Love the dissonant chords there. Layne, on the opposite end from Geoff, is the beatboxer/baritone/violinist. J None, with the ripped jeans, is next to Layne. Currently he is nearly 3 yrs into a 5 yr stint with the US Navy who recruited him for his vocal skills. He spent a couple of yrs out in Seattle with the chorus there but was promoted from baritone to bass and Seattle to Wash DC with the premier Navy chorus. It does make it easier for him to get down to Orlando (where VoicePlay is). He isn't a member right now but a fair number are hoping that he will be when he leaves the Navy. He has also recently written and video'd a piece called Am I Here. Eli (rhymes with jelly) is in the middle with a voice that can go from silk to metal and while he is a rock tenor from his early years he can also get down to high bass/low baritone if called for. He also does all the lighting and computer work for the backgrounds, green screens, etc. as well as character voices (he spoke for the Santa in Oogie Boogie). While Geoff and Layne have been alternating in video projects, Eli was responsible for the Creep project. He will be in the rotation now for producing VoicePlay's videos. Earl is the seriously bearded fellow and while is an original member along with Geoff and Layne, he has left for personal reasons after 24 yrs or so. At least we can go back in time and hear the stuff he has done over the years. One of his best is in Queen in 5 Minutes. On a VoicePlay tour he had a ruptured appendix and was hospitalized. The group used that event to create the mini-movie incorporating Queen in 5 Minutes.

Voiceplay is amazing! You can hear Layne (the one on the left) a little more in their cover of True Colors or a little in Bridge Over a Troubled Water. As others have said, he's normally the beat boxer. Although they do have a few songs in their part work series where either Geoff is doing bass AND beat boxing or Layne is doing both. They're very versatile. I ready think you'd like their Bridge Over Troubled Water, Warriors, True Colors, and Queen in 5 Minutes. Their Little Mermaid Medley and Boy Bands in 5 Minutes are awesome ads a lot of fun as well. Great reaction! Voiceplay is my absolute favorite!

The True Colors cover is one of my favorites from them
@KatieFrog2174 жыл бұрын
I'm sure other people have pointed this out but Layne is the beat boxer, so he normally doesn't sing and when he does he usually blends in with the group. If you do want to hear him, there is a small part at the end of the song where you can pick him out! During the end song, at 7:47 in your video, after Geoff(The Bass) starts the first repetition, the second "for I" is Layne. A better example would be at 8:02 (technically just before it clocks over to 8:03) there is the group "for i" and then the second single voice following after them, that is Layne. His voice is actually really nice and I wish he got to sing more often.

Elvis did the first recording of this song I ever heard - the bad news is I remember it, most folks have only heard about it! Sorry I don't know the group member names yet, but I will pay Voice Play some attention in the future. In my head I am comparing this bass to Avi Kaplan and Matt Sallee (Pentatonix) and I'm finding this guy deep, but not as satisfying. I gotta hear more and see if I can pick out what my problem is. Overall, I want to hear more. Thanks DJ.

The reason you couldn't distinguish Layne's (far left) voice is that he is normally the vocal percussionist, and he doesn't like having a lead. It's rare for him to sing at all, but even rarer for him to have a lead or solo. I highly recommend True Colors, his voice is much easier to distinguish in that one.

You really need to listen to this song from Tim Foust. It's just him and he's playing piano. The simplicity make it so so powerful. It really shows his range and my chills got chills. Gets you right in the feels! It was done before he joined Home Free. I really like Voiceplay but this version seems over produced to the point it barely resembles the original song.
@randiskye44443 жыл бұрын
Not sure if they have toured with this song, it was released in 2020, so may not have been road tested prior. Per Geoff, in their live performances they have an in ear "click" that gives them the timing of the songs, so since they are always playing off cues from each other onstage, it keeps the timing accurate. Hope that made sense.

Young Layne is the chappy on the far left. He is their beatboxer and also arranges a lot of their music. I agree with Paul Evans. Covering their version of Warriors will be a treat for you. OK - I had to find out what bothered me about the bass - Geoff Castellucci's performance. I went out and found a very useful video called "2020 Bass Battle" that does a note-for-note comparison between Tim Foust, Geoff, and Avi Kaplan. I say it is useful because it highlights the same note in red as each performer hits it....ya get a real chance to compare each guy against the others. That video is 18 minutes long and covers a large sampling of notes. So, after all that, what's the answer? I dunno - I still can't pick out why this performance didn't quite work for me. Geoff is a great bass...it's just this recording.
