The best part of memes like Baka Mitai is that they introduce you to songs that are genuine certified BANGERS
@knightbot40524 жыл бұрын
The best memes are music memes. Because eventually, memesters with genuine talent end up putting way too much effort into them. Coffin dance is an example that comes to mind. The amount of BANGING remixes that came out of that song was amazing.

I think the intentional layering on phrases like "I LOVE YOU" only for it to be followed by a single non layered note ("mo") from Kiryu really emphasizes the loneliness. Like there was once this huge backing of powerful emotions and now theres just this emptiness and seperation between the instrumentation and Kiryu, the build up repeats only to return back to that same emptiness. It's really moving.

Context for Baka Mitai. It means “I’m such a fool,” and essentially is about regretting not telling someone you loved them. The slow, smooth tone is supposed to mimic the act of drinking your troubles away in some Smokey bar, as Kiryu does quite a bunch.
@virtualcynical85154 жыл бұрын
Quite a few of Yakuza's Karaoke songs are actually deeply depressing. "Like a Diamond" is about all the things you want to do with someone, but you can't. Kiryu wants to be with Haruka, but he can't anymore. A bunch of the songs are like that

When you find the love of your life, and I mean genuinely THE one (whether friend, family, or a lover), just to have them no longer in your life is a devastating feeling. Knowing full well that those are and will be the best moments in your life is such a fleeting feeling. When you're in the moment with them it feels natural like this is what it's supposed to be but once it's over you realize just how special it was to feel in such naive bliss. Life is long and coping with the idea that you'll go the rest of your life without them is a hard truth to swallow. But it's important to be strong and carry on. If Kiryu fell into those feelings he wouldn't be the hero of his town and making everyone else experience their best moments in life. This song perfectly encapsulates all the themes and feelings Yakuza tries to talk about and I absolutely LOVE IT.

So harmonicas, at least here in the states, are associated with the miners and factory workers of old. As well as plantation slaves. So they've almost always been used as way for oppressed people to express themselves in popular media. So that might have something to do with how we interpret harmonicas today.

I think Alex's assessment is spot on. This is a song about expressing pain and regret, getting it all out, and moving on. It's kind of like someone talking about a painful memory, starting off kind of cold and sad, then they reach an emotional peak around the "Dame da ne" where the emotional pain is at its strongest. Then at the "Baka mitai" it's like they're still sad about it, but they feel a little better having acknowledged it and gotten it off their chest.

Lyrics: I've been a fool, and you've been childish You fell down, you got hurt chasing sweeter dreams Never could, hide the truth in your eyes That's how I knew, that smile was a lie "I love you" is Something you never say Couldn't get it out, always just pulled away So then why, please won't you tell me why You could find the words, to say goodbye I'm such a mess I'm lost, I'm no good at this I'm in love, still in love Still in love with you Hard as I try Can't even drink this pain away Memories of you, twisting my view I've been a fool. So, yeah, it sounds depressing and sad, because it very much is. Yakuza 0 was pretty much where Kiryu learned how unfit he is for the Yakuza lifestyle, setting up his near death in 1. Dude has it rough.
@jprec51744 жыл бұрын
That’s what makes kiryu’s story so deep and emotional. He’s a dude that was incredibly talented and if it were not for Kazuma killing his parents he probably would have been a professional athlete/star and successful. Kazumadad lowkey hints at this in Yakuza 1. What makes yakuza 0 so damn amazing is that it’s a prequel that literally enhanced the entirety of the franchise retroactively by showing us just why the mishmash of stuff in Yakuza 1 like protecting/raising Haruka were so focused on in the franchise as a whole.

It's very nice see a expert analysing and talking about songs of video games or memes :)

That outfit is a strange combination of Kiryu's classic outfit combined with his Yakuza 0 one. It's got the low buttoned style of the classic, but with the chain pattern on undershirt from the Yakuza 0 outfit, all with the brightness turned down for a black and gold color set.

Rock, jazz, orchestral compositions, and ballads. Only a sample of some genres Japanese musicians excel at. Hate when people ask why I listen so much anime and game music. The language doesn't matter, they are objectively epic.

So glad I came across your video and your content. I'm a composer/producer myself with a particular affinity for video game soundtracks, and I've found your videos so enjoyable. Also your style is rad. Jealous of that shirt haha.
