This is so great! I teach a career class to 9th graders, and I am showing this today for my "do-now," as us teachers say. So many want to be artists, but no one knows the background stuff. I'm showing them a lot of tech and hard skills jobs and teaching them that everything overlaps. Be an electrician and make 3x what I'm making! You love music? Put them together! Thank you, I'm going to use more of these moving forward.

It´s my dream to work Backstage at a Concert, or in a BandCrew. But I don´t know how to get into that Business, because I am German and I don´t know which jobs fits for me. I really love the technical part but also I love managing...

HI Char lotte, Here is the answer I gave to Giovana below. I think it fits your situation as well. "Being German or living in Germany should not limit you as well. In fact I think there are is a vibrant concert culture there (when Covid is over) My advise would be almost identical to what I would give to a musician. Start by volunteering and building a portfolio. As your skill builds, someone will ask you to design something for them. When someone asks you to do work you need to charge. If you ask an artists to work with them you need to volunteer (at first)."

I always love lights as a kid. I found my calling to hopefully go into stage lighting. Edit: The calling is doing it for Christian Artists. Also thanks for the heart.

could you make a video on the qualities of a good concert

I'm so glad I found this video, it cleared so many doubts I had, thanks!! I truly aspire for a concert promoter role, right now I´m just researching and preparing myself for it. Is there any advice you could give me to get in touch with event organizers or people that can mentor me on this field during the pandemic?

Hi Mayra! I am very happy this video was helpful to you. I would look at companies that are live streaming right now. Sadly live streaming funerals is a very busy business right now, as well as weddings and other corporate events. Production companies are also doing drive in shows. Search google and social media in your area and find these events and then volunteer to help. Let me know how it goes.

This video was so helpful but I was wondering if you had any tips for getting into the music business in terms of touring and events? Where should someone start?
@SmithMediaSolutions4 жыл бұрын
Hi Carmen. I am very happy you found this useful. Most people I know that wanted to get into events did it by volunteering. The volunteers that are willing to do the non glamorous work and treat it like a real job rise above the rest. I have people that volunteer along side me frequently. The ones that show themselves as dependable and have great common sense are the ones that eventually end up getting a call for the paid gigs. I hope that helps.

@@SmithMediaSolutions How do you start volunteering? Do you just go to small local shows and ask to help out? Or should you contact someone and ask about volunteering?
@SmithMediaSolutions4 жыл бұрын
@@idkhow Great question! I would do both of these things. Remember, when you are asking to volunteer the band or production company has a lot to loose. If you damage gear it could cost them a lot of money. Work to build friendships with bands and production companies and they will be a lot more willing to let you volunteer. I get asked by a lot of people to volunteer and most fall off after a few hours or disappear before ever volunteering. That is what most people you are asking to volunteer with will expect. It doesn;t take much to rise above. Best of luck!

@@SmithMediaSolutions cool! if its a tiny local venue show, do I just go up to the sound guys and ask if they need help before/after shows? Or how exactly should I go about it? Im trying to get involved with the local music scene and hopefully eventually gain a relation to be able to work in it since I haven't gone to college. Trying to aim for a point of being told to go to gigs that are happening and get paid for it if possible
@SmithMediaSolutions4 жыл бұрын
@@idkhow Yes. Go to the show, hang around, be useful, don't ask to get paid, don't get in the way and the right engineer at the right time will say thank you and may give you a call. When someone calls you to work it is appropriate to ask for money.

Great video but I think you may have forgot about the entertainment truck drivers, it could be from a single truck tour to several dozen trucks. We also have a very tight schedule I'm getting to the gear loaded on the road and delivered very early morning hours on an overnighter run Anyway just wanted to point that out love your video thank you

Hi! Just wondering for hospitality. Do they do all the things you listed under it (hotels, green room ,etc)?
@SmithMediaSolutions4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. I am assuming by "they" you mean the venue. When a band gets to a certain level then yes the purchaser is contracted to do all the things I mentioned. I hope that helps:)

this video is really helpfull, just subscribed!! also, i'm a graphic designer and my dream (if that's not too cheesy lol) is to work with artist merchandise design. do you have any tips of how i could start getting envolved in this area? thank you for the content! :)

Thanks so much for subscribing! I very much appreciate it and I am glad you found this helpful. My advise would be almost identical to what I would give to a musician. Start by volunteering and building a portfolio. As your skill builds, someone will ask you to design something for them. When someone asks you to do work you need to charge. If you ask an artists to work with them you need to volunteer (at first). Also, why would you limit yourself to artists merch? I would assume that artists social media, merch, promo materials, backdrops, band logos etc. would all be reasonable avenues that would give you a more diverse income stream. I hope that is useful:)

@@27twilkes For that type of job you'll be creating it. It is not an advertised position. I would start by volunteering around festivals to get experience and get to know people.
