I really do have to applaud an author whose story wasn’t even the actual grand adventure of saving the world. Rudy was just trying to live a good second life and along the way, he set things up for those that came after him to save the world. Looking forward to the next few bonus volumes and the possibility of a sequel series down the road. The author certainly set things up but I also think there’s something really special about an leaving the future adventures unfinished, as if all the characters are still on their stories even today

Mushoku Tensei is a real one for that. It stayed true to it's main purpose that other isekai stray away from and just downspirals into another let's save the world, Ultimately MT is just about Rudy turning his life around and becoming a better person the world saving stuff is just side things that just helps to keep his family secure. Frankly don't even care if the author ever decides to make an actual sequel the war with the human god it just doesn't matter and like Rudeus what happens in the future doesn't concern him. I think the ending was concluded well and ended thematically.

This quote of Rudy's life mirrors the series journey in a way in my eyes. When Mushoku was first released as a web novel, the Isekai genre was still in its infancy. I remember myself brushing it off as just another self-inserted harem story for the mass you can find everywhere. But, as luck would have it, it just progressed at its own steady pace trying to stay true to itself and left long-lasting impacts to the world along the way.

The last 3 chapters (starting from the Final Dream) were among the best chapters I've read in my life that really resonated with me. An old man in his deathbed, who has gotten senile but manages to remember his loved ones at his final moments. His back and forth with the Man-God, thinking he can mentally torture Rudeus by threatening his children, only for him to say "Well, can't do anything about it cuz I'm dead. But my children can work it out in the end, I have faith in them." Then the Man-God turning into the literal crying wojak meme lmao. And his final words are great and very existential. Very well-written until the last word.

I finished Mushoku Tensei back in November of last year right after I watched the final part of the final season of Attack on Titan and then proceeded to sink into depression. I already had been reading the light novels after the first season of MT ended. I picked it up where I left off (volume 16 I think) and in one week I finished everything. Funnily enough I found myself in the same situation I was in when I decided to read what happens after season 1. I knew Mushoku Tensei has ended so I started with the manga and suddenly I couldn’t find the next chapter because as it turns out Mushoku Tensei original source isn’t manga but light novel. So I started reading the light novels and in November I found out that the light novels weren’t finished yet lol and it turned out that the original source was the web novel. I don’t remember if in November only volume 21 or volumes 20 & 21 weren’t released yet so I decided to read the web novels instead. I was very satisfied with the conclusion. It was a bittersweet ending. The Final dream chapter made me tear up to be honest (but unlike with Attack on Titan end those were tears of joy and not depression lol). Also I think by the end it became pretty clear to me that Eris is the best girl. But even though I hate haram and I clearly have a favorite girl I still think all Sylphie and Roxy were also very very lovely and you can’t possibly hate them. All in all, a great conclusion and I’m glad that Mushoku Tensei was my first experience with light novels (as enjoyable as mangas if not more)

I'm really curious how light novel readers would think of fantasy novels like The Stormlight Archives, The Kingkiller Chronicles, etc. They're so good, and you'd think that those readers would just fall in love with masterpieces like those, but it doesn't seem like they're even interested in them.
@Yami0to0hikari11 ай бұрын
Cause one of MT'S main theme is to protect one's family. Most of the first half of his story revolves around him travelling to find his parents and sister after the teleportation incident. As for the 2nd half, it is abt him getting stronger to protect his new family: roxy, slyph and eris.honestly if nanahoshi had ignored him, he would have most likely not gotten involved in his and ostread conflict. His character growth from the start to the end was inspiring and is more relatable then most other fantasy stories.
@Joenah511 ай бұрын
@@Yami0to0hikari That doesn't really have to do with what I was talking about. I didn't say MT wasn't good, just that fans of it would probably like other epic fantasy novels and I find it odd that most don't seem to venture out towards that. Stormlight was one of my examples because it's one of my personal favorites. I won't go into spoilers but if you want inspirational and hype, Kaladin Stormblessed is that to a tee. Kingkiller, another favorite of mine (even if it may never be finished) has a main character who, similar to Rudeus, is a bit of a prodigy with magic at a young age. It's one of the most engrosing series I've read in a while, with plenty of depth to it and meaning hidden in every word. My favorite book of all time, like Mushoku Tensei originally was, is actually a web serial titled Worm. The main character of that also starts off in a rather low place in life, dealing with some extreme bullying (though it's a superhero story, not an isekai-at least for the most part). It has some of my favorite character work I've ever read, with both Taylor, the main character, and plenty of the side characters. I could keep going, about these series or about others, but to reiterate my main point: There are so many excellent stories out there that I'm sure MT fans would love if they gave them a shot. They might like these more than MT, or less, and not all of these books would be for all MT fans, but should they try the right book for them I am confident they will love it. Part of what hooked me into Mushoku Tensei is how it's one of, if not the only anime I've ever seen to give me a similar feeling as fantasy books. And it's for that reason that I think anime and especially light novel fans should give branch out a bit and give them a try, even though that doesn't seem to be something most are interested in right now. Maybe all they need is that idea-to give them a try-because it might just be something they haven't thought of.

Oh heck yeah! Kvothe and Rudy's are my two favorite stories in general, by far. Both Pat and Rifujin are meticulous writers that plans everything from the start. That's such a great point. Today, in most cases at least, you can't just sit down and consume a series from start to finish at your own pace. Most of the time you have to wait and wait and wait. One Piece is the best example. I'm just tired of waiting week for week. I stopped consuming One Piece such a long time ago after i got back into it multiple times and now it's just over for me. Maybe i'll come back when it's finished one day, but 100% not before that. It must be such a great gift to know, that what you started just now is 100% complete. Not having to worry about not knowing what the ending is like. And i don't even talk about series that finished after a long time, after you had to wait for it most of the time. I'm talking about getting into a series and it being finished by the time you get into it. As i said, from stat to finish. It's so rare nowadays.

Mainly just some dude called man god with no significance (I am enemy!). Elinalise too. Didn't get to learn much about her mysterious disappearance in her past. It's the end of the main story, but there're still the afterstory in the Redundancy volumes, which implied that there are plans to be a sequel featuring Rudeus' children and the resolution to Nanahoshi's story. That sequel, as it stands, may not come since that was teased more than 10 years ago at the end of the web novel. I kinda understand why that's the case; there's the pressure to create a sequel that could stand at the same reverence as Mushoku Tensei on top of the work he might be doing with MT other than writing stories. MT was said to be the "grandfather of isekai", or the notion of staying in the other world rather than having the plot to get back to the original. Who knows, the sequel would bring back the latter plot becoming popular again. (And there's the pressure.) But till that day comes, I'll be waiting for it.

It's not really over, at least in WN format there's a kind of bonus volume set between the end of the story proper and the death of Rudeus. There's also a sequel following other characters, although from what I've read it's honestly kinda bad. Also MT's issue wasn't a translation one, the translator did their job well, the issue was with an editor who cut out whole sections they found problematic out of books (not just MT either).

I finished the web novel in about 3 months. All my free time was spent reading it, and I don’t regret it one bit. It’s definitely up there with the fate verse as one of my all time favorite stories

Love me some MT! I would add that that at least the first 10 volumes of realist hero were pretty spectacular. To what you said not everyone can stick the landing, but MT really did imho. ❤

You know I had to come str8 to the comment section when I read the title. Hell, I might not be around, but don't deprive watchers of another season or 2,3!!

I don't have the span to read so I bought the Audiobook versions sadly there are only 6 novels available as Audible versions. I do enjoy the journey so far I'm on Volume 3. After this Audio Light Novel, I'm thinking of getting Spice and Wolf if they have Audio Light Noals to celebrate the new Anime release date announcement.

With ascendance of a bookworm also having ended recently, two of the absolute best Isekai LN ending at almost the same time is hard. Of course we english readers still get a bit more but still. Gonna miss both of them once they're done in english too.

I don't think it's a very well written story, but the world building was something very promising. Hope that it continues to inspire new stories with equally good fantasy settings in the future.

I recall the web novel end and it looks like the author went a similiar route but the last words seem deeper.

Man I wish we got a few more chapters of Rudy and his family. I loved the volumes of just Rudy and Roxy and Sylphie living with Norn and Aisha.

I left the series SAD-isfied. It’s a terrible feeling that I simultaneously love and only great stories can evoke it.

I think Rudeus's true end of his journey could have been re-starting and re-living his modern real life but making it better than before. In a sense, your real home and real life is there in the modern world.

One other good thing that can come out of this is that the author can now start writing the story for the main story of Mushoku Tensei!

I've read the first few volumes, loved them and then decided to hold off on reading any more until it was fully published.
