At the end of a 20 year study the Forest Service conducted, the "pulled" Chanterelle plots, yielded slightly larger harvest than the "cut" plots.

Here on the East Coast, we have beautiful orange chanterelles (most not nearly as meaty as the ones you found!). I have also found a lion's mane once. This was a lovely informative video. You guys are lucky to live in mushroom country!

Nice video! Do you eat the mooshroms raw or do you cook them? Thanks.

We live in Eastern Wa at a high elevation on 20 acres of woods, mostly Douglas fir and a few pines. I’ve been out a few times looking for chanterelles but come up empty handed. I didn’t find any morels earlier in the year either. I do bring back ticks tho. I have did find a few very small puffball mushroom about a week ago, but I left them to grow or be eaten by wildlife. Oh yeah, I’ve read somewhere awhile back that it’s the mycelium that’s has the best health properties for us not the actual yummy mushroom itself. Do you have any wisdom you’ve gleaned on the subject to share? Also, I like to ferment foods and have a sourdough starter in my kitchen, so bringing wild fungi into my kitchen will be a good thing?

At 4:55 of the video I hear a classic everyday one liner. It goes something like this, "Dont be ripping cocks off of trees to make your own medicine". LOL!!

Don't listen about not picking mushrooms in abundance. You're spreading them more every time you do.

what did he say about pact forests or impact forests where you can only find Chanterelle mushrooms? I am not sure if i heard him right.

B Charron Chanterelle's grow with LIVING trees, not dead. So you will need to look in a living flourishing wooded area

courtneybrad Thank you! I heard they grow mostly around oaks as well as maples mixed with Beech, but I am not sure about the maples with beech trees? Thanks!
@courtneybrad9 жыл бұрын
B Charron No problem...they like conifers but beech also.
@charronfamilyconnect6 жыл бұрын
Update, you are right they really like the conifers as I discovered. In this video near the end I see a whole lot of Hemlocks. I found many of my chants next to Hemlocks. I am still trying to find the black trumpets but have had no luck lately. At the end of the fall last year, I found a forest full of maples and mature beeches. I am going to target that area this summer in hopes of finding some black trumpets which I read are the earlier summer mushrooms that usually come up sooner than the regular golden chants.

Sorry that one liner comes at the 4:53 mark. Pretty interesting quote. I have often referred to my manhood as a shroom, but not usually in the reverse order like this mycologist subconsciously declares. LOL!!
