As you pointed out the bassplayer's singing skills: Marko Hietala was already pretty much a legend (at least in FInland) when he joined Nightwish in 2001. He founded the Metal / Heavy Rock outfit Tarot back in 1982, when he was 16 years old. He's the (main) singer and Bassplayer of that band, but the band has been on hiatus since 2016, following the passing of their drummer. He's been doing some solo work since then, released a solo album, and he did a tour through Europe earlier this year (just before COVID-19 struck).

Oh, I thought he was in the original Nightwish. So who were in the original band besides Tarja and Tuomas?
@sovex93314 жыл бұрын
@@Ilonah83 I think the band originally started with Tarja, Tuomas, Emppu (the lead guitarist) and Jukka (the former drummer) - that was in 1996. On their first album, "Angels Fall First", Tuomas did the male vocals and Emppu recorded the bass guitar as well. Marko (the bass player) joined the band in 2002 after their former bassist was kicked out of the band. Jukka (the original drummer) had to quit the band because of health issues and was replaced by Kai who were also friends at that time - he then took upon the role to manage the band for a few years. We'll come back to Troy after you react to 'The Greatest Show On Earth' or stuff from their last album because he wasn't touring with the band during the Wacken concert and wasn't "officially" a member of the band.

Pantera was life changing for Floor too. And for me. A friend gave me a cassette to listen to back when I was 14 or 15, said "you've got to listen to it, there's something on the B side but don't mind that". The B side was Far Beyond Driven. Changed my life forever! And then in 2000, I met my husband who said you just have to listen to this band: Nightwish 😁. Twenty years later, we're still in this Army (the Anette-period excluded mostly. The songs were still great, but she never really won me over). And then came in Floor, who's career we had also been following since After Forever. That was a match made in heaven! Back in 2015, our first Floor-Nightwish concert was also our son's very first concert (8 at the time). Full circle 😀

Guitar player's name is Emppu Vuorinen. He usually plays more melodically, giving to the song, instead of showing off. I'm a guitar fan myself, and my top guitarists have to be Ritchie Blackmore and Joe Satriani, and altough I don't think Emppu is at the same virtuoso level, he has come to be one of my favorites players. His tone! That guitar just sounds soooo sweet! And he delivers whenever he needs to deliver. Melodic, shred, crunchy riffs. I think he's one of the best out there because he can do it all. Speaking of which, the singer, Floor, she can sing it all. I do mean all, metal or otherwise.

So, how does it feel inside the rabbit hole? You will never find out again. I tried, for over 20 years. Discovering Nightwish in 1998 is the best thing that happened in my childhood. And Floor and Troy joining the gang has been the best that happened to Nightwish, in my opinion. I would suggest the following order of reactions: 1. The whole Wacken live concert. All of it. Really. 2. The poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley arena. With sub titles. This is where the lyrics really matter. Look up the story behind the song. Get some tissues and don't have plans afterwards. 3. The whole Tampere concert from 2015 (or was it 2016?). At least "The greatest show on earth" (20+ minutes of epicness, totally worth to listen till the last second of the video), 'Weak Fantasy' and 'Islander' from that concert. 4. The new album Human : Nature, including the instrumental second CD. 'Tribal' and 'Shoemaker' are my fav songs and 'Ad Astra' my favorite piece. 5 The accoustic versions of 'Nemo' and 'How's The Heart' (from the new album) presented by Floor and Troy for the channel 'Planet Rock'. There you can witness how talent and skill don't require much to create awesomeness. 6. Somewhere in between you can add the duet between Floor and Henk Port that made Floor, Nightwish and Heavy Metal finally known in her home country Netherlands (thanks to the TV show they participated in, 'Beste Zangers', where professional singers sing for each other and are among themselves). 'Phantom Of The Opera', Nightwish version from an old album. And Henk is one of Floors first and most important influences. 7. You can then move on to the solo and/or side projects or previous engagements. Floor with her old bands 'After Forever' or 'Revamp', Marco with 'Tarot' or his solo album (wich is dope). Tuomas, the keyborder, componist and mastermind, with his solo music or the project where he is joined by his wife (with her sweet voice) and Troy. Or when Floor sings with her friend Simone Simons and her band Epica (wich was actually founded by the former founder of Floors former band 'After Forever' who was also Simones boyfriend at that time.). 8. Move on to Epica and Simone and discover the world of Symphonic Metal. And from there to many, many other bands of this genre. Also, if you like progressive, you might also be interested in Ayreon. A project by a dutch prog rock artist, where he recruits different singers and musicians (though he plays most instruments himself) for his ongoing conceptual albums. Floor has been part of it pretty much since the beginning, and the rest is just a list of some of the best and most known vocalists and musicians of european metal. From the only concert that was ever held by Ayreon (3 days long concert) I would recommend the song 'Eye of Ra', not the greatest song (in my opinion) but ALL them singers and musicians are on stage. That's a sight to behold. There is not only Floor, but also her little sister Irene Jansen (great rock vocalist) and Marco, this very own Nightwish bass player. And well, too many great people.
@KaiHarper894 жыл бұрын
Ayreon is *phenomenal* - Arjen Lucassen created something supremely special with that project, and it's one of my favourite endeavours. ...Since calling the project a band would be...slightly inaccurate. Next to that, I'd very, very much suggest Avantasia. Tobias Sammet's rock opera project - there's a lot of the same artists in both, and both are very much worthy of looking into if you like prog/rock opera/ASTOUNDING talent on display.

I love nightwish since '97 - I'm not a hardcorfan, but what I can say of nightwish, is: this band has been and still is a group of highly talented musicians, who really have fun playing and experimenting music. They absolutely love what they're doing. And they love their audience! Indeed their old singer Tarja Turunen, was the reason I took ten years singing lessons. Have you ever listened to Within Temptation by the way? It is a netherland band from the same aera, same subgenre. In the end of the nineties there were popping up a lot of bands in this style, here in europe. It started with a norwegian band called theatre of tragedy, where the singer had a lovely angel voice and another bandmameber contrasted that with deep beastlike growls. Not all of these bands still exist, like theatre of tragedy. But Within Temptation still remains and is doing great music. I really enjoyned this reaction-video. You were expeting to both nightwish videos, as I expected you to react. Your metal- and music-teacher background made it even more interesting! Thanks for that great video! Great music for sure. Her voice is captivating and holds you enthralled with every melodic word. I am surprised, however, that you have not reviewed/reacted to any Sabaton songs. Another GREAT band that have rousing choruses that you cannot help but sing along to at full volume.

Floor likes Panthera, this is even how she met her husband, afaik.
@schwanktest4 жыл бұрын
thought the same as he mentioned pantera. Floor and Hannes met on their tour, but hannes said in one interview that he was backstage drinking whiskey and listening to pantera, when floor came in and told him, that she also like patera. From that moment he knew, that this must be the perfect woman for him. Hannes is the drummer of sabaton.

Pepenez she isn’t actually, it’s really bad for a singer’s voice and vocal cords, and since she is also a vocal coach she is aware of the harmful effects of it and doesn’t smoke in her daily life. That was an exception😉

Now that you have started your journey with Nightwish to ecstasy there's only roughly 100 more songs to go from their past plus their new 2020 album "Human.:||: Nature." from which you can find several lyrics videos on their YT channel.

Ah, did you hear that? Every time a bell rings, a new Nightwish fan is born. Hey, dude. Nice reactions. Nightwish Army has invaded, I take it? It's okay, they're a mighty fine lot. So, just fall down the rabbit hole and join us in Wonderland! Floor is our Queen of hearts and our Valkyrie Goddess. That's all you need remember. Please pay her proper tribute and things will work out fine. Enjoy the ride, it's a good one. Peace out and stay safe.

Well now you've done it. Down the rabbit hole you go! Honestly at this point you might as well go through the entire Wacken lineup. They're all fantastic songs that display how wide a range of style this band can do. You'll definitely appreciate this band and their leader Tuomas Holopainen who is the keyboardist and composer of over 90% of the music. The bassist Marko Hietala also does singing and you'll see he has quite a bit of range. Keep it up buddy you're in for a great ride!

Like your reaction. Well done. Tuomas, the "Song"writer, said, that the biggest bands, which had an influence on him, were Pantera and Metallica.

Already said. But here´s once more. Nightwish is Symphonic metal. One of the pioneers of this genre.

Welcome to the wonderful rabbit hole of Nightwish! They are one of those bands where each song is so vastly different, yet you can tell they are Nightwish.

As a long time musician, I love the theory that you discuss throughout the reaction, even explaining what syncopation is for those without a background in music. Love that you judge based on your background. I am a multi-instrumentalist, primary bass and sax. Never could reallyget past basic chords and tabs on guitar though. With Nightwish, I love the depth of their music. You need to do Phantom of the Opera, which has one of the former singers

Song of Myself from Wacken is the third one that's definitely must listen to. Aside from that, as others have recommended, something like The Islander or Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red show off the range. And of course, the one that really blew everyone's minds back in 1999, Sleeping Sun. That's Nightwish with its original vocalist and that song still remains my favourite from the band because it really stood out and stuck with me.

Great reaction again but if i am allowed to gif one tip: please turn up the volume of the video :) and maybe use earplugs or headphones? for all the sounds underneath, and please next one Song of Myself same concert
@Garbox804 жыл бұрын
Indeed. Many times there is something going on a bit underneath that you just can't pick up unless listening with earphones OR having so much volume in your speakers that it just doesn't work when you're recording with a mic at the same time.

I found them this summer and they're my new favorite band! I enjoy your excitement about Nightwish. Me too! If you like Pantera, they have heavier stuff. Yours is an Empty Hope, Weak Fantasy, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean. Empuu, the guitarist is the "what is required" guitarist. Tuomas keeps him reined in somewhat. He is underrated

Much respect for the love shown to Pantera... also appreciate the White Chapel shirt from you previous video. Floor's voice for some reason has a resonance that just hits me hard. Dude, I look like you but with shorter hair and a grey beard. NOT some beta male, but she just hits me like a bat to the heart. Must be something to that old adage, "Music hath charms to soothe a savage beast".

Down the rabbit hole you go...... watch the whole Wacken show, need to experience it as one show. Then check out the whole Wembly show and then the Decades show. I wasn't a fan until Floor joined the band, best singer they have ever had.

As already said, officially Nightwish are symphonic metal, the truth is though they are a genre to themselves. They've done everything from Classical to Thrash with a detour through Celtic and jazz at some points. One thing with a Nightwish song is first time you never know what you are going to get but it's always outstanding. There's a reason they are the best at what they do and the top symphonic metal band in the business, especially live.
