@ochrerealm77845 жыл бұрын
Hey Robbie! The best way I guess you can describe ratio on a compressor is how much the compressor squashes the sound by. For example, with a 2:1 ratio, when the sound goes 1db over the threshold, it gets reduced by 2db! Also, a cool trick for guitar doubling is using something called the “Haas Effect”, where you set your delay to stereo with a 20 - 30 ms delay time! It widens out the sound and gives it a stereo feel without having to use another track!

I mean, yeah. Unless you want it to be a very acoustic, indie-sounding song, this is still just about the start. Electronic music project files can look absolutely insane if they're actually well-done. It's the same with anything, really. You never realise that it's really that complex and that so much goes into it unless you actually try making it.

I hate when I'm writing a song and then I have to stop coz it's to late or something, my mind is more productive when it's late which ends in me only rarely writing even half a song.

This video inspired me to buy an interface and microphone and a computer and start making music. 5 years later I’m still learning a couple things I didn’t know or maybe forgot on GarageBand. He made it so simple and chill yet pretty comprehensive for a beginner. Thanks Robbie. Life wouldn’t be the same without you.

that's such a cool trick to reach those higher range notes. kinda reminds me of how the beatles recorded "strawberry fields forever". the chorus (starting at "going to") was from a different take which was heavier and harder, and also in a slightly higher key. they cut and taped it in between the verses from the other take and slowed the chorus down to match the key, so john lennon's voice shifts into a sort of lower deeper tone in the chorus.

What I sometimes like to do in music is sidechaining, it's a nice thing that goes a long way. For example, if I have a vocal or main instrument, I get a part of the track i want to sidechain, and I'll feed the vocals as a sidechain through into a compressor and adjust similar to what you did, trying to find a nice balance. After this, I duplicate the sidechained track, unsidechain it by removing the compressor and add something called "Utility" (in Ableton live 11). With utility, I make it so that the sidechained track is mono, and set the unsidechained track to something between 150-200. I do this because what sidechaining basically does is "make room" for vocals, in this example. It does so by taking any frequencies in the sidechain and attenuating those frequencies in the sidechained track. The reason for the doubling and utility is because, in this example, vocals are centred. Because of that we want the sidechain to only be done only on the centre as the vocals are nowhere else. With this we allow our vocals, or anything we want, to really thrive and stand out to the rest. I hope this helps anyone else looking to improve their music production skills! (Sorry if my explaining was terrible I'm not great at it) :) - Good luck y'all and happy 2025!
