I want a company to look at all the flaws of a standalone device, all of the cons and make a Frankestein’s monster of all those pro’s minus the cons lol. I want a company to blatantly copy the op-1 design, make it their own, but with an accessible and seamless song mode.

I've recently realized that a huge thing I want out of new gear is portability. I feel very content with my Elektron setup which has a permanent place at my desk, but would love more sound-design tools to be more "creative" with outside of my arrangement space. Touching on that Dylan, no octatrack interest? I've been having the best time last year with mine!

Octatrack has always been interesting to me but it has three issues as an outsider that are putting me off: 1. The price is very high, by all accounts this is probably fair because it seems to be a beast and folks love it, but the price makes it harder for me justify picking up. 2. It has a huuuuge skill ceiling, Red Means Recording has talked about this but every new piece of gear is an investment of time and I am not sure I’m willing to dedicate the time to learn it with all the other gear I have. And 3, and probably most crucial, it doesn’t have overbridge support so getting stems out compared to a syntakt, digitakt, or digitone, is a bigger hassle. Most of my dawless jams end up in Ableton before they’re done, so overbridge would be crucial. I do like the idea of a portable one as well! All that said the octatrack is similar to the deluge for me where it looks really cool and I might end up caving and getting one at any point despite my concerns

You hit on all the right things that I wish for also. Btw, I waited almost 2 years before I got my Maschine + and didn’t have any of the issues that others had mentioned because I never get anything when first released. Anyway, great video and happy new year Dylan!

I remember requesting the project transition feature you mention to 1010music for the Blackbox, which like any piece of hardware, does have its resources limits. I specified this way technically : as you engage the transition, it would resample and bounce into memory a predefined loop of the master output of current project so that the current song only uses the resources of a single sample playing without any FX, then introduce the new track preloaded in memory during iterations of the outgoing track’s resampled loop. It’s not perfect and does not give full freedom on the parts playing during the transition, but it would still be better than nothing and wouldn’t require more hardware resources.
