I had the pleasure of meeting the singer in person when I was freelancing as a translator and I told her directly I love her Hibike Euphonium song. I'll never forget that day.

Wow that is epic. I am jealous. how long have you been a translator?

I only work as a translator for a couple of years. I'm in a different line of work now, even tho I still understand Japanese.

I overheard her rehearsals of the opening for Violet Evergarden in the line outside of the back door to themain event hall back in AX 2017 which probably made me one of the first 100-ish people who heard this song.

Even forgetting that the main genre is drama, this anime shows a very carefully respect towards music. The way how characters breathe while they playing, the way how they located in orchestra, how Taki controls their performance - all this things makes deep immersion in music I'm a beginner musician (drummer), so I can't judge for sure, but all "Hibike! Euphonium" series is masterpiece for sure btw my favorite anime of all time - Liz to Aoi Tori (also sry for my bad english, not my native language)
@k-ondoomer Жыл бұрын
Liz is such an excellent film. It's got such a nice indie / Arthouse vibe

As a band geek, it pleases me to no end that they recorded wind orchestra versions of the OPs and EDs for this series. Loads of good music out of this show.

I always liked the TV version over the full version but could never musically describe why. Thank you for articulating it! This is one of my favorite shows and my second favorite after K-On! from KyoAni. Been loving the reaction commentary on Patreon!

Actually every Hibike Euphonium opening / ending song has an orchestral version, but they preferred to use them for the theatrical releases. This song has two orchestral version: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5abkKRopceSlZo, and with vocals kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZ2YgWZ_g7KHia8

Important to note that this source we're listening to here is a non-official fan-made mix of the TV Size OP soundtrack and the actual full DREAM SOLISTER song. (They mentioned it in the description but in Japanese.) Only the TV Size one of the two has the 16s intro so it must be the anime team who mixed it in (which also makes there 2 different composers in this). The intro is specifically there for a last episode recap at the beginning of a Hibike episode and the big drum hits lead to the start of the OP movie - I'm personally more convinced than not considering the flow of the content this mix it's fitted into. The official versions are located here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZfCm31vmdWWjM0 (Full song MV) kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2rbaKpjr7GZZqs (TV Size soundtrack)

You are on time watching the anime since they announced that season 3 will happen next year-ish! hopefully you'll continue watching it and also the movies are amazing, just like any other commenters said, Lis and the blue bird is so good
@maxfaberg128 Жыл бұрын
The refrain of the OP 1 catches me everytime off guard. Amazing. The problem with the OP is the prolonged version. The shorter OP mix of the actual show is fine though. Btw how do you like the actual Crescend Moon Dance composition that they perform as a band?
@k-ondoomer Жыл бұрын
This is a stretch but what would it take for you to go over the op of season 2 for k-on? Either one is filled with crazy tight rhythm and key changes. Excellent video I also appreciate your comments about the pitch correction. As a musician all these little details are interesting to dissect in the context of a music anime
@tokugawashigeshige8862 Жыл бұрын
No need to feel defensive about your criticisms; we're here for your opinions so it's all good. Given your background, it makes sense why you'd wish the song went in a less generic J-pop direction. That's honestly a perspective I'd never even considered before, especially when you said that maybe they didn't even need a vocalist. So few anime openings do that, it'd probably be a big risk when it comes to their music sales, unfortunately. Much more profitable to get a popular singer or band so that the music and the anime can cross-promote each other.

I´m fully with your assessment. What I like about the Hibike franchise is the way they show good, bad, and better orchestral musicianship within the series. For a good "intro", have a look at the first minutes of "Liz and the Blue Bird".

You know, there's just orchestra versions of both openings and endings for hibike euphonium, just search "name of the song + wind orchestra" and it should come up on YT, if you don't know the names just search for the op & ed and you'll see the names, I think just the second opening "soundscape" doesn't come with just the instrumentals but the other 3 do so yeah, pretty good

Some animes with openings not so standards are: Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju - both openings (1 & 2) Mushi shi - The sore feet song Mushi shi Zoku-shō - Shiver Ikoku Meiro no Croisée - Sekai wa Odoru yo, Kimi to Serial Experiments Lain - Duvet Hellsing - Logos Naki World Selector Infected Wixoss - Killy Killy Joker

Hibike is a great show. Totally agree that this intro isn't quite what I would have hoped of this anime. The fill into the piano is pretty nice through the super energy filled section before. I just wish it was better spaced as you were hinting towards ^

I totally get what you mean regarding the vocals. I also wished there was more big band stuff in the opening but I can understand the traditional JRock opening style. Don't get me wrong I love it, but I wished there was an actual instrumental opening that showcased more big band stuff. I'm sure that since this is a music anime there would definitely be more pieces like that in the anime itself.

Hi Tony- You really need to call it Hibiki Euphonium! Thats what 95% of the fans know it as - you will confuse people a bit translating it. p.s You absolutely should watch the movie from this series - Liz and the blue bird - its incredible and has a fair bit of classical music in it. Only trouble is I wanna say you can watch it without watchinig the 2 seasons but - i'd still recommend seeing them first lol - so its a bit much expecting you to watch all that.. The film is a masterpiece. Liz to Aoi Tori (Liz and The Blue Bird) Ensemble Scene kzbin.info/www/bejne/op_ZoXyOlJZsaas This is the pivotal scene - its only 4 min long- the band performing the song they have been practicing - where Nozomi realises her friend Mizore has been holding herself back for her sake.

I just looked at the montly keyword search numbers. It's pretty even between both titles. I made a few changes to hopefully register for both. Thanks for suggestion.
