This was released a month after Katy Perry released the song. This was in tribute to the LGBTQ community after the Pulse Club Shooting, in Florida. It was a gay club and targeted because of that. It's very good and the message speaks to all of us at one point or another in our lives. Brilliant talent! Kudos to Kerry Perry to share the spotlight with this song.

Also, have to put another vote in for Scott and Mario's 'Lost on You'. You reacted to the original by LP, and you were a bit iffy about it, BUT Scott in his genius mode mashed it with the theme from 'Inception', and got his buddy Mario to sing with him. Bloody brilliant. Oh! And it's been awhile since I pestered for Guy EXE. It's a scream. Not sure how you'll take it, but MAN it'll be fun to watch 😅

Another side note is that Mario Jose was a tour manager for Pentatonix in the early days. He got some vocal coaching from them and they surprised him by having him open for them in Boston. They flew his family in to see it. This version always makes me cry knowing the back story of why they recorded it.

You know by now that this was a response to the massacre at Pulse in 2016. My husband killed himself in February of 2022, and I first discovered Pentatonix seven months later. Their music has helped me in the grieving process. So when I found out that they were going to be giving a concert near me on November 20th of 2022 I immediately went online and bought tickets for a friend and myself. We weren't in the best seats by any means, but we were going to go and we were going to have fun! And then on November 19th a man with an assault rifle walked into Club Q, a queer nightclub in Colorado Springs (about 70 miles south of my home west of Denver) intending to recreate the horror of the Pulse massacre. This time we got lucky. This time a man saw people he loved being murdered and ran *toward* the danger, and against all odds he managed to disarm and take down the murderer using only his bare hands and his own body weight. Because of him, this time we "only" lost five people. One was the mother of an eleven year old girl. 😪 At least two were shot while trying to protect others - most heros don't live long enough to tell us they aren't really heros, the way the man who took down the shooter did. That was November 19th. The first I heard about the shootings was the next day, sitting in my seat at the concert, checking email on my phone while waiting for Pentatonix to come on stage. It hit me hard. It brought back memories of all the gay friends I've lost over the years, to AIDS, suicide, and simple old age. All old losses, grieved long ago, but all flooding back in on top of my most recent loss as if they'd just happened again. Eventually Mitch and Scott came out to talk about Club Q. Mitch led us in a moment of silence, and then Scott talked about queer nightclubs. About how they're supposed to be safe places where members of the LGBTQ+ community can meet with family, friends, and allies to share good conversation and good fun. And about what it's like when that safe place is suddenly no longer safe. And then Pentatonix pledged a large amount of money to the recovery efforts in Colorado Springs, and the concert began. Yes, it was a good concert, but the pleasure was shadowed by the knowledge of what had just happened at Club Q. We had to leave early to catch the last bus back to where I'd parked, and by the time we got to my car I was chilled through. The car's heater didn't do much to fix this problem, so as soon as I got home I changed into warm pajamas and sat down in my comfy chair with two blankets for "just a few minutes until I get warm." I woke up five hours later because I was still too cold, plus I had a sore neck from sleeping sitting up. So I took some ibuprofen and made a pot of coffee, and as soon as I actually got warm again I discovered a deep need to revisit SuperFruit's cover of "Rise." And this time I heard what I had somehow missed before. This is a powerful anthem of self-affirmation, defying the odds, and hope for the future. It speaks directly to my needs since losing my husband. It gives me courage. The Thursday after the concert was a holiday, my first Thanksgiving without my husband. "Rise" got me through Thanksgiving. And in December it got me through my first Christmas without my husband. And in January it got me through my first birthday without him. And in February it got me through the first anniversary of his death. I have downloaded it for my permanent personal playlist; I anticipate that I'll still be listening to it on my own deathbed some decades from now, and it's one of the reasons I expect to have those remaining decades.

Lost on You. EPIC. I've been pestering on and off about that one for a long time. Scott did an absolute beast of an arrangement for that. You wouldn't think it was two completely different tracks meshed together. They were made to be mashed up. 😍

Another great reaction. Superfruit never disappoints. For something lighthearted and humorous the other thing they did on their channel was a 15-minute show where they can be doing anything. The beginning of wicked is part of how their show goes. I highly recommend "try not to laugh challenge.' This is a link to Mario and Scott performing lost on you. It's L.P. lyrics on a Hans Zimmer track. The track is from deception. It is well worth your time and you will not be disappointed

I thought you had already done this one, and lo and behold, you have. You’ve become more critical, though. The first time around, you rated them at 9.6. (Yes, I went back and watched it. 🙄 easy. Not everyone remembers that stuff. I remember folks talking about her when that song came out in 2012. Didn't really hear anything about her after that. So 10 years later, I didn't put together that they were one in the same until I saw it in a comment on another reaction.
