The Godfather 1 & 2, Goodfellas, Casino. As a reference Manners was the 9th song of this 2 hour online streamed concert and Black Hole was the 21st and next to last song. Just putting Black Hole in your setlist is impressive but putting it next to last and nailing it! Two great contrasting songs. The groovy bluesy Manners is one of my favorites then for the Live they add that cool intro (which Band-Maid loves to do). Take a peek at the Manners MV (a bit fuller sound for some reason).

Bad brains used to be my top band, because they were versatile and the drummer was interesting and amazing, now bandmaid is my no.1 because they are versatile, creative and Akane's drumming is creative, versatile, interesting = the pure joy. But of course it's all the different ingredients creating the amazing art that keeps intriguing me.

Pulp Fiction, Godfather 1 and 2 and Apocalypse Now would all vie for most watched but the winner would have to be 'Eat, Drink, Man, Woman', an early Ang Lee film.

Congrats! About "Black Hole". Believe me, at first many people didn’t believe they could play it live. But they did it easily. If you can I think you can listen to the studio version because Akane's "footwork" isn't really audible here.

More than any other reactor, you seem to instantly grasp the magnificence of BLACK HOLE. It gets better with repeated listening. The best part is the “musical theater” vocal interlude near the end. MANNERS impresses with how this simple song starts slowly with a super-groovy drum and bass duet (not found on the studio recording), and then the musical intensity builds with each verse until it reaches a wonderful crescendo. KOBATO and SAIKI create wonderful harmonies in both songs, and as a lead vocalist SAIKI is incomparable.

Manners- Classic blues rock fusion, 1969-71. Black Hole- Hard rock/metal. Subject- astrophysics. Genre- Band-Maid. All lyrics by Miku (red rose). The tuning of Akane's drums are to die for. That was a great reaction/analyses! Really enjoyed you going back and pointing out various things a non-musician, like myself, wouldn't overtly notice. You're right about not being able to pick up on everything happening on the first listen. There's just so much going on it's impossible. Every song they put out is at least as dense as a 5 layer cake. All 5 members are always doing something interesting, and Kanami manages to blend it all together perfectly. Doesn't matter if it's controlled chaos (Black Hole) or bluesy, funk rock (Manners), BAND-MAID can play it all!

Misa's understanding of the bass is pretty unreal, she knows when to pick, when to slap and when to finger style and she knows how to do it very well, like pro level. And to answer your question, Goodfellas. I was obsessed with that movie, just the way it was made and how from even before the credits start all the way to the end is just so interesting and so entertaining and the constant halarious profanity, just so much fun to watch. Edit: that way you described black hole was actually pretty accurate in a metaphorical way. Song is all over the place but in a fun and exciting way.

I've heard both songs numerous times and yet you've pointed out some details I didn't catch the first 100 times. Also, you're delivery and descriptions are of high end quality. After doing more BM I hope you connect with some of my other favourite reactors such as Ryan Mear, Wave Potter and Dicodec. These reactors have become BM fanatics and their banter is fun to watch. I think you'd fit right in with them. More BM suggestions- try Real Existence (a hard rock banger) live and Onset ( an instrumental masterpiece) live. Cheers from Canada

Two sides of the multi-faceted jewel that is Band-Maid. Obi-Wan Kanami's composing skills are Mozart level and Miku's lyrics are up there with Lennon/McCartney or Dylan in levels of depth and meaning. Then you've got the best rhythm section I've seen (and I've seen Bonham and JPJ, Moon and Entwistle and Bruce and Baker) and a vocalist who sings with real passion and emotion and who can move through 3 octaves with ease ('Wonderland' live 2020, a Saiki showcase - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmXLqX-bfcekkNE ). Apparently, so the story goes, 'Black Hole' was a challenge by Kanami to Akane, after asking her if she could manage 200 BPM and Akane replying "Hold my beer..." or something similar, which was when Kanami upped the ante to 220 BPM...to which Akane probably replied "Hold my other beer. I may need two hands for that." Apocryphal but maybe (mostly) true.

@@DrumRollTonyReacts It was more a comment about her being as good as someone I think of as composing the most intricate and beautiful music ever but I totally see what you're saying - different levels of composition and content. There are a couple of short orchestral openings that Kanami has written (for the songs Warning! and Sense, for instance) but writing a ' Deus Irae' or 'Der Hölle Rache kocht in meinem Herzen' is probably beyond even her high skills. Always wondered what Mozart would have made of the electric guitar and modern keyboards! Thanks for liking Kanami's new name!. I'm very happy that you enjoyed Black Hole. It can be a very challenging piece, because even if the feel and pace is right up their with their typical punk/metal style, gone are the hooky choruses and happy melodies, replaced with the frantic orchestrated chaos that evokes the image of a well-seasoned crew attempting to navigate a black hole. And it seriously paints that picture, even using musical cues from classic sci-fi. I've seen a lot of reactors miss the imagery entirely, but given your prior reactions I was pretty confident you'd instantly be able to get what they were doing.

There is definitely a Band-Maid sound and the composition is so consistently great that it's hard to believe sometimes. Recs for next: if you like the more prog side of Band-Maid then check out more of their recent full album Unseen World (most of its album tracks are on their official site, so fair game for reactors--Giovanni, H.G.K., I Still Seek Revenge, etc.). Manners is SUCH a great song for a live performance with a crowd that knows the song well and joins in with Miku's ha-ha-ha-ha exactly on cue. It is very different than any of their other songs but that bluesy feel is just perfect when you factor in the lyrics. I kind of feel that Black Hole is composer Kanami's great work. She puts all her virtuoso crazy ideas into one swirling, overwhelming song -- and while you are reeling from the intensity, Saiki calls out "Are you ready? Let's go!" You mean, we weren't already going top speed? This is concentrated Band Maid -- straight after you groove to their funky blues Manners. They make a perfect pair to show off the versatility of Band-Maid -- they do blues, they do thrash, and in other songs you will see they also do acoustic ... But go watch Gion-cho (by their alter ago Band-Maiko) for yet another side to their brilliance.

These girls are amazing best rock and roll I've ever heard and I'm 66 there are all one and they don't take no BS and if you don't understand their words they play it through their instruments that's the way they roll. Please listen to their words they are a movement.. you go girls! Band made forever listen to the words dude not the music

@@DrumRollTonyReacts well that's really what got me listening to him too at first. I'm all about them jamming like they do they are so tight. To me there's not one leader on this band they're all leaders. But now that it's been 5 years that I've been listening to them. And I've seen every one of their videos. I'm just amazed at what they're actually capable of doing. And what they mean

Band-Maid. Genre: We won't be pigeon holed. Enjoy the discovery. One thing to note is you can hear a song multiple times and still pick out little things you didn't notice before, EDIT: I'm sitting here smirking at the end of Manners where you're talking about it not sounding like the other songs. Hehehehe.... (The pick isn't gone. She tucks it under her finger) Don't forget to stop analyzing and just enjoy

Bad thing about these songs is that there was no audience. You could tell their energy was down. This version of Manners sounds nothing like the studio version energy wise. Manners is a killer tune. Highly recommend Real Existence live. Have a great day brother

Band Maid is a wonderful ride! My suggestions for getting a feel for their awesome diversity are: 'Thrill' MV (first hit MV, so, in the beginning...), Band-Maiko 'Gion-Cho' (adds some traditional elements), 'Onset' (Instrumental). 'Daydreaming' (more of a ballad), and any of their acoustics. Honorable mentions to 'Rinne', 'Moratorium', 'About Us', and anything Misa or Miku heavy. This is a deep well. Drink your fill.

Akane, the drummer, actually writes or scribes notes on paper for her parts so she can sing or hum them. Knew it?

So nice to see such appreciation for The Maids. Probably the best analysis of Black Hole in particular. Manners is a great MV. (Warning is even better). You'll learn to understand just how good these ladies are when you discover more of their catalogue. For the last 5 years, it's been Kanami's magic that's brought this wonderful music to the world. The word Genius is thrown around a lot but doesn't have the true meaning. You can definitely apply that title to Kanami. She is really is a master in the world of musical art. Yes so complex and so skillful. A great reader with a degree in economics shows her brilliance in both fields. The song composing is really quite amazing and the changes in Black Hole really is quite unique. But that's art of composing. Creating something unique that's never been heard before. I recommend you listen to Hibana for it's complexity and intricacies.

As far as Black Hole is concerned, you see that big smile on Akane's face, she loves this tempo. This was Kanami's speed challenge to Akane, she asked how fast can you go - about 190 said Akane so Kanami came back with 220

Yeah, I heard (and it's probably not true but ...) when Kanami said '220' Akane said "I can't play that' and Kanami just said "&1&2&3&4"!!

It took me many listens to snuggle up to Black Hole but as I hear more talented musicians, like yourself< break it down it gets better and better. At first it was total CHAOS!! Not it's becoming another Masterpiece of musical talent.....DAMN these girls can kick some ass with precision....

Both songs are great. Manners is a straight bluesy, kinda funky old school rocker. Black Hole is just a different, frenetic, chaotic, beast of a song. To be honest, I feel emotionally and mentally fatigued after listening to Black Hole. Akane, the drummer, said Black Hole is her most challenging and best drumming to date. The singers, at times, use their voices as instrumental fills. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it, maybe it’s like traveling through a Black Hole. Good review. There are many more great songs from Band Maid, in fact, I have yet to come across even a mediocre song from the ladies...they’re the best band going.
