Fun fact: In his song, "Hideaway" Jacob modulates from A=432 (flatter than what we are used to) to A=440( What we are used to). You could hear this shift if you start the video at the beginning solo guitar part and then skipping to the end solo guitar part.

A capella that is so complicated and amazing, there is probably only one choir in the world that can perform it competently (Voces 8), and they had to practice it for months before recording. In terms of Jacob Collier, I like his breakdown videos explaining how he made his songs best. I don't think ANYONE interested in music regardless of genre could possibly find them boring. Then interviews where he talks music. Then come the song videos (not much of a taste for western music, particularly with too much going on). Then I pretty much don't like the live show videos at all. Though of course him playing many instruments and particularly involving the audience in the music is fascinating. His use of loops is superb and his overall familiarity with his setup and technology shines, but the overall effect is not to my taste. I don't think live shows is a good format for Jacob Collier given that his real talent is in the microdetail of his songs, which is hard to do live, though I guess fans want to attend and probably good money...
@0.5ivory3 жыл бұрын
That's a good point. There is a lot going on in his music, and with his superb attention to detail, he can make it all fit together for some really dope effects! (Although I will say even though it sounds cool and is impressive, often times it's a little too much for me) and I'm sure have that much control is really hard to do live. But there's a lot to learn from him!
@Vidyut_Gore3 жыл бұрын
@@0.5ivory I know what you mean. Personally, I sense this fellow is not even close to 'performing' as we generally understand it - achieving some kind of reliable mastery after assimmilating learning. He's still in a discovering phase, expanding and applying everything he can with excitement. There is a lot, because there is a lot of discovery going on. In the moment, rather than a game plan/vision. The sense is distinctly one of playing, trying out, experimenting rather than one of applying, performing that will eventually emerge. Rather like a supercomputer ripping through incomprehensible quantities of data, testing and indexing it. At some point he'll pause for breath and that mind will have a moment to fit that universe of ideas together... I suspect in coming years, as he assimmilates all the stuff going on with him, we will see music that will leave what he currently too far behind. What is blowing our minds is the raw material. The masterpieces he will make from it are still in the future. Many prodigy's achieve too much, too fast and have nowhere left to go. This one seems to have infinite drive left, so I don't think he's going to collapse. I don't think we have the ability to imagine what they could be like. My money is on this fellow making it into music textbooks and music history of the future for work that hasn't yet happened. At least that is how I see him. And why I keep an eye on him. It is rare to see genius form as you watch and much as his music is not my type, I'm not taking my eyes off. lol
