Winner of the 2023 MSU Denver Composition Competition
This work is greatly inspired by Beethoven. There is a lot of tension in this piece and the journey of the music aims to resolve this tension; the last movement being the most tense. The themes from the first and second movements are introduced with a twisted variation. The first theme is a heavy, shouting melody that represents fate circling around us, inescapable. Suddenly, the mood switches to a more joyous version. Our fate doesn't have to be doomed. The second movement theme is introduced in a sad fugue. The percussion is creating special effects to make the section feel like a dream. We wake up and the section ends with the same joyous mood as before and the piece ends with a race to victory. - Jakob Garcia
