There’s a good reason why people went crazy over this song; unlike most modern pop songs, this has a lot of “musicality” to it. There’s complex rhythms, a fantastic Motown-esque bassline, key changes, interesting chord progressions, textural variations, etc.

But the main reason why it got so popular and got a top 10 in the charts was because they still managed to make it sound modern and relevant to today’s music even with the 70s vibes and unique chords, with the lyrics and singing style. This song was so cleverly composed and recorded, Bruno Mars knows how to make a hit while still playing with his favourite styles of music

I could feel that something was missing and didn't feel as good as it could and lo and behold - it was definitely recorded with a click. Excellent musical analysis. I fell in love with this song as soon as I heard it, and the love affair has only deepened since. Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars have created a modern masterpiece that borrows only the best from the past. The Something else about this song struck me - it’s a post me too movement love song. So many love songs are disempowering and downright desperate “I’ll die without you...” “Leave the Door Open” is lush, playful, and direct but leaves the ball in the woman’s court. Just came across your channel by accident, and was so pleasantly surprised. As a retired Jazz drummer who's played with some jazz greats, Herb Ellis, Harry "Sweets" Edison & Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Alan Zavod, and Pete Condoli, I had almost given up on music, until I heard Bruno Mars. You, as a music teacher, are such a breath of fresh air to keep the hope of music alive and are to be commended for it. I've told several of my friends who know of my background, that as far as I was concerned, music as we know it, is dead. Hearing Bruno Mars, gave me hope that someone is still capable of producing a "Melody" and a "Bridge", and making a song with a melody that will stand the test of time. I think Bruno Mar's musical compositions will be just as relevant 20 years from now, as they are today when the rest of the crap is long forgotten. My last comment is, you should also talk about how Bruno Mars and his ensemble use "Dynamics" in creating the overall effect of the melody and its effect on the song. Also, not only is the melody a gas, but the rhythm is cookin.

It's amazing how you took that and played it at the end!! You have to have music in your SOUL to be able to learn it and play so beautifully after hearing. You, sir, are a beast!!

Yes! This song has more key changes than the last 5 years worth of music :P I'm so excited about this song... I saw Paak on NPR Tiny Desk Concert, then live at an Amazon AWS trade show, and on Fortnite.. He's so amazing, and I can't think of anyone better than Mars to pair with. Paak is pushing Mars to use his full talents, finally!!
