In Ace Combat Zero funnily enough: ZERO HOURS because it came out on a platform i did not have. I only played Air Combat, AC 2 - 5, ignored 6 and plan to start 7 at some point in the near future (blasphemous, i know). Combined i probably have around 200h in the AC games overall. Most hours overall in Ace Combat 5, as i love me some RAZGRIZ action and have the enemy run in terror when they hear of my squadron. Hearing enemy chatter over the radio is so good when they start fearing you more and more over the course of that game. I still believe my Razgriz can beat Mobius One aka JETPLANE JESUS. I wonder what other AC fans think wich AC pilot is the strongest?

Zero is indeed, an extremely heavy song, but it has to be. It plays during a HUGELY stressful and emotionally loaded moment. The wingman that's been with you for the past few mission just got shot down, slain in combat. By the very same wingman you started the game with, who checks up on you after every battle and calls you buddy, the first person to respect you and who defended you and your actions, regardless of which way you chose to go (you can attack non-combatants for extra money, which some react poorly to, but your wingman will defend your actions by explaining logical reasons for why you'd choose to do that). This man was your friend, and he defected after witnessing a nuclear detonation right in front of you, even going as far as sending messages to check on you while you were still working for the military. And now he's your enemy. Worse than that, if you don't stop him, if you don't shoot him down and kill him, the world is fucked. A nuclear missile powerful enough to wipe out most of the civilized world was launched, and is in the process of reentry. It is this heavy, with a ton of overlapping elements, because it represents just how much is going on at the time at which it is played. In many ways, it represents what the player himself is going through and their journey up to this point.

Zero is definitely my most favorite Ace Combat song. In the end, Zero is a BGM for fast paced air battle video game and it's played on one of the most climatic moment (final battle against Pixy iinm), so it have to be bombastic and high tension to the point of overloading our senses.
@Cousin_Uli Жыл бұрын
This song rocks because it's this wild culmination of a thematic trinary between the military rock sounds with that electric skittering, brass, and drums, classical with the choir and strings, and then flamenco. In game there's this grading system that ranks your behavior as either Soldier, Knight, or Mercenary based on how you play, and here in the climax of the story it all comes to "Zero" and all 3 of these really distinct soundscapes are combined into one.
@misterbin00 Жыл бұрын
While the final battle in which this plays is an epic, decisive battle where the fate of the world is at stake, it is also an emotional 1 vs 1 duel with your ex-wingman turned enemy, so mixing up with flamenco seems so fitting

Ace Combat 0 is a somewhat modern setting, it's set in the fictional world of the Strangereal but in its version of 1995... Where it is currently experiencing the equivalent of WW2. The game is a huge web of themes and ideas but in short, this song is for the final duel against your old wingman. He's seen and participated in the horror of war firsthand and lost all hope in humanity, leading to him forming a group that plans to nuke the planet back into the stone age. Restart from "Zero"

I love this song. It has elements of different songs from other AC games. The male voices for example are singing the hymn of Razgriz or "The Unsung War" from AC5. Every Ace Combat Game Soundtrack have their own identity, and this flamenco style is the Zero one. To set the tone, this is the track from the very final mission of the game, a dogfight between the player and the most memorable character (imo) in the series. In my opinion, what's most impressive is *when*. Ace Combat Zero is from 2006 and has this amazing track. Ace Combat 4 is from 2001 and has a very good OST too, also is the one who set the soundtrack tradition with Megalith. Before other Ace Combat games, I really suggest for Megalith to be checked first. It's three (or four) tracks meant to be played in sequence: Rex Tremendae (Very short introduction track) Megalith -Agnus Dei- (Loops through the mission) Heaven's Gate (The "heroic moment" and wrap up) Victory (Optional, if you consider the victory theme part of the track) Everyone who reacts to Megalith forgets about Heaven's Gate for lack of information.

Don't forget about Project Wingman - it nailed not only a gameplay of Ace Combat. Peacekeeper II + intro is probably my favourite from there. And I also think it's unfair Ace Combat 2 soundtrack is also often forgotten - it might be not so epic and lacks the production quality, but there are bangers anyway, Night and Day is pure magic with so much going on in there... P.S. Ace Combat 3 OST is also really good, but let's be real - it only complements the gameplay and doesn't really lands a hit on its own, unless you're a hardcore electronic music fan.

I was a kid when I first played this game and the impression this song and the battle it accompanies has never left me. To set the scene: it's the final mission. You, as a mercenary, have been hired to stop a nuclear attack from taking place. You arrive, do what you can to prevent it but despite your efforts the nuke is ultimately launched. The only way to stop it? Destroy the plane that's commanding it, piloted by your former wingman who you spent most of the game with, who left you during a previous defensive nuclear strike you were both witness to The plane he's piloting is a technologically advanced weapon of mass destruction in its own right, fitted with state of the art jamming technology and a powerful laser cannon. Its only weak point? The very front. To even make a dent in it, you have to face it head-on like you're jousting, dancing around each other vying to be the one who truimphs To say this mission and this song blew my mind back then is an understatement. Every time I listen to this song it's like I'm back there for the first time, no matter how many years pass and times I replay the game

The lyrics in the choral parts of "Zero" are actually a cameo from a song featured in the game that came before ACZ, Ace Combat 5, called "Unsung War". They're actually in Latin and the singers are overlapping the first two verses of the song over one another (in what is probably a symbolic representation of the fight between the Player Character and his Old Wingman). *Latin:* Cum historia mutat valde Razgriz revelat ipsum: Primum daemon scelestus est. Cum potentia Sua Daemon fundet mortem in terram: Deinde moritur. *English:* When history witnesses a great change Razgriz reveals itself first, as a dark demon With his power The Demon rains death upon the land: then the Demon dies at last. In context with Ace Combat 5, the full poem of Razgriz is a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy about a warrior that initially fights for a destructive cause and is slain for it, but then arises from the ashes of their defeat with wisdom to be a true hero and protector of good, one that if people squint their eyes at the plot of Ace Combat will notice the motif showing up more than once following the release of AC5.

Keiki Kobayashi does a lot strings work with his music, it adds an incredible amount of gravitas to the soundtrack. There’s very few instances of Ace Combat music that has high-octane rock that one would associate with fighter nets (Comona being the perfect example of this). Ace Combat Zero has many “knight” motifs, including multiple references to Arthurian legend. In the last battle, which Zero is the theme for, you are dogfighting with an enemy airplane with a power jamming system that can jam any missiles fired at it-except for those launched at the plane from its front. In essence, the last battle has you “jousting” with another plane like knights of old. Now as an Ace Combat fan who used to be good enough to _sequence the boss battle to the music,_ let me set the setting for this song (these timings will NOT match this video, go find Zero and go there): The song begins. You face off against the enemy ace. Words are exchanged, missiles are launched, battle commences. 1:03 the ace explains himself, gives you his philosophy during the battle, explains WHY he did what he did during the game: he was a major character that up until certain events was _your wingman._ 1:50 “It’s time.” A hatch in the enemy base opens up and a ballistic missile is launched, a missile which can hit every capitol city on the continent, and his fighter has the control device. He has also activated a powerful electronic countermeasure in his plane: missiles will be almost impossible to score hits on. Almost. Your AWACS tells you that they found a weak point in his ECM: it protects from everywhere but the front. You will have to attack him with head-on attacks, and as you are -as in-game events will have dubbed you-the “Demon of the Round Table,” you’re the only one who can do this. 2:58 And so do two knights of the sky charge forth and joust with missile and cannon fire, bout for bout, blow for blow, until the enemy ace’s plane takes a direct hit and is blown from the sky. The control device for the ballistic missile is destroyed, the missile self-destructs, and the day is saved until the next Ace Combat game.

I like seeing completely fresh takes like this. However, part of me wishes someone would sit through the the games as intended, because this piece hits so much harder within that context. The main leitmotif of Ace Combat Zero is the first soloist's performance at 3:36. That's woven in and out of various mission themes, menus, and cinematics in the game itself. The game is also a prequel to the previous game, Ace Combat 5, which of course has its own leitmotif woven throughout its soundtrack. At 7:10 the full choir comes in, and they're singing a modified version of the Ace Combat 5 leitmotif, which is a call-back (call-forward?) and ties the two games together. It's a very thoughtfully composed piece.

Something I feel like people overlook in this song is that the game has one central core to it's mechanics: Ace Style. You mentioned that the start feels very 'military-y', but there's that hint of flamenco in there. That's the Soldier Style of gameplay. When it picks up with the flamenco sound, we see a shift of the character into the Mercenary Style, whereas when the voice returns at the final part, we see the shift into the Knight Style. Since in the game, it goes from Mercenary - Soldier - Knight in the slider, we always start the game in the Soldier style, and drift accordingly. In this fight, we see that our OPPONENT shifts from Soldier to Mercenary to Knight, and we have to follow his rhythm. After all, this song is essentially paired with what could be called a mid-air jousting match.

Ace Combat Zero is about mercenary pilots fighting in a large war in the 1980s of an alternate universe. The gameplay aspects definitely emphasized the dueling involved in a dogfight, much like how two partners in a dance work off of each others' motions. The music really emphasized that, and the layering with the varied stories of all the different ace pilots interviewed through the course of the game pushed that point home. It's definitely an excellent series to look into for some fantastic music that pushes story telling through sound.

The music in Ace Combat usually really helps brings out the story of the series. Ace Combat Zero takes place in a similar time period of the 90s of our Earth. To sum up a lot of information the jist of the story is wars have always happened and this one they were fighting really just didn't feel like there was right or wrong at times. You fight as a mercenary with your buddy solo wing pixy and over time they begin to question both sides. A lot of the veterans from different countries break off and go awol after the main enemy country belka detenates several nukes in their own country to stop the "allies" advance into their country. Your ex wingman and other ace pilots starts a organization dedicated to stop more wars by getting rid of political powers. Their ultimate plan was to launch an ultimate nuke aimed at the capitals of all the nations to give the world a fresh start. After several hours of intense fighting you make it to the facility and you take out the controls of the weapon. While flying back your ex wingman kills your new one and this starts the finale battle between you and him as he all along had the controls of the super nuke weapon on his new craft which was a secret war weapons. Top of the line state of the art fighter plane. The music plays as you have an intense dogfight to stop him from basically destroying the known world all the while he is talking to you and the typical reasons why he is right but also knowning that you his buddy is the only one really capable of stopping him. The soundtrack is telling this story in its own way. I really wish they would remake this game or at the least make an animation. The story was good.

I really recommend you to react to the soundtrack of Gravity Rush, which is a gorgeous game with gorgeous music composed by Kohei Tanaka (the composer of One Piece's music), and it also has a super unique and beautiful orchestral vibe. That is the most underrated modern game I know, because it's not very popular, and also didn't go quite well in sales, which means that not a lot of people would recommend you to listen to it, but here I am😂. If you read this, pleas give it a try. I promise you'll be delighted by the beauty of it, and I would be so happy if you do a reaction video. You could listen first to the piece "Old Town" or "Discovery of Gravitation" Have a great day man, mad respect for you🤝🏽👑

Scream and Rage may be my favorite AC song for the action, but Zero is just so barely behind it for the emotion.

Speaking of ZERO You're next beatbox reaction should be to Zer0. He's one of the best percussive beatboxers in the world, if not the absolute best.

I like the flamingo mix in this but I still think (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWmQd6GCf92chqssi=-A3hLpZA7UQZsUrU) is the best flamingo combo I have heard. The flamingo music is very passive/aggressive so it fits well in any dance with the death -battle. Never played the game, but as you said, the music gives the sense of retro aerial dog fight in the planes from the flight-shows and they are doing some acrobatics maneuvers in a flaming sunset. I getting some great scenes in my head.
