This video shows mushroom hunting of the following mushroom species: Cep / King bolete / Penny bun (Boletus edulis), Bay bolete (Imleria badia), Birch bolete (Leccinum scabrum), Orange birch bolete (Leccinum versipelle), Funnel chanterelle (Craterellus tubaeformis) and Matte bolete (Xerocomellus pruinatus). It was recorded on 8th October 2022 in Czechia, Europe.

Thanks. Yes I'm sure the first one is Boletus edulis, not Boletus pinophilus. Although it would be great if there were pine boletes in that forest too :)

hey Luke, do you ever done craterellus lutescens near where you find craterellus tubaeformis? I tend to find them in the same area, but maybe they are a north American species? both are delicious! I've never found a matte bolete- those are beautiful! thanks for the videos buddy!

Thanks for the comment. Matte bolete is a nice autumn mushroom, but I value it less than bay boletes :) Those I value more than ceps. But all of them are nice. About Craterellus lutescens, I think we have them too, but I'm not sure if I would be able to distinguish them. Usually I don't pay much attention to these mushrooms.

@@LukesMushrooms they look almost identical to funnel chanterelles but instead of the typical chanterelle gills, they are just wrinkly almost without any Gill structure at all. They are just as delicious! I have never found a bay bolete. We don't get too many porcini mushrooms around here either. I think I might have found 10 this year. Take care my friend

Not really, at least here in central Europe it is a very common mushroom to find :)

Hi Luke, amazing video, it's a pleasure to watch as always. And your knowledge is remarkable. Question, Any particular difference between bay and matte bollete, as to the untrained eye the seem quite similar. Also, what made you not like the colour on certain Bay bollete, any dangerous lookalikes? I'm sorry for asking, and thank you for sharing. :)

Good questions :) The top side of bay bolete's hat is always brown and more glossy. Matte bolete can have gray or almost black hat sometimes even with purple tones and it is much more matte. The bay bolete's flesh is basically white while matte bolete's flesh is yellow. And they also have different smell. Once you have both in hand it's quite easy to learn the differences :) About the bay bolete's color, the bottom side of hat was unusually orange / brown while it should be pale / yellow. So I assumed the mushroom can be infected by mold or damaged by low temperatures, therefore not good to eat.

Thanks for the quick answer! - I'm from Denmark and in multiple of my mushroom groups on Facebook there’s been discussions whether you should cut the "yellow parts" away and it would be fine to consume OR you were to discard the whole mushroom. Maybe I'm mixing up some names, sorry. Could also be H. Chrysospermus.

Ok, thanks for explaining. Now I know what you mean and I agree that if a part of the mushroom has visible white / yellow mold on it, it's better to discard the whole mushroom and not cut those parts out. However, in this case I believe it was something else, as it was at the bottom of the stem and inside, so I assumed it was caused by some insect. The infections you mentioned usually start on the hat and on the outer side of the mushroom and then gradually covering it more and more. Anyway, I don't consider myself as an expert and I still need to learn, so if you have better information about his, I'll be glad to hear.

I’ve tried to find more information, but there’s is much to none about it online.
