One of my all time favourite JRPG’s, the music is always a highlight of the Persona series, Shoji Meguro is a musical genius. Even the spin offs have the same great quality of music. Meguro doesn’t usually work on those, but another very talented composer called Atsushi Kitajoh produces music for them.

Good ear (obviously) on the leitmotif at 33:25 that little rising jingle is from a very important song in Persona 2 that's name is a spoiler but is another version of the song called Maya's theme. It's often thought to be like the "core song" from Persona 5 as a lot of songs refrence it but that is because the composer has a soft spot for it and see's it as a sort of "spirit of the series" jingle. They even put it into the intro for the Persona 3 remake open movie song though it's a lot more subtle there.

Shoji Meguro’s use of genres that don’t typically get used in the JRPG genre like Jazz, Hip-Hop, Funk and Disco make him stand out from the typical orchestral fair you get. And even when he’s paired down with a piano or guitar, he exudes personality and emotions that I wish more composers would tap into.

17:24 It's funny you mention brain freeze in this context... it's actually one of the questions the sports/English teacher (he has to double up because it's a small school) asks Yu during one of the class sessions. 39:40 Don't blame you for "getting lost." I could listen to Backside of the TV all day and never get bored of it. 45:40 Love the improv bits you've been doing so far! Castle is my favorite dungeon theme because it doesn't necessarily fit the theme of the dungeon itself but reflects the mentality of the team as they scramble to rescue the first victim that they are actually capable of rescuing. 58:39 If you can believe it, this song is a jingle for promoting a diet drink (in English it would be called Calorie Magic); however, the face of that advert ends up foreshadowing one of your future party members (I say future because despite where it shows up in the OST list you actually see the advert as one of the very first scenes of the game). XD 1:02:40 No one in this game suffers from split personality disorder, but as one of the chatters mentioned the Shadow represents the repressed side of the self, usually due to bullying or self-esteem issues. Mind you, these Shadows take the issues far beyond their logical conclusion because they are emotion-based entities, and must be mastered by the ego in order to become a Persona - in the specific case of P4, this means accepting the root cause of the Shadow (Yukiko's powerlessness, Kanji's hobbies, and etc.) and instead of turning away from and ignoring it, working towards resolving the issues. 1:18:00 The reason this track has an 8-bit motif(?) is because the dungeon is a shout-out to the first SMT game (a few of the in-game dialogue that you get on each new floor is also a reference to this). Now, the in-universe reason for this is because the person whose mind created the dungeon is a creepy loner who uses video games as their escape mechanism. You probably saw a few chats saying something about Mitsuo being a "red herring," and that's not unintentional - by either chat or the developers. Mitsuo is claiming to be the killer, and the police are desperate to close the case as there have been absolutely no leads (supernatural causes tend to not leave physical evidence behind), but while the team thinks that he could be the culprit you the player know he isn't, and the developers make that clear in several ways (not the least being that you still have half a year left). 1:42:38 So, there's a LOT of symbolism with all of the themes, but this is probably the most blatant. Never fails to bring me to tears, this one... Anyway, I'm so glad that more people are getting into and exploring what is one of the best soundtracks of all time! Hope you enjoy the rest of the soundtrack next week!
@ItsMiiUly2 жыл бұрын
1:26:26 another comment here :). So cool that you pointed out that these two tracks are similar in many ways. Just like in the context of the game (spoiler free) these two characters are connected and similar. Especially when (maybe my memory is foggy) they both share A New World Fool as their boss fight Theme.

Corner of memories might be triggering flashbacks to Regret, but for the most part, the soundtracks to each game are wholly unique, with maybe an exception here and there. But each game tends to have one song that some of the more iconic tracks tend to build off or present in different tones. Persona 5 has Willpower, Regret, and Blooming Villain, which all have the recurring riff in them. Persona 4 has the song Nevermore which plays during the credits, which has the chorus reprise in every version of I'll face myself (all three of them in vanilla, and four of them in Golden), and is the main melody of Corner of memories, which is the title screen/main menu theme. Persona 3 has the song Memories of you/Kimi no kioku, which reprises itself rather frequently throughout the game, and in a similar manner to Persona 4, bookends the game by being not only the credits theme, but the title screen/main menu theme in the form of Brand New Days ~the beginning~

I love how one of the brass horns in like a dream come true almost sounds like a human voice humming along. Makes me hum along I love it

Persona 3 and 5 have really good, really stylized music but Persona 4s is just another level of skill. Everytime I hear Shadow World after not hearing it for awhile I tear up. It’s that good and the lyrics go hand in hand perfectly with the games story of facing yourself.
