They dedicated this cover to “anyone who has ever felt pride in who they are and for anyone who ever doubted the power of their own uniqueness.” It was in response to the mass shooting at the Pulse Nightclub in 2016 where 49 people from the LGBTQ community were killed and 50+ were injured.

I want to know how anyone thinks that they have the right to do this, to anyone, any religion, any nationality, any race anything, we were not placed here to condemn others because of differences, that’s what makes the world interesting, are we all supposed to be identical programmed robots? Is that really what these people want???

My husband killed himself in February. I discovered Pentatonix in September. When I found out they were going to have a concert in Denver on November 20th I was overjoyed and immediately bought tickets for myself and a friend. We were in the nosebleed seats, but we were going to go and we were going to have fun. And on November 19th Anderson Lee Aldrich attempted to recreate the horror of the Pulse massacre at Club Q in Colorado Springs, just a few miles from Denver. This time we got lucky. There was a hero present who ran *toward* the danger instead of away. And, astonishingly, he was able to take down a man who had an automatic weapon and was wearing body armor. He says he isn't a hero. Seems to me I've heard that somewhere in the past. Let's see... Oh yes. That's what the real heroes always say. Because of him, we "only" lost five people this time. One of them was the mother of an 11 year old girl. 😢 I found out about Club Q *just* before the concert. During the concert Scott took a few minutes to talk about how queer nightclubs are supposed to be safe places where the LGBTQ+ community can meet and have fun with friends, family, and allies, and what it's like when suddenly that safe place becomes unsafe. We had a moment of silence for the 5 we lost, and the survivors, and the friends and families who will be dealing with the aftermath for the rest of their lives. Then Pentatonix pledged a large amount of money to help out, and the concert continued. And Monday morning I woke up with a deep need to listen to Superfruit's cover of "Rise." Yesterday was a cold and bleak Thanksgiving for me, the first without my husband, and with the added sorrow of the Club Q shootings. And I'm still listening to "Rise." It is now on my permanent playlist, for its power and its message of empowerment. I need that. TYLR, thank you for this reaction.

This song was done in response to the mass shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando in 2017. All the artists who sang are members of the LGTBQ+ community. Pentatonix also donated half the concert proceeds from their concert a few days ago to the families of the victims of the recent gay bar shooting in Colorado. I love this song for the message and it's power as well as it's beauty. Oh....and I vote for Guy. Exe!!

I love this powerful song so much! I cry every time! It's appropriate you reacted to this now as we've just had another shooting in another LGBTQ club. They did this in honor of the Pulse nightclub shooting in June of 2016. All of these singers are part of the LGBTQ community so they felt strongly about sharing this with honor and respect. Guy.exe is fun and funny. Hip hop goes to Broadway, parts 1 and 2 are also great although I think technically more difficult. One of my top superfruit medleys is the empire medley. I would recommend you put that on your list too. Love your heartfelt reactions and look forward to more.

Thanks for your reaction to this powerful song. If you read the description from the original post this performance was done in honor of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, FL 5 years ago where 49 people were killed. All 5 are members are in the LGBTQ+ Community and now we have the Club Q in Colorado this past week. When will this hatred and violence against the LGBTQ Community end? Mario has been a part of the Philharmonic on a few of CBS Late, Late Show with James Corden a few years ago. He was working with PTX merchandise team when Scott asked Mario to be the opening act for their show. Then Scott surprised him by flying his parents to the show. That is just another example of this group's Love and Support In their hearts. Since you found Superfruit you have to watch Mitch being a Mad Scientist and his creation. Always wait until the end because after the Subscribe message there are hilarious bloopers. They all have side projects but PTX is always first. Kevin does a podcast with his brother and Kirstin did "Kinky Boots" on Broadway that really helped with her confidence. Mitch worked through the pandemic on his alternative music "Messer" and Scott released his solo, "Mars" that is beautifully crafted with his partner Mark. So timely to react to this right after the events in Colorado Springs. I'm sure someone else mentioned they pulled together these LGBTQ+ artists as a response to the Pulse Nightclub tragedy. Last week I listened to this over and over. Mary Lambert's song "She Keeps Me Warm" was sampled/featured in Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' track "Same Love." Mary's tender, lilting voice is so stunning, and "She Keeps Me Warm" is just amazing. Legend has it, Mario was working on one of Pentatonix's tours an actually got tagged to open for them. (though I've heard a few variations of the story) On Scott's KZbin Channel (which has some amazing gems) Scott and Mario perform a cover of LP's Lost On You" over Hans Zimmer's Inception Soundtrack which is an absolute Master Class in both arraigning mashups and vocal dynamics. PLEASE, MORE Superfruit! Anything from their Future Friends album is amazing (esp. GUY.EXE) but also their video for "Sweet Life" is good and won a world choreography award (though the guys don't appear in the video).

Guy.exe would be my choice for you next. Their version of this song is so very powerful. I especially love the reasoning behind this collaboration. The Pulse nightclub shooting was horrific and devastating. I can remember exactly when I heard it happened. My family was already reeling from a shooting that happened just before. Up and coming pop artist Christina Grimme who got her start on "The Voice" was shot and killed by a rabid fan. My husband worked with Christina's father and we had been following her career for many years, starting when she was just making videos of herself singing in her bedroom at home in NJ. Any shooting here in the US always brings me back to this sorrowful time. I usually don't try to get reactors to listen to other artists, but if you ever get a few minutes, look up Christina Grimme's blind audition for "The Voice."
