And Geoff has the nerve to call himself a Baritone with a Bass Range. “Not a true bass”
@leechowning27124 жыл бұрын
With 5 octaves range, counting his subvocals, he honestly can call himself anything he wants. He shifts 2 full octaves in that one line... And I was laughing when he said "need to turn this up" and all I could think of the E1 in the end.
@رزيئة3 жыл бұрын
When it comes to voice classification, it's not only the range that counts, but the tone and the prime voice and the comfortable range of a singer etc. So in his case he's a baritone with a bass range. I'm a contralto with a tenor range, Diamanda Galas is a soprano sfogato, meaning she is a contralto or mezzosoprano with a soprano range. Ivan Rebroff is a bass with a bass to soprano range. So yeah it's about the tone before the range.
@jdkilpatrick20003 жыл бұрын
@@رزيئة LOL. First of all, I love your username. 😂 Secondly, I kinda relate to your comment. I was classified by one vocal coach as a soprano, and always sang the top soprano line in choir. But another vocal coach classified me as a mezzo soprano (and I immediately felt like a failure 🤦♀️…like I just wasn’t “good enough” be a real soprano). I have a fairly respectable range, especially if you’re talking about a mixed head/chest voice. As a female, I can sing a decent amount of baritone parts, and can sing about any soprano part…unless you’re talking about insane “only dogs can hear it” whistle tones, and I just was never trained in that. 🤷♀️ (Could probably figure it out and do it if I tried.) But those extreme parts aren’t necessarily super-comfortable, and aren’t something I could sing over and over again without damaging my vocal cords. I feel like I’m in that strange land between mezzo soprano and soprano. I can technically match a very large range of pitches, but I don’t have the same amount of depth/richness that mezzo sopranos do in their lower ranges, and Idon’t have the same strength as true sopranos in their upper ranges. All of that said, I still can’t understand how Geoff says he’s really a baritone vs. bass. His natural speaking voice is sooooo deep. Sounds like pure bass to me. 🤷♀️ But the man’s range is close to the max range of any human that’s ever existed. 😂 Bottom note of the piano? No big deal. Top note of the piano? No big deal. 😂 (Slight exaggeration, but not by much.)

I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction! I was disappointed that you didn't go back "far enough"--and then you did it, at the very end. So I'm happy now. It's amazing when Geoff sings in four different octaves for those 3 final renditions of "I'm the Oogie Boogie man." I'm sure he and Layne worked together very carefully to pitch that arrangement in the right key so he could pull it off so beautifully.

They sound just like this in concert too! Geoff's bass is so strong it vibrated my seat and took my breath away! Just FYI I'm sure it's been said but theres a backtrack of Geoff on the background bass too 😊 I subscribed

I subscribed!!!!. My favorite thing ever is watching people react to Geoff's subharmonic note. I absolutely love the face you made. I would love to see you react to their Little Mermaid medley its amazing.

I subscribed and Geoff is AMAZING. The man has so much range it is crazy. He is not just a bass singer. I am hooked. Only Patreon I have joined is his personal one

The mouth light is used a lot by Till Lindemann in Rammstein when they play live. Also, Geoff's lowest note in this song is an Eb1 in the short bass run right after "To add a little spice", but the last drawn out E1 usually gets people more
@adambaldoni54914 жыл бұрын
That little run is heavily edited. It's given an octave effect in post which means that Geoff sang the run from C#3 to C#2 but it sounds like C#2 to C#1 with the effect added. The subharmonic E1 is the lowest note that Geoff sings in this song.
@AlexusDelphi4 жыл бұрын
@@adambaldoni5491 Ahh, alright. I knew Geoff could go lower than E1, so I figured it wasn't edited

8:18 wow I have never noticed that before watching this video! I believe that's Eli doing the low part here, the person off to the left in that scene. He has been known in the past to have a fairly wode range and picks up the bassline in instances where geoff is soloing and other members are busy
@DougRayPhillips4 жыл бұрын
Subscribed (previously), and liked (this vid). During this quarantine, Geoff is releasing some multitracked solo vids where he sings 4 or 5 part harmony with himself. A couple months ago, he released "Bare Necessities" from Jungle Book. And a week or two ago, he released Paul McCartney's "Blackbird"... he hits an E1 near the end of that, too. And he has vids where he reads the writings of Edgar Allen Poe. As for Voiceplay as a whole... Earl Elkins has left the group, so their newly-released stuff has either sometime guest Rachel Potter (ex: "Little Mermaid medley") or a male guest from another group in that spot. Their older stuff: You could check "Daddy Sang Bass." It'll be what you think it is. Or "Can't Help Falling in Love," which showcases all the members in turn.

this is always a treat to see people react to. because the first bass things always have people going "oh wow" and then that final note just blows their minds.

Yeeees! I have been waiting for this one! Isn't it a spectacular cover? I mean Geoff is amazing and the arrangement is oh my god! So beautifully done! I believe Geoff describes himself as a baritone that can extend lower to bass. But he has an insane range! So good! I still have a softer spot for Tim though😉. Lovely reaction! I really enjoyed it! 🌷 Thank you! Oh also if you are wondering about singing with a light in your mouth watch Rammstein - Rammlied live...😛

4:43 out of the first 3 reactions I've seen. You're the first to bring up that riff. SOOOO GOOD.

The arrangement was made by Layne (the beatboxer, on the right with the glowing nose)

Never seen such a good react video. His explanation, that he takes time too look up who does what and all those little things he notices. In most other videos I want to "tell" the streamer so much but either he figures it out or looks it up. Really nice Btw haven't watched that many react videos but from those I watched I like his the most.

All of these vocal coaches' jaws dropping to the floor is still higher than Geoff's low notes XD

I don't think there's a problem about switching up and this is where their studio songs are different from their live performances. They *do* lay tracks which is why some people find it difficult to believe they make all the sounds by themselves - but they do. @ 9:15 the last low note, see if you can hear the airy sound of the beat boxer too. :D

I haven't noticed the "bass rift" before. I have been listening to this a lot the last year. Then this month I have listened to about a dozen vocal coaches this month react to this. You are the first to point that out. Very subtle and amazing!

I could just picture his deep voice at the end of a dark hallway that would terrify me
@kevinbailey75934 жыл бұрын
What is more impressive to me is his production of a 4 1/2 octave range during the last phrase of the song, and his tone quality in the upper range. Nice

Absolutely love this cover from Voiceplay! It's probably my favorite from them. Daddy Sang Bass is another great one (which is also nostalgic for me as I grew up singing southern gospel with my family) and also their Moana medley is great. I also absolutely love their Road Trip skit, and as far as I know no one has reacted to it lol. I know you've mentioned Pentatonix in the Home Free videos....would you react to any of their videos? Also, new sub here :)

I hope you will come back to them. Their recent work is astonishing. I keep rewatching their covers of Running Up That Hill and We Don’t Talk about Bruno. Utterly gorgeous and satisfying
