I liked that. It really sold the "childhood friend" dynamic they had. Idk if this is the same for other cultures but as an Asian, your family given nickname is only really known by people who've known you when you were a kid. Agreed, people give Rudy a hard time because we occasionally hear vulgar thoughts, but for the most part he is a good and respectful person who is humble and honest. Everyone has the occasional lewd thought but they choose whether or not to act on it. With his power and family connections Rudy could likely rule Asura easily. He could go to Ariel and propose a marriage and then just kill her siblings and their armies himself with minimal effort. He could then have a harem and likely even Roxy as his court mage and Eris as his guard, but Rudy is a good person and doesn't want those things. We know Sylphie loves Rudy (and it is because of the person he's become, not her idealized or "groomed" image from childhood) , and we also know that Rudy loved her even when he thought she was a man) so of course he loves her as Sylphie. Paul was right to separate them, and now we can accept their love as genuine and not a manipulation.

I believe this is a first major showing of Rudeus' character growth. We've seen him battle monsters, Demons, gods, abandonment, and ED caused by severe depression. All of this came from a single promise to "Live" in this new life and leave behind his old self. I'm seriously proud of who he has become because he's come so far.

Usually Ben is so amazingly good at picking up theatrical effects like this, so I'm surprised he didn't say anything about how the background music stops as they are running to the cave and for most of the time, the only background sound is the fire, until after Rudy asks if "is your name Sylphiette?" and the music starts up again.

A funny little thing to add to 9:00 is that when Sylphy thinks of buying Rudeus, her mind went back to the slave market, picturing Rudeus standing on a platform with nothing on. "Buying Rudy... might be kind of fun..." The very thought actually turned her on. Poor girl has been fantasizing about him the past year. In fact, the side chapter from her POV where she went for that run through town had her reminisce about the wet dream she had about him after waking up.

i think the biggest 'journey' or 'growth' that rudy gets over these 16 years is to see women as people rather then just sex objects or npc dating prospects. i think thats what this scene shows. hes gotten to know 'fitz' so any sexuality comes from a more pure place then it would have if they had just banged the first day he met her.

LN reader here and i find it really entertaining to watch both of you speculate and analyse post episode…and your insights are really interesting…i didn’t have anyone i can bounce off my thoughts when i read the LN so listening to this is refreshing…here are my non spoiler thoughts back then i wanted to share after reading this part.. 1. Yes, Ariel lowkey wanted to leverage Sylphie’s relationship with Rudy to get him on her side for her succession war…since we are experiencing the story mostly from Rudy’s humble/low self esteem pov we tend to forget that he is close with a Shirone superhuman Prince, 2 Doldia warrior tribe princesses, a reclusive genius (Nanahoshi) and a Demon King….on top of being an accomplished adventurer who slain a dragon… 2. In the novel Rudy was mostly conflicted with his fear of intimacy because of Eris and finally reuniting with Sylphie, a person who he also knows made it easier for him to open up and taking the chance to get into a relationship again…

If I recall correctly, the ring just signaled another group that Ariel had hired containing two high-level water mages to create the thunderstorm. They had to get Aqua Heartia away from Rudy and even then he was about to overpower both of them using his normal casting. Sylphie had to use Aqua Heartia and a huge amount of her mana to help the mages get the rain started against even an unbuffed Rudy. Not really spoilers since it is likely cut content but Sylphie has a very large mana pool compared to most mages (bigger than Roxy's) but it is dwarfed by Rudy's. She would occasionally help with Nanahoshi's summoning experiments and would max out at around 20 summons (roughly high advanced rank spells) while Rudy could keep casting them for hours. Those final words aren't scary, we know she loves Rudy (and it is because of the person he's become, not her idealized or "groomed" image from childhood) , and we also know that Rudy loved her even when he thought she was a man, so you think he would love her less when he found out she was Sylphie (who was a girl he loved since childhood)? Paul was right to separate them and now we can accept their love as genuine and not a manipulation.

Some people are upset about the gloves scene, the studio changed how Rudy realized it was Sylphy. When the gloves came off he saw her burn scars on her palms and recognized her that way. I personally like the glasses and face reveal and being called Rudy instead of Rudeus as the final nail in the coffin. You do see her burn scars when she takes the glove off to cast the storm spell. 14:18 in Crunchyroll's version. I wonder since they purposely showed the scar even though they cut the scene during their childhood and in this episode if it'll still be used for a plot point later.

It makes sense to change it since it's a needless complication as it was never covered before and would kill the pacing when animated unlike when written. A silly thing to be upset over when there are much more significant lapses that may cause problems down the line. Like how nobody is sus over Ariel's response to hearing Sylphy's story about being stripped. Or how battle aura hasn't come up even once yet. Not unsalvageable issues but they're far more nerve racking than a silly swap in recognition.

Eris is a strong minded very confident independent aggressive woman to a bit of negative extreme that will sometimes mess up her and others. Sylphie is more of a strong but dependent woman who always needs to halve someone by her side to support her, she needs a bit of a emotional support. Roxy is more similar to Eris but less aggressive side more a thinker and sometimes has bit of inferiority complex. Silphy is the un-oficial first love, although not so much in a sexual way more in a very very close female friend caretaker way. Eris is his first sexual adult love to make it to home. Although Roxy was his first in his mind adult love but not acted on. Roxy is his dream unattainable love, his adult “senpai” woman aka like a goddess to him.

The original plan was for Silphy to ask Rudeus to sleep on his room (they have bunks) under the premise of Ariel's room being damaged and under repairs, then tell Rudeus when alone Rudeus offered to repair the room with his earth magic... Silphy argued they already had people working on it and they went to sleep on the same room, then Silphy chickened out and nothing happened Thats why they went with the more convoluted plan and Ariel gave the ultimatum, she hired a couple mages to cast the rain and researched what valuable material they could use as an excuse, and Rudeus almost screwed it by being too competent You can see he was in full gear, while Silphy just got a snow coat, because Rudeus has seen adventurers dying before, thats why his first reaction was to call his acquaintances to get the forest cleaned About those feelings of doom, well... there are five turning points, the doom gets very doomy

The webnovel had an additional plot: they blew up Ariel's room. So "Fittz" had to bunk in another room, and the girl's dorm didn't have an extra space where "he" could bunk. So she was assigned to Rudeus' room on the top bunk, with Luke's suggestion being that she'd crawl under Rudeus' blanket at night. Rudeus thought this might be a plot to silence him, so he was awake the whole night, pretending to be asleep. Sylphy just stood for a while in front of the bed, paced for an hour and then climbed back to the bunk. The rain plan was the last they were going to try.

3:30 is actually the point where the light novel revealed Fittz and Sylphy are the same person. Fittz' entire persona was also a degree of cynicism on Ariel's faction's part, with certain tidbits about "his" background being leaked to the court. 1) a young boy who can silently cast spells 2) has connections to the Greyrat family 3) is from the Fittoa region during the Teleportation Incident Any of those sound familiar? Even the cover name "Fittz" (with one T in the LN and anime, two in the WN) was formed from the name of the Fittoa region. Obviously this is a lot harder to conceal or obfuscate in anime than it is on text, so they didn't bother to begin with. The books started Fittz' story already in volume 4, as an extra chapter after Rudeus left the Beast Village. The events here are in the last 1/3 of volume 9.

I feel like, the final scene was the best description. I know, that the writing was the point why it was good, but still, giving some props for adaptation. Sylphy is not just emotional, because of her character. Rudy probably recognized how indecisive she was from her previous interaction as with Humble Fitz. The sheer devastsation she tried to hide this whole time made her cry. It is still just a think I believe in, but knowing the author's aproach, I feel it is cannon. Just imagining to lie through the life, just to survive and not let loose of the only people that grew close to her and finally accepting that the past is not lost to a tragedy. Despite that conciously she tries only to convince Rudeus, she felt the trauma inside. She was still pretty good at keeping herself from revealing her identity to a close one. But when she was exposed, it grew over this strength. Obvious touch, but made right. It is not always humble and epic. It is messy, almost desperate.

Rudy has been maturing. With Eris he was the one pumping the brakes when old Rudy would have jumped at the opportunity. With Sara he reluctantly agreed but wasn't the weird pervert he normally is (part of that was depression but I imagine some of it was him maturing). Part of it too is he came to a new world so he didn't care about these ppl or their feelings very much but by now he is taking this world seriously as a home. So he probably is taking into consideration the ppl he cares for feelings more than before.

This is rudeus' intenal monologue btw. "You know, a girl I know told me that elves have a rule against letting people from a different race see them naked. Why don't I turn around and cover my eyes? You just take those clothes off, dry them with magic, and tell me when you're done." "Huh?!" Fitz sounded more than a little surprised. That made sense, given that I'd made up the whole thing on the spot. If there really was a taboo like that, then it was one that Elinalise violated every single day of her life. However, the misinformation I was choosing to "believe" here should be very convenient for Fitz, as long as he just played along. I slowly turned around, closed my eyes...and began to listen carefully. No reason not to enjoy the sounds of him stripping down, at least. My imagination would do the rest. For some reason, I wasn't hearing anything. His clothes were wet, yeah, but even so... taking them off and drying them out with a spell should have produced at least some faint hint of a sound. This was really odd. Did he have some way of changing his clothes without making any noise at all? Come to think of it, there had been a girl at my elementary school who could change into her swimsuit without taking her clothes off first. That was a pretty cool trick. That school wasn't equipped with actual changing rooms, so the boys and girls were forced to change clothes together in the classrooms. Those were good times, in retrospect. Later, once the internet got popular, I stumbled across an explanation of that stealthy clothes-changing method. I'd developed a certain interest in tricks of that sort. My interest in this matter was purely academic, of course. It definitely wasn't a sexual thing. Probably. If Fitz hadn't taken off his clothes, he'd probably be freezing right about now. With that excuse in mind, I slowly turned around. My eyes met Master Fitz's at once. He still had his sunglasses on, but I could tell he was looking at my face. I didn't look away this time. Mainly because his face was alarmingly pale. "Master Fitz!" He was still clutching his shoulders with both arms, trembling more fiercely than before. There was no color in his face at all. It was obvious that he was chilled to the bone. In winter, temperatures in the Northern Territories were constantly well below freezing. Just walking along outside robbed your body of its heat very quickly. Hell, I was still pretty cold myself. The temperature in the cave was slowly rising, but with those wet clothes on, Fitz was basically giving himself an ice bath. This was incredibly dangerous. "Please, you've got to change out of those clothes. Do you want me to make you a little stall or something? Or maybe I could just leave the cave? Yeah, that's fine. I'll get out right-" "Wait." As I turned toward the entrance, Master Fitz called out to me. He stared at me for a moment, still trembling. And then, standing up on quivering legs, he slowly walked over and looked at my face. He was just...looking at me. Like there was something he wanted to say. But what was it? What was he trying to tell me? "You're, uh... you're going to catch cold, Master Fitz..." "Y-Yeah," he replied, his voice shaking. "Y-You're right." I was beyond flustered at this point. I couldn't begin to understand what he was thinking. "You've... got to get those clothes off. It's dangerous. Getting too cold can kill you..." "Yeah... I guess I'm going to die, at this rate..." Fitz nodded, but showed no sign of taking off his clothes. Uh, not that I was hoping he'd strip naked while I watched, of course. I know nothing! Master Fitz is a boy! Definitely not female! That's my official stance on the matter, damn it! I really needed to close my eyes now, right? "I can't take these off myself. You do it for me." What the hell was he talking about? "... Well, if you can't get them off, I guess I'll have to do it." What the hell was I talking about? Crap. My hands were already moving forward. I touched his shoulders first. They were cold...and slender, and soft. His body felt very delicate in my hands. Okay, she certainly felt like a girl. And of course, I was a man. Generally speaking, it wasn't okay for a man and a woman to get naked in front of each other until they'd reached a certain level of intimacy. That was as true of this world exactly as it had been in my old one. "U-Uhm, Master Fitz...to be honest, I'm aware of the fact that you're a woman. "Okay. But if you don't take my clothes off, I might die, right?" "R-Right..." This did not compute. I couldn't figure out her thought process here. She was obviously plotting something, though. Could this be some sort of blackmail scam? Like, I'd take off her clothes, and then some scary guy would pop into the cave, tell me that I'd learned too much, and carry me off to an Asuran laboratory to be dissected? Not that I'd have any room to complain, given that I was about to "experiment" on Fitz myself... My hands, which had acquired a mind of their own at some point, slipped Fitz's thick front-button cloak off. This revealed the drenched white shirt beneath. Not to repeat myself, but this was a white shirt. As you may know, shirts of that color are prone to becoming transparent when wet. This meant that I could see Fitz's underwear specifically, something that looked like a sports bra. The contents appeared...modest. But with the wet bra clinging tightly to her skin, there was no denying they were there. Fitz had natural padding of the kind that tends to captivate the masculine mind. "Master Fitz..." "What's the matter, Rudy?" When I heard that familiar nickname, I felt an old memory rising slowly toward the surface of my mind. I'd experienced something similar to this before. Something very similar to this. "Uh... pardon me, then..." "Go ahead." Fitz's face was bright red all the way to the tips of her ears. Somehow, even that felt weirdly familiar. I peeled off her white shirt, exposing the pale skin underneath. For a moment, I just stared at her delicate shoulders and her slender neck. She was thinner than I'd expected. Seeing her up close...and touching her directly...was having an effect on me. Some invisible knight was lifting my "sword" steadily upward as part of some holy ceremony. What was it about Fitz? I couldn't put my finger on it, but something about her got me so... excited. I had to fight down a sudden urge to push her to the ground right then and there. Ignoring my desires as best I could, I reached down to Fitz's belt. After a few clumsy, clattering seconds, I managed to undo it. I reached out to grab her pants by the waist... and then an image from the past flashed into my mind. I'd done something like this before, years ago. I was five or maybe six years old, but I hadn't forgotten. When I pulled down Fitz's pants, I exposed a pair of white panties. Unlike the first time around, I hadn't pulled her underwear down as well. That said...the panties were so drenched with rainwater that they were bordering on see-through. Was I seeing things, or was that a smooth curve down there...? I swallowed loudly. Fitz silently pulled her legs up out of her pants, then sat down in front of me with her legs splayed out to either side. I sat down on my knees right in front of her. The floor of the cave was rugged and rough, so my shins started hurting immediately. I reached out to her once again. She still had those drenched white gloves on her hands. "Let me... get those too..." As I stripped the gloves off, I found that one of her hands was marked by an old scar. I recognized this hand. How had that happened, again? Right, right. She'd stuck her hand into a stove once and burned herself. I remembered wondering if that accident had anything to do with her struggle to learn Fire magic. "Rudy..."

Fitz wasn't looking me in the eye anymore. Her gaze was turned slightly downward, at a different part of my body. The tent I'd pitched a few minutes earlier was still going strong. Fitz really was a miracle worker. "There's still one thing left." I knew she wasn't talking about her bra or panties. By now, I'd finally caught on. I reached up for her sunglasses and took them off. Beneath, I found a familiar face one I'd expected to see. Back in the day, I'd thought 'he' would grow up to be a real lady-killer. My plan had been to latch onto him like a remora and snatch up some of the girls he passed over. That was how pretty she'd been, even when she was a kid. And now... she had grown even more beautiful than I'd imagined. Her features still had a hint of childishness about them, maybe. But beautiful was the only description that applied. Her eyes were sharp and clear. Her nose was a little long, and her lips were slightly thin. I thought I saw a resemblance to her fellow elf, Elinalise...but somehow, her face was more approachable and endearing. Maybe she'd inherited that from her human ancestors. "Uh, Master Fitz..." "Yes, Rudy?" The way she tilted her head to listen, even as she blushed, hadn't changed at all. Why the hell had it taken me so long to figure this out? Her hair? Yeah. Her hair color was different. She'd had green hair before, but now it was pure white. But of course, peoples' hair changed color all the time. You could just bleach it if you wanted to, for one thing. "Is your real name... Sylphiette, by any chance?" "...Yes." Fitz or rather, Sylphie smiled shyly and nodded. "Yes... it is. I'm Sylphiette. Sylphiette... from Buena Village..." After only a few seconds, she was overcome with emotion, and her smile crumpled and disappeared. Before she broke down completely, she managed to lean forward and throw her arms around me. “I finally...said it.....” Her body was very, very cold. We stayed like that for a few long minutes. I was still shocked, to say the least. But at the same time, I was starting to feel like everything finally made sense. Sylphie was sobbing and sniffling quietly while squeezing me tightly in her arms. It was pretty similar to how this had played out last time, actually. It looked like she was still a crybaby. Her body was still soft, too. She was so slender you'd think there wasn't an ounce of fat on her, but when you hugged her, it felt like you had your arms around a cloud. Did she use fabric softener on herself in the bath, or what? "I waited... I waited for you all that time, Rudy. I stayed in Buena Village, and I worked really hard..." I knew that much was true. Paul had already told me all about how Sylphie had spent her time once I went off to tutor Eris. Saying nothing for the moment, I just stroked her head. She reacted by squeezing me even more tightly. After a moment, she raised her face to look at me. Her tears and runny nose had left it something of a mess. I wasn't sure what to say to her. "I've always..." Sylphie knew what she wanted to say, though. She looked me right in the eyes and said her piece. "I've always loved you." All I could do was stare down at her in stupid, blank surprise. "I loved you so much back then, Rudy. And now I love you even more. Don't leave me again... please? I want to stay with you forever..." My mind short-circuited. I was quite literally stunned. Of course, Sylphie had been really attached to me back in the old days. You might say I'd arranged it that way, really. But things were different now. I'd spent a year learning to trust and respect "Master Fitz" as my friend and equal. She was her own person, standing on her own two feet. I had real attempts to brainwash her as a kid? It seemed possible. Still... I'd come to genuinely trust and rely on Fitz. She was a smart, knowledgeable person who listened to my problems and helped me think them through. I wasn't the only one who held her in high regard, either. Princess Ariel placed great trust in her as well. And she was telling me that she loved me. A warm, pleasant feeling swelled inside my chest. It was still hard to wrap my head around the fact that Sylphie and Fitz were the same person... but I was still so happy that I felt like dancing. For a moment, I found myself thinking about Eris. Had I ever actually told her that I loved her? We'd talked about becoming a family at one point, but she'd been the one to bring that up. I couldn't remember what I'd said. What about Sara? No, things had never gone that far with her. I wasn't sure if I really had loved Sara, honestly. I definitely liked her, and I'd tried to get her into bed... but I felt like "love" wasn't quite the right word for what I'd felt. her? Okay then. How about Fitz... or Sylphie, rather? What did I think of To be honest, I wanted to take some time to think it over carefully. I wanted to double-check my own thoughts, and work out a clear, precise answer. But unless I gave her an answer right now... she would probably disappear on me, like Eris had.

Now that's a fun thought. Nanahoshi doesn't have mana here because she's in a body that was from the other world. So if Rudy in his current body was transported back to our version of Japan then would he still have mana because he's in a body from that world? Pretty cool idea.

I think he can still use magic, but there is no way to replenish the mana in his body because there is no mana in our world. Then he won't be able to wake up again after using up the mana

The problem is in our world there's no mana particle at all. So even Rudy who has largest mana pool in the Six Faced World, he might not be able to replenish his mana due to mana doesn't exist I mentioned earlier.

You guys are giving this story the thought and respect it deserves. I see so many reactors treat this like it's a garbage run of the mill iseki with a disgusting protagonist. If they were to actually step back and analyze they would see some of, if not, the best story telling in anime I have ever seen. And I dont care for isekais or action/fighting animes and I hate loser protagonists. But the character development, the world building, the storytelling, even the art and music are all top class. This world and story feels so real and interesting.

Yes this series is amazing and I've watched over 40 reaction series of it. At least 35 of those seem to also love it like just as much or almost as much as Autosave. I think the hate it gets is mostly the quiet minority. In some cases I see it as projecting. Far more people seem to like this series than hate it. So I'm glad. Rudy is winning in some anime popularity polls so that is pretty awesome. I mean Rudy himself is winning. Got male top 1 several times recently.
