Do they have to be dry to eat them ?
@LukesMushroomsКүн бұрын
Usually you don't want them to be dry when picking them. You can dehydrate them afterwards, but still mushrooms need rehydration before cooking and eating.

The morels you found where the cap doesn't close at the stem are false morels. Are they safe to eat? From what I've read/heard they will make you sick.
@LukesMushrooms5 күн бұрын
Those are Verpa bohemica and the opinions about them may vary. Here they are still considered as edible, but there are known cases of intolerance or allergy which some people may have. However, there are other species known as "False morels", which are really dangerous, for example Gyromitra esculenta.
@Alex-qx1sq5 күн бұрын
I don't know the scientific names. I'm sure you know more than I do about mushrooms. I just know what friends and family have told me and was always told if the Cap doesn't close at the stem don't pick them. That's why I asked.
@LukesMushrooms4 күн бұрын
I understand. That's a good advice and following it is a safe bet. It's not worth to pick & eat mushrooms you are not 100% sure about.

Hello Luke , what temperature is it in your area the time you ve found the mushrooms ?
@LukesMushrooms11 күн бұрын
Hello. In the past 2 weeks before these finds, it was almost summer weather with temperatures above 20°C during the day, but nights could still be quite cold. Also the yellow morels are from a bit warmer area than the early morels.

Do you ever find spiders in the morel crevices? They seem more firm than squishy, do the dark ones taste different?
@LukesMushrooms23 күн бұрын
I think I would need a direct comparison there - I actually don't eat them often. I dehydrated these and saved for later. About spiders, sometimes you can find them or other insect too, but they usually escape once you start moving the mushroom.
