Thank you Tanveer Iqbal for the wonderful commentary on Zubaida Khanum singing career. She had a wonderful voice (Punjabi in essence), but very sweet. As you mentioned, OP Nayyar, insisted very much on the voice of the singer. It made all the difference. Why he preferred the voice of Geetha and Asha instead of Latha, we do not know. Zubaida is in a different level together. Her voice is so attractive, and some of her songs are so lively. It is pure pleasure to listen. What a singer she was! Listening to her from India we cannot help but compare. The voices of Noor Jehan, Shamshad Begum, Geetha, Latha, Asha and Suraiya instantly come to mind. Each one of them had a unique voice. Your commentary is so helpful for us to follow, though some Urdu words are beyond us. Lastly I would like to say something about one of our leading singers from southern India, P. Susheela. When the she went for her first voice recording. The elderly music director who heard her voice began to cry uncontrollably. When asked why he cried, He said, ''I have been waiting all my life to hear this voice''. Madam Zubaida belongs to that class. One you hear that voice, it can never leave you. Thank you Tanveer.
