diesel engine. When I worked for BT we would a have MASSIVE engine the size of a bus in the basement of the exchange, as the emergency generator. I love a big engine!

A monger is someone who sells something in particular like a fishmonger. An ironmonger sells stuff primarily made of iron.

I love engines, I even bought a Kontax S90 Stritling engine which has literally be running non stop on my bed side table over a 10 watt incandescent bulb for the last 3 years. The thing with the shoe on it, it’s a winch. It’d be on one side of a field, and a similar one on the other side of the field, with plough that was pulled between them. I’m not 100% sure on that, but I’d put £10 on it being correct.

What an interesting place. I could wander around there for days. I grew up on a big wheat and cattle ranch so all that farm stuff to me was really cool. The rancher my dad worked for had a row of old combines sitting in a field. It looked like a combine graveyard. My dad and I used to get scrap parts off of them to fix the newer machines. The guy did the same thing with his cars, so their was an entire field of them all lined up too. Before my dad came along to fix things, if anything stopped running, he just went out and bought a new one. He had cars and combines dating back to the 1920's. Finally a junk dealer came along and bought all the cars and hauled them away. It took a week to do it. I wish I had pictures of those flatbed semi-trucks leaving the ranch stacked with cars. It would have been much nicer if the stuff had been fixed and gone to a cool museum like this. What a waste. This has been a wonderful stroll down memory lane. I am so looking forward to part two. Thanks a bunch!

I agree that it's definitely some type winch. Looks like you would rotate the long pole to turn the spool of rope below. The steam tractor also had some type of winch mounted to the bottom that was gear driven.

The Ironmonger sells the everyday things that are made out of iron that a blacksmith makes. (Pots, kettles, lanterns etc.) Just like the Fishmonger sells the fish that the fisherman catches.
