I never subscribed to a channel until I have watched a few videos. But as a mushroom forager, in the South Willamette valley. And as someone who was stationed at Bangor, and later at the naval hospital. I am absolutely giddy to find your channel. We too have been having a wonderful November. I have a spot at about 2000 ft where you can't walk 3 ft without finding a shrimp roseola or a chanterelle. Look forward to seeing what you do next.

Just moved out here from Indiana and west into the woods a bit, found some coral and other mushrooms, this video really helped with seeing how the chantrel and lobster mushrooms kind of hide underneath the leaves. was going to add a a couple of pics cause not sure what the white ones on the stump are. Thanks for video.

You should mention that if there's a mushroom you like or want more of around, while out you can use the fruit bodies to make new or bigger areas were the mushrooms are. Like oysters any part of the mushrooms can be tore apart into small pieces and used to put into holes made in fallen logs or trees. Certain trees work better than others, other mushrooms can be broken up into pieces and tossed In areas with similar environments. I find this works very well with most fungi ive tried it with. A point to science is to simplify and make easier isn't it? For the next season. plan ahead it helps.

Aaron you are so very good at educating! Me at least. Living in your nearby area helps, since Whidbey has nearly identical weather the Kitsap zone. I imagine most everyone can learn from you regardless of their location. Just saying. Thank you for your good work and perseverance. Thanks for introducing me to the many other sources of information in the micological field of education. So much more than I’d ever imagined And.. thanks for being a good dog dad to Gunnar. Once in a while my dog “Doc” gets a glance of him and tunes in to viewing an otherwise boring( to him) KZbin video. He is the best mushroom hunting partner. He knows what we are after for the most part and is very excited when i show excitement for his finds. Thanks Aaron for another educational and inspiring vid. I just got back from 2.5 weeks in S. Africa (not many mushrooms there RN) and am out in my local Olympia woods now - watching you on phone in one hand, picking with the other lol. Back to my happy place! Finding some nice bellybutton hedgehogs, tired lobsters, turkey tails, fresh chantys and some beautiful creamy white coral (tastiest ramaria IMHO). Went out by Matlock yesterday and couldn’t believe the absolute SEA of (mostly beyond prime) chantys. But still got a big batch of nice firm ones. Time to start stocking up on them for freezer and freeze dryer while there are still plenty in good shape.

Aaron-thanks so much for all your work and everything you’ve produced here! I love your content, and have learned so much! Such a fascinating part of nature and ecology! QUESTION: is there anything about gilled mushrooms that inherently makes them more dangerous than non-gilled mushrooms? Why might someone feel that they should automatically avoid all gilled mushrooms and that they are safer because they do? I’d love it if you could point me to a solid source for this, or if it’s easier to explain. I’m curious, as a friend and fellow forager keeps bringing this up, but doesn’t provide a source.
@wingnutbert968513 күн бұрын
Grocery store mushrooms are gilled.........I'd say that says it all about that. The only mushroom that isn't dangerous to eat is the one you KNOW is safe to eat.

If you drive on Hobart/Issaquah road toward Maple Valley, just a short drive past Hobart store, you can go left in front of a firestation on the left, and that road leads to trails and mushrooms. Just ride it until you've gone uphill and down a bit and you see a place that will either have horse trailers or parking big enough for that. Your trails are across the street from trailer parking and places to park on the side of the road. Pretty quiet most times.

Hey, not to worry societal shifts and progress towards a more naturally connected world takes generations if not longer. It is unlikely that we will experience the fruit of this change in our lifetime, however the stone has been set in motion and there is no stopping it. Do you prefer to clear the gills off before cooking the Shimp Rus' or do you leave them? I've not tried them yet, but the gills seem like they'd be kinda messy to include since they break off so easy and wouldn't look nice.
@mushroomwonderland14 күн бұрын
@@wingnutbert9685 The couple times that I have cooked them I made a breakfast hash with them, so the gills didn't bother me. But it's not a bad idea because they are pretty brittle and flake apart everywhere.
