Those are elm trees ya can always tell by the way that root system buttress at the bottoms. They definitely have a symbiotic relationship with the trees. Sycamore trees on river/creek bottoms with Privet bushes is great place also. Sycamore are the ones that are white barked. Looked to be a lot of qwaking aspen

Yeah it’s still too cold here in northern Ohio, lows have been in the 20s and 30s. Probably won’t be up for a month or so unless it warms up quick

I used to freeze my extras but now I dry them on screens. They reconstitute nicely by soaking in warm salt water. I heard that freeze drying is the best way to go but freeze dryers are costly.

What county are you in and when did you find them? We’re searching our woods in licking county around our ash trees and finding nothing. It’s been super wet lately and there is a lot of green in the woods but we’re finding zero luck this year. Have we missed our window or is there hope that more will be coming?

Our trees are more filled out than yours and there’s a lot more plant life growth in our woods. The leaves in your woods sounds so much drier than ours. .

Defiance county, I just found over 100 more today, some fresh some old. Temps have been highs in the 50s lows in the upper 30s so I think it’s prolonging our season.

I’d imagine you could still find them. Some might be old but some should still be edible

I think most of those are actually associated with the smaller trees. That first big tree was an oak, folks don’t agree what trees to check but oak and maple are basically never associated with morels as far as I know. I definitely saw a shag bark hickory behind you when picking, could be them, hard to say but it’s probably not the oak. Also if they’re growing on the trunk or right at the base then it’s likely the roots of other trees all running together… but I’m no pro, and they’re mysterious little buggers

Well… after watching more, I don’t know, those sure look like big black oaks, and you’re definitely find loads of morels around them… awesome spot either way… you picked more off a single tree than I find all day in central KY

Well this video was from my best year ever so we will see in a few weeks if these spots produce similarly.
